  • @theconnactic This is a great track! I loved the opening a cappella bit. I kept wanting it to come back into the song. The guitar work was very good, as usual. There are two styles at work here (well, 3 if you count the opening), and I think you've done a good job combining them, which doesn't feel forced or out of place, it feels natural to the song. Great job on the track!

  • @audiblevideo Nice! Lots of interesting things going on here. Structurally, I do think it could be shortened, although if a B section was added the length would be justified. This type of music is a bit hard to critique, and I think you've done a good job on the production, so let me just encourage you to experiment with things within the style that can provide overall structural movement. Not sure if that makes sense. Anyway, nicely done as-is, looking forward to your next one!

Quite different from my last couple of entries I think, using my goto trio of Zeeon, Poison-202, and Model D. Sit back, relax, and go for a sail...

I like the chord progression, simple and effective. Melody is also good and melody variation all throughout is good.

I thought the synth sound that comes in at :25 with the melody is mixed too loud...also that same sound I think is too loud throughout the song. I would bump it down a bit.
Also, for my personal taste, it was a bit dry? Maybe more reverb or delay on the snare?

Thanks for the comments! I'm going to be including this track on my next album, which I hope to have complete in January, and I'm starting the work of remixing all the tracks now. This one will definitely get some love in that department, and I will keep your comments in mind while working on it. Thanks!

You are welcome sir! Good luck with the release!

  • @studs1966 Very professional sounding work! I think the Disco mix was the most successful IMHO. The bass line in the Deep Soul mix didn't quite fit with the rest of the track for my taste, and I loved the ideas in the Latino mix, but felt the piano lacked some of the traditional latino-piano crispness or energy. But everything in the Disco mix was spot on. Loved it!

  • @LostBoy85 Wow. Just... wow, what a fantastic song! As a dad with 2 young boys this really hit me in all the squishy parts. Musically it's great too. The guitar is nicely done, the vocals are brilliantly sung, the chorus fits like a glove. My only suggestion would be to bring back the chorus one final time, it's that good. Really really great work!

I haven't written a rap in ages but this one kinda spilled out of me when I was having a particularly frustrating night writing. Paired it with an apologetic hook. I was shocked at how quickly it all came together. A sub bass and rap lyrics made it a tough track to mix but I'm cool with how it turned out.

    Lyrics:
    (Oh I) Suck
    Just a cruch
All these thoughts in my brain
    Just a game without fame
Feeding this need out of greed
Just to show you motherfuckers me
    I'm not free, I can't see
Trapped in my mind out of time
Writing these thoughts on a page
But I hide from the rage
That I made from a cage

  • @LostBoy85 Very nice, great song that's well put together. I like the laid-back atmosphere and the ad-libs. Great melodies, nice guitar (doesn't feel canned, did you get someone to play it?). The change when the beat and the harmonies come in is lovely.

The production is really solid, and the vocal performance is excellent.

Overall the song has a great feel: it's pretty, with great melodies, but not schmaltzy - the tone is pitched just right. Great effort.

  • @audiblevideo There's some cool ideas in there but it feels more like a long free-form jam to me rather than a finished production. It's waaayyy too long for the amount of musical ideas in there, if it was pared down to 3 or 4 minutes it would sound much more focused and tight. I do like the main riff and the horns, but it all feels a bit jumbled and formless, some more structure, some changes and some sense of evolution and a journey would really lift the track and create a more satisfying end result I think.

  • @studs1966 Another bangin' tune :)

There's a lot going on in all 3 mixes, and it's all put together pretty flawlessly. Good job.

  • @shiftsynth1 It's pretty rare that I say this, but your track is too short :)

The EP keys are very nice, low-key and with a really effective simplicity. The sung parts are also lovely, best part of the song IMO. Good tune, and in and out in a minute and a half, which isn't easily done.

I sometimes revert to very, very simple and try to be as heartfelt as possible. That's what this song is. It will be on my new instrumental album, which I'm not exactly sure when i'll release. It's been done for a few weeks but I don't know what I should do, when I should do it or exactly how to market it differently this time...lol. I'll figure it out.
So in the meantime, I'll repost the message I put on soundcloud with this song. It's sincere, honest and deep down, who I am. I'm not generally one to be this mushy in public, but I guess it's that time of the year for reflection and for some reason, my emotions are very, very strong today.

The song is called Deepest of Love, and although there are no words, here is a little about what I was feeling at the time I wrote it, sometime this year and what I wrote on soundcloud about the song.

"This song makes me cry whenever I listen back to it, because I'm a deeply emotional person and I try to put that into songs, especially songs like this. To me, love is the highest form of appreciation you can give someone. It's when you feel someone is amazing just the way they are and can't help but see them in a bright shining light, even when they aren't living up to their potential right that moment, even when they are feeling incomplete and without hope. So this holiday season, I would like to spread the message that even a little appreciation for a stranger is a measure of love. It may not be the full blown love we give to those closest to us, but it's a seed that can grow and multiply. Appreciate someone for no good reason other than they are who they are, and when they ask what they can do in return, simply tell them to appreciate someone else, just a little bit more or for the first time, and to keep appreciating until it's infectious and spreads like wildfire. That is the fuel of hope. Not contributing to the chaos of the universe, but rather countering that chaos with as much kindness as you can afford without giving away all of your light. Always love yourself first and then give the rest away. But don't love yourself because you are great...love yourself because you have the capacity to care for and love others. That's what makes you truly exceptional..":

Merry Christmas all. Have started combining iOS and Logic and am really enjoying it. There's just so much to Logic but slowly, so slowly, I'm learning. Some loops from the pad put together then fleshed out on the computer. Trying for the best of both. Still very simplistic. I quite like the vocal on this one, intentionally overdriven, as is the beat. I've felt my recent stuff has been a bit, well, ordinary, so am trying to just weird things up gradually. I must apologise for not leaving a complete set of feedback last month. I try very hard not to let anyone down and so a big sorry to those I missed, will try v hard to not let that happen again. Also @crony has very kindly taken a vocal from me to work on so am looking to what he does with that in the next month. Cheers. P

  • @crouchie very weird intro, love it. Simplicity is not that bad...

  • @crouchie I've always found that mixing the weird with the melodic is the perfect cocktail for music that's interesting and lasting, the type of music that you want to come back to again and again. I like the weird sounding drone that underpins the backing, and I think there is still scope for you to push the weirdness out even more.

The vocal is great as usual, it seems to have a hint of dirt on it this time around which suits the song. Towards the end there's quite a bit of crunch in the whole mix, again this suits the song so it's cool.

    Keep pushing the envelope :)

Hey dude, it’s great that you stayed writing despite the frustration, way to push through and come up with something cool. It might just be the shitty headphones I’m listening on, but I wanted the rap a little more upfront, parts of it got a little swallowed by the music.

    Cool stuff though mate. 🎶👊🏻🎶😄

Hey thanks! Yeah def noticed that, think I could have compressed the vocals a bit more. Sat in the same frequency range as the keys so it was tough to balance. Appreciate the feedback!

  • I was hoping to have something else prepared as I'd already shared this in a separate thread, but this is pretty much all I've managed in December!

  • @MonzoPro great tune, like it a LOT !!!

My entry for the month, shoegazey and unpolished:

Love the pad build early on, does the backing chord just need to change on ‘i’m lost and I just can’t find a way’?
I really like the way the pads work on this tune, makes the overall sound feel more complete. The chorus is strong. And I like shoegazey 😉

This is really good, like a lot. There’s a click on the attack of the bass that is audible early on, might just need to be lengthened a bit? It’s really well constructed. I like that slightly baroque feel (pretentious word, sorry) that the arps give your tunes. They work beautifully here. Brilliant. Well done!

Like that a lot Dimitri. Nice to see u on Spotify. Your vocal is strong and the treated parts work really well too. Your instrumentation leaves me in awe as always. Great stuff

    Ok
So, ANOTHER 9 min piece. I'm going to edit the final down so I guess this is the first draft.

I'm not too happy with the drums. One of the Mid Eastern drums is a little too boomy in the beginning. Also, while I like some of the asynchronicity of the drums, I think another tighter part would be good.

Several of the synth lines are getting drowned out. I think I'll make a B section for the baseline (that sounds like a melody line which runs throughout) and do either a call and response or just drop the melodic baseline out.

And finally from the self critique the solo trumpet. 😳🙄😑
Gotta fix that melody line by using another sequencer. Autony either lost the settings I had or I have now changed my mind about its suitability.

That’s a long old tune!. Good mind! Wasn’t worried by the early boom but I listened on v basic headphones. It’s very nicely mixed isn’t it. There is great space between the elements and that makes it a pleasure to listen to, very easy on the ear. Love the arrival of the electro stabs at about 2.30. Yes, it needs editing but it’s a great piece. Like it a lot
