it looks amazing! but please release it now and add more features later

You know, that's not such a bad idea :)

Ghost notes are particularly impressive considering these are standalone AU instances. This is really shaping up nicely.

I think it's good to warn that being able to share data between AU instances is a neat side-effect of all AUs running inside the same process. However, it's not an official feature offered by Apple, which means that they can take it away at any moment.

And that's not even unlikely to happen, because if they listen to our other big request: "please remove the memory limit of xxx Mb per AU" they may very well put all AU instances in their own process - making this feature impossible. :#

So enjoy it while it's there B)

I've considered that, there's ways around it (though icky), should Apple go nuclear on single-process AU. I'd still prefer it not to happen though.

  • so is this close to release? i can’t wait it looks perfect

No, it’s not a bad idea at all.. 😁

  • I'm ready!
Do you input notes via midi / banging on keys and / or by directly tapping them into the piano roll ?

Yep. I think I read somewhere in here, that its actually recording midi too which is aaaawwwwsum.

    Correct.

  • Looking great. Yeah I hope the recording is working well. That's how I'll be using it the most I think. Recording, editing and arranging. :)

"Arranging" is going to be a bit awkward with just this piano roll plugin, unless you're fine with long sequences. A better option for properly arranging multiple clips (not just a single sequence) is necessary, and that's going to be part of a future release.

Oh sure, although up to this point, we don't have that many options in AUM etc so even this method is good :) I can see being able to trigger different piano rolls at different points a way to arrange things. That's how I've been working up til now, eg I use Step poly arp as an arranger to trigger different sequences in order. So this can be used that way I'm hoping...

  • It’s coming on nicely @blueveek!

Yeah, I remember seeing some comment regarding this on core-audio-dev list. But, there are other ways to share data between processes. (network sockets)

@j_liljedahl How is that AUM update coming along? Really looking forward to the MIDI "lanes" that I've seen screen shots for. You have an ETA for release?

@blueveek the clips approach is the hotness. Can't wait to get my hands on your new creation!

  • @blueveek
Is the release stage next, or does it still need to go through beta testing?

Still needs some fair amount of beta testing, but I'll refrain from adding more features for now :)

It's coming along nicely! Hopefully release within a week or two.

  • Cool beans
AUM is a vital part of my set up

    This is fantastic news.
I still remember a couple years ago, wondering “Do I really need this AUM thingy?”
Now, I can’t really remember what it was like to not have AUM in the middle of everything.

Eek! I hope that would not cut off ProQ3 (showing other instances waveforms) if/when it arrives.

As me and @j_liljedahl also mentioned, there are technical workarounds available, so I wouldn’t spell doom and gloom on this at all.

If Apple decides to nuke out the foundations of how things are implemented now, that doesn’t mean the features can’t come back shortly afterwards. I’m even more optimistic than that, since we’ll likely have plenty of iOS beta time to rework our plugins. So it could be a bit of a nuisance for us, but from a user standpoint if the apps are updated in time, nothing will change in userland.

Having said that however, certain developers (such as FabFilter) might see this situation as too high of a risk in the short term, and might not be as willing as us to rework the internals of their plugins just for iOS.

Care to tease what the CC editing will look like?
(From what I can see & read this will replace most of the AUv3 'sequencers' I have on my iPad)

The look and feel isn't 100% set in stone, so I'll tease it when I'm absolutely sure it'll be what's actually shipped. Maybe in a week or so ;)

How is that CC editing tease coming along? :-)

Btw, for a later update, perhaps you´d like to be inspired by this approach to automation curves?

Still polishing! Thanks for the link, I'm definitely trying to get inspiration from Ableton, and there's a ton to unpack. A lot of this stuff looks excellent for future updates indeed :)

    A few more updates

Negative times, changing tempo in real-time

One clip playing forward, one reverse

    Scale overlays and layering

Altering melodies based on other scales and sequences

Oh my gosh. So good the idea of pre created (and easy editable) wave forms for automation. I love this! Thanks for posting and
@blueveek that would be amazing 👊🏼😎

Wow. This tool is shaping up nicely. Will love using this in AUM. @blueveek let me know if you need any testing done before release. 👊🏼™️
