@stormbeats how do you manage velocity in Koala, that really misses me as everything is fixed. Does it work via midi? But then some mobility is missing.
@Janosax not to sure best to ask dev @elf_audio /velocity. I tend to make quite punchy beats so never really done the velocity thing even on my hardware samplers.
Already asked two times, even on app release...
Do you think it could be doable to add an option for pads velocity playing (Y axis) @elf_audio?
Am I the only one guy wishing for this?
@stormbeats do you use Mani consulting YT plugin to do your stuff with Koala? The ability to play with videos is very cool too, even an iOS video capture imported in Koala can work!!
@Janosax i do sometimes in bm3 but I like to remember what names of tracks Ive used. I have a big catalogue. It is useful though. Very. When I do use with Koala as follows
AUM/YT/ into Koala
@stormbeats Are iOS video capture still mono in iOS 13? Stereo?
@Janosax don’t be lazy
The only way I’ve found to do velocity is to copy the same sample to a few pads and change the volume on each one and go through them like you would round robin style when playing
Great tip thanks
Sure I’m not, thanks!
@Janosax that’s what Iam talking about ..good fella that reminds me of oldschool cinema trailers ‘ in full colour & panaramic stereo sound”
@elf_audio
Koala has a major feature on the Japanese App Store. Congratulations!
Is there a way to export the entire project including all 64 samples, as a SINGLE package?
Export/Share Koala Song, also you can actually use Files app to just copy the song folder (named after the song) and zip that.
I got a reply from the developer and it seems it is not possible.
Are you saying it is possible to save the entire project including samples and sample edits?
It's possible to share songs between different devices using koala, as @JudasZimmerman said, you can either copy the folder for the song inside your koala folder, or you can choose "export koala song" which generates a self-contained file of the whole project.
A koala song file (i.e. song.koala file) is just a zip file of the song's folder.
Yes sorry, the email confirming export is possible came after I posted that.
Yes; I like to make stuff on the Koalaphone and do the finishing on the ipad, and then I just copy the project directory via the iCloud drive from the one to the other and it gets transferred perfectly.
Same here except I use a Samsung phone which complicates it a little.
I was figuring it out yesterday so not sure what happened but does it matter where the .koala file is? I was messing around with Files trying to put it in a spot where it would be seen by the Koala app but after a while I tapped on the file and it seemed to import automatically.
Ah it shouldn’t matter where the koala file is, if you open it in Koala it will unzip and import into the song folder. It is a bit confusing where files end up on android phones, unfortunately I don’t really use android on a daily basis being a diehard Apple fanboy so not sure where people expect it to save and load from etc. All suggestions welcome for android (albeit on private thread or email.)
is it possible on iphone to open samples from the files folder into koala or is it audio share exclusive? i know on my ipad i can’t open files side by side koala but my iphone isn’t allowing that. sorry if the answers above there’sa lot of pages
@reasOne the import function defaults to AudioShare if you have it, so if audioshare is on your iPhone koala wont let you use files. (On iPad as you say you can do side by side to mitigate this). In an upcoming version I will make it so you can force it to use files even if you have audioshare installed but for now the only way to load from files on an iPhone with audioshare installed is to open files and share it to koala.
copy that! thanks for the info man
Great update! I’ve been really excited for the custom background images
Awesome!
After the update, anyone else missing sequences when you load your songs? Most songs I load no longer have any sequences
Nice with the update but the Mac version still doesn't record samples properly when using a multi-input audio interface...
It's like the sample is recorded at 'half/quarter speed' where each incoming sample is duplicated by the number of inputs or something similar. Very strange behavior and just about the only app I have on my Mac that is unable to properly record audio. Oh well, it's still 'free' so I won't complain too much or too loudly
Amazing update. Congrats to dev. Love it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hey All! There does seem to be a little problem crashing on startup on some phones, but I just fixed that, posting an update with apple now, so should be out within 24 hours if you're having issues. (also there's a bug if you map the delete button it jams the midi, whoopsie!)
@bwrobinett Really sorry to hear that - please get in touch here: https://www.elf-audio.com/contact.php - maybe I can work out what's going on with your losing sequences.
@Samu - I regularly use koala on the mac with a motu ultralite which has tons of inputs, it seems to work ok. Which device do you have? What samplerate are you running? Just the default?
@elf_audio Not sure what was going on, but they’re back now after I reopened. So yay!

I have the Steinberg UR-242 running at 44.1k.
This mainly because IDAM with the iPad Air 2 /macOS has issues when using 48K output. I've set the sample rate set in Audio & Midi Setup.
I could try changing to 48K and see if Koala responds differently as it says it's using 48K?
Just tested, changing the sample-rate does not help, so it seems like Koala doesn't check the current setting just 'assumes' things?!
Also I can not seem to select which of the inputs to use?
The audio that gets recorded is from inputs 1&2 but at half-speed, so it always records 'stereo' or something?!
If I use the iRigMic HD(USB) or Røde SmartLav+ (3.5mm jack) recording in Koala works fine...
I'm on macOS Catalina 10.15.6, 3Ghz 2018 MacMini.
This 'bugg' puzzles me since none of the other apps I have show any kind of recording related issues.
(Renoise, Logic Pro X, Ableton Live Lite, TwistedWave, Audacity, MPC Beats, QuickTIme Player etc.).
I mainly use Koala on my iPhone 8 so it's not a biggie, just an observation...
Cheers!
