It's out already was using it this morning.
There's been a few good entries this year...
Ah my update wasn’t showing up. Had to go directly to the app in the store. This new App Store is a little buggy eh?
the App Store has always had one major Bug... if i top up my itunes with a £25 gift card .. somehow there is only 79p left in it by the end of the month!!!
You are amazing! I spent the whole evening last night having a blast on my iPad, but was starting to realize how much time I was spending setting up sounds. No longer! Very, very nice addition. Thanks!
Small suggestion: the AudioBus toolbar would be less in the way of off to the rather than the top.
Audio is crashing crashing in AudioBus after 5-10 minutes. Koala either stops outputting sound, or it makes a loud buzzing. Removing and re-adding Koala fixes it. No dropouts in standalone.
[edit] it seems it only happens when Koala is in an output slot in AudioBus. As an input it’s fine.
Such an insanely fun app.
@elf_audio is AUv3 in your plans for Koala at all?
In any case: thank you! This is a truly inspirational app
I am a beginner (as ever), but am enjoying fiddling about with Koala. However, some of you fine fellows seem to be thrilled to Betsy (good old Betsy!) with it. Can you give me a sentence or two as regards how you're using or connecting or getting the most fun out it?
Pretty simple for me. Park myself on the couch. Hope the cat will deign to join me. Drag a few samples onto pads (kick, snare, hats usually to start). Enable metronome, press play, fiddle around until a groove I feel emerges and I can play it consistently. Record until I'm happy with it. Copy the pattern to another slot. Add somethin' else like a bass sample, jam over it, record, repeat. Stop when the ideas stop flowing. Now, jam out with the FX for an hour or so while not trying to grin too much so the wife doesn't think I'm watching porn or something.
I doubt I'll ever use any of these jams for anything, but it's a great way to kill an evening and to practice generating ideas and playing them reasonably in time, without obsessing over details.
I haven’t made anything constructive with it - I tend to sample shouts and giggles via the mic, and then silly them up, but now it’s had the update I’m planning to give it a proper thing.
It's interesting. I just use it for sampling stuff around the house or out in the world with my iPhone. And then I muck around with all the found sound until I get cool audio loops. Between Koala and Loopfield I get some great source material for new tunes to properly "pull together" on my iPad.
Brilliant reply, from pussy to porn. And confirmation that I need to simply follow my beatnik nose, rather than anything more technical or complicated.
Shouts + giggles = I can do that
Why do samples play 'louder' when played in reverse?!
I find it pretty weird...
Way louder. I think that’s a “new feature “. What say you @elf_audio ?
Ok, not just me then. Same. Loud and distorted.
Will wait for things to settle before trying this. Love koala and have never had issues before.
Thanks for the warnings people and respect to @elf_audio for the hard work and patience.
Yeah sorry about that, fix on it’s way on Monday along with possibly a new feature for PO fans
Thanks for the great app and rapid response! Put some IAP’s in there so we can slip you some $!
It's true. A fair few of us enjoy an imaginary affogato.
For me the main thing is that it works so great on the phone, where with other apps my eyes are to dim and my fingers too fat. So with Koala you can make real music everywhere if you have a minute.
I use it mostly standalone. When/if something works I export via Audioshare to my iPad to finish things up. I’ve sampled some synths and stuff using Audiobus, but on the phone I removed the other apps I had and otherwise never used.
Just sampling and resampling stuff in the environment is fun and about as immediate as using the camera, so it gets picked up a lot.
I have a pocket operator too which kind of fills that niche, but that is now full with a mostly complete song I don’t have the energy to finish. The Koala is limitless though.
That's great insight. I have loads of things on the phone I essentially never use, and instead -when waiting eternally outside the changing rooms etc - end up playing rubbish games....Koala (along with the potential for found sound of course) sounds as though it's the solution. Thanks for the note/encouragement.
Koala and Loopfield are the magic two for the "waiting for the wife" scenario. Pretty much the only two I use these days on iPhone besides AudioShare. Both are so well designed for the small screen!
Update out. Reverse sample volume fixed. Thanks @elf_audio!
I put Loopfield in the hardly-used bucket some time ago. Thanks for the inspiration, these two definitely play well together in AUM. Damn.
Little jam in the vague style of “On the Run”. Sampled loop from Sugar Bytes Factory.
BTW, loving the landscape mode, especially because it allows use of all effects simultaneously. Thanks @elf_audio !
(If you ever wanted to make another app, you know... in your free time 😄, an AUv3 version of just the effects section only to process audio would be a must-buy for me. Some minor additional features like controlling “wet level” on the X-axis of each pad perhaps... )
Love the effects! A strong point of an already monster app. Thanks! 😊
