Reposting my questions fromone of the other threads (let’s stick with this one)

Two questions after playing around with it just a little bit:

    1. I loaded some pattern into Pad1. I then closed AUM. When I returned later and opened previous session, there was nothing on the Pad. I would have expected this to be saved with the state, but it doesn’t seem to be the case?
2.How do I do real time recording of a backbeat pattern, that when played back in a Pad stays in synch say with a Rozeta drum pattern also played in AUM. No matter what I do Photon seems always to start at the beat.. Somehow it should be possible to do a recording that is aligned with start of bar, but begins with a rest, without having to step record?

Im not aware state saving includes large data like wavs or midi files? If someone knows of an app that does this I will include. Otherwise saving 5 buffers which could contain up to a million midi events might be a challenge.

Each pad has a setting to start - inmediately, on the bar or beat. These relate to the host transport.

You’ve also given me an idea for the edit to allow you to shift the whole buffer. Trim just removes the silence at the start

Yes it is possible, Spacecraft AU does this with large wav files. Not sure how he managed it though. I would love to see this if possible as that's how I'd arrange parts in sequences together, rather than having to load up parts each time I load an AUM session etc.

AudioLayer does this with large multi-sampled instruments as well. Beats me how tho... B)

Just override the “fullState” method and save whatever you want in any format you want.

Understand that you can’t save the whole Midi content as state, but couldn’t you save the content as a file automatically, and the state is just a reference to the file?

It even happened to me that the plugin frooze, and when Aum reloaded it, everything was lost. Having to manually keep saving to file is a workflow killer to me!

    +1
Easy files management is mandatory for such a tool...great app anyway, very inspiring !

And you wrote, that MIDI can be exported using AirDrop.

This is misleading, as you can use the regular export extensions to open in any other compatible App!

AirDrop is a way to transfer locally between two devices over WiFi/WLAN and Bluetooth!

or the same device. I was trying to keep it simple :)

    @midiSequencer

Hi when I import midi files from Odesi the file does not show after I refresh the list, as the message states. Is this because the app list showing is when the app is in Standalone Mode?

Once I open Photon in AUM however the midi file imported is then shown in the midi list just seems a bit strange and misleading that’s all.

Looks like i might be resyncing every loop and its missing the bar/beat change.
it should really just do this to start, so will look at this.

Its important to have nice integer beats too, so you may need to set the length of recorded buffers to get them to play well in loops

My notes were input using step input - each note one beat long so I don't have any notes overhanging the best quantum.

Apart from this niggling bug this app is so good - congratulations and good luck on trapping the error

Yes its a bug with the file list when the imported file contains spaces. I've fixed it yesterday but didn't want to pull the launch as it is actually imported & available in the AU.

Ok noted its with step record. thx

@midiSequencer Good stuff thanks, For info I can record in Cubasis timeline from launching a pad in Photon, However tried the same in Beatmaker 3 to record to timeline no joy. It’s probably a BM3 problem but thought you should be aware. As I thought the AU midi record had been fixed now within BM3.

So its BM3 recording the output of an AU midi thats the issue?

@midiSequencer It appears so yes, you can hear the midi playing but not recording. Definitely a BM3 problem tried it with Rozeta same result. Probably have to record from one pad to another in BM3 to get it working.

  • This is loads of fun, I’m seeing a lot of different ways I can use this!

I’ve read through manual and maybe I’ve missed it. Is there a way to sync recording to the host clock so it starts recording on down beat of a bar, not when Photon receives a midi message? I would like to use this as a rudimentary “looper”, creating loops in time with the clock in AUM. So far my timing is not good enough to use the start “Real-time recording” on any of the available settings.

Great job, Anthony. This immediately clicked for me more so than Quantum did.

  • One thing I’m getting a lot more use out of apps like Chordbot, Odesi, Klimper etc just to create progressions then exporting to Photon. That can only be a good thing in my book.

Record and replay MIDI, basically :-)
For example to go DAW-less with just AUM.
And it seems, other stuff too.

We understand in theory what it does we just need someone to hold our hands with the right buttons etc :)

  • There is a lot that this can do, but it’s just so gratifying to record Rozeta Bassline or Cells and just export it to NS2. Thank you @midiSequencer!

@ALB Been using AB3 with Photon loaded and virtual midi out selected in the midi out slot in AB3 letting me record direct into NS2

  • Has anyone managed to “midi learn” the Photon pads to a hardware midi device yet
    in AB3 for looping purposes?

Does AB3 now state save any midi learn setup once programmed in?

In AUM the parameters are listed. ie “pad 1 stop, start.”

In AB3 CC are just numbers what am I missing ? Do parameters show up listed?

Yes, use the quantise controls in the lower right of the real time recorder panel. The default is off.

Yes, I mapped my controller to the pads in AB3--works great and AB3 does save presets and global map profiles. You need to tap on the photon icon in the midi lane to get to the correct parameters. You are looking at the controls to switch apps (which is cool but not what you are trying to do).

@midiSequencer In AUM I’m only seeing midi thru being triggered.

I’m trying to send pad 1 midi to Sunrizer but not getting any triggering?

I noticed if you select thru you either get “thru” or “ off” how do you select individual pads to send?

You have to select “Out Thru Only” and “Out individual” is now enabled. Voila!

    @Puma Many thanks sorted!

  • I’m having troubles with the files saved from the buffer to the midi files library: they appear to be empty everytime. Am i doing something wrong?

@lukesleepwalker Cheers, when I tap the Photon icon in the midi lane I get 4 sub menus which one shows parameters ie “pad 1start stop”, as not seeing them listed ?

Edit Ok found it now Cheers 👍
