Ps. Midi mapping works perfectly on android, I got my mpc500 controlling koala through midi. What a cool combo...thank you.

@skulptur_sound are you able to solo or mute the koala pads with your mpc500?

Ok, I just recorded My midi performance into the mpc500 sequencer.. beat on track A1 and sample chops on track A2 and can confirm track mute and track solo do work! Bad a$$

  • @elf_audio I’m getting a persistent crash whenever I loop a particular sample that was captured internally - is there a way to show you this that you’d prefer?

    Cheers,

    Chris

  • Hi Krupa - sorry about that - if you could send me a message at https://www.elf-audio.com/contact.php and we can work out how you can send me the koala song in question, hopefully I should be able to crack it today or tomorrow and upload a fix - thanks for reporting!

  • Sweet, will do 👍

@elf_audio really loving all the recent updates. Really jazzed about the Loop+Hold feature in the Sample view. So cool to be able to record it all back into itself in a little live jam setting.

    Curious about a couple enhancements:
. Fade In/Out functionality on the samples
    . Time Stretching
    . Batch Import of slices
. Any chance for an AU version just to future proof it since IAA is fading away

Keep up the great work 👊🏼™️ Koala is almost a perfect looper shhhh...😉

Here’s a little jam from this evening:

That was cool; I enjoyed watching how you work with Koala. It shows how the simplicity of the presentation accentuates immersion in the sound rather than in the fiddling with knobs, etc. What do you use for video effects? Looks great with the background you used!

@skulptur_sound ok good to know “track” mutes/solos work. Do “pad” mutes/solos work? Thanks in advance.

@elf_audio Iam still getting a sluggish slow response in Load screen. I deleted a lot of Songs to see if this would improve. Now have approx 10 songs. The List options A-Z etc drop down menu is much slower response in the lastest update. Iphone is ok but ipad much slower.Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks. In the next video I’ll show how i sampled my sounds from GrooveBox in the split view mode to get my parts and then just “performed” them via the Loop+Hold function.

Wish there was a Mute/Solo view in Kola so i could play my loops and clips live with a little more control...but hey, it’s fun to use it at a sort of Lite Looper for music making.

Do you have an mpc500?. I’ve had mine since 07 and have never seen pad mute...maybe I have missed something.. track mute works like pad mute where you hit a pad to mute the track, but wasn’t ever aware there was an actual pad mute.

  • @skulptur_sound i have an mpc2000 since 1997. Your right though I forgot its “track” mute. I think my mpc studio black & mpc element has pad mute. Will check .

🙏🏾🛸it’s dope using koala Midi’d to the mpc though, it’s like my 500’s lil buddy.. 😅😌😂

When saving it didnt used to close the app. Also when starting the app it doesnt carry on where you left off. It loads the previous starting state of the app. You then have to load the last song you were working on. And sometimes if you do that too quickly it loads the previous presaved version of the song, so i have to be careful not so save it until i have checked its the most upto date version of the song.
Didnt used to be like this. I use it quite a lot so ive noticed it so maybe something has changed in the settings.

I was seeing these issues myself too. I had Koala on my Galaxy S9+ and it would take me several tries to get it to start up successfully, it would just keep crashing on startup. I had almost no storage space left and it sometimes worked if I cleaned up storage so I just figured it was that. I recently upgraded to a S20+ with tons of storage and found it was still happening (even worse actually, and also crashing on save, and not loading the latest state of the last project, even if I saved. I was about to post about it and then found an upgrade in play store. Installed the latest version 1.37895 and now it seems like it's all cleared up.

  • Yeah, new version for Android clears up a lot of the problems, sorry for the silly version number, I mistyped it. I would have got it out sooner, but I was too busy writing profuse apologies to actually fix the bug.

I'm finally working on the next stage of koala - timestretch, managed to get something running yesterday, very excited!

  • update has fixed my issues, thanks. looking forward to the timestretch feature, a nice bonus.

    Cool!

  • Just been getting back into Koala with midi mapping, lots of fun. Thanks @Ailerom for Nanny’s Shed sample pack and @echoopera love your video - only problem is I’ve got your tune stuck in my head as I write this, think I’m going to be sorely disappointed when I go back to my own effort.... just waiting for my house to empty before I attack it with my microphone and 16 fx knobs.

You got nothing to apologize for- Koala is so good I'd sit there and click the app however many times I need to lol.

I have one question (or maybe feature request) for something I'm trying to figure out if I can do- Is it possible to play back a sequence while recording to another (but only capture what you're actually hitting during the record).

I'm trying to have a workflow where I record to separate patterns (acting as tracks), and combine them however I need to for the arrangement. But a lot of times (esp if not using quantize) I want to hear the drums or other parts of a sequence to feel where I need the chops/notes of the new sequence to fall, without actually having those drums or whatever recorded/in the new sequence. Does that makes sense?

One workaround is to copy the sequence, then delete the parts you don't want. You can then copy this one as the starting point for further sequences if appropriate.

  • How do you do the "delete the part you don't want" part? If you can edit sequences then that would be exactly what I want, I just didn't see a way to do anything besides record/undo.

Long press the clear button in the sequencer view. The pads will start to flash. Keep the clear button held down and tap the pad with the sample you want to clear from the pattern.

YO thank you both, that is exactly what I needed!

  • 49 Pages of comments ahjeez.

Question for @elf_audio or anyone else - Is there any way to import multiple samples at once into Koala? Or am I stuck doing each pad one-at-a-time? Thanks in advance.

  • @boberto I think if you're on the iPad and you use the files app in slideover mode, you can drag multiple samples with multiple fingers, but not sure about that - I did notice in audioshare you can select multiple audio files .

I've been thinking of some solutions around getting files into koala a bit easier, hopefully something will come soon.
