Sorry for sounding like a broken record, but anyone getting audio out of this into Cubasis 3 yet?

Pretty please @elf_audio , make an instrument version like the fx one that syncs to hosts with only the first sample page. Except BM3 all built-in daw samplers are terrible, so I bet at least two or maybe more people would buy it.

Create a midi track in CB3. Open Koala as an IAA instrument. Then, create an audio track and under “Routing” set its input as Koala Sampler. You can then record your Koala creations into Cubasis on the audio track.

Yeah, but I want to bypass Koalas internal sequencer and just play it from the sample page. Just tried what you said but I still get an empty section with a wheel spinning and no audio.

Weird. Worked for me first try. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how do to it the way your describing. Still new to the the iOS ecosystem.

How did you set Koala up in Cubasis?

The way I mentioned it previously in this thread:

“ Create a midi track in CB3. Open Koala as an IAA instrument. Then, create an audio track and under “Routing” set its input as Koala Sampler. You can then record your Koala creations into Cubasis on the audio track.”

This works, but only by using Koalas sequencer. I don’t get why I can’t just grab the sounds while playing live from a midi controller as any other instrument (with midi thru enabled since Koala doesn’t send midi out).

Are you sure that you have set it up this way? Please post a video...that way someone can see if perhaps there is some difference between what you are doing and what they are doing.

I’ve tried all variations, set up like an audio track or midi track. Here’s all three setups in one video: https://filebin.net/f4du7cgey8nfg0vv

Please post the video to YouTube or Vimeo and post a link to allow watching without needing to download....this will also increase likelihood of a dev watching it.

You can just click the filename and watch it in safari...

Found the solution via @Samu and a bit of chance. When I use slide over Koala works as expected on an audio track. A bit weird, but I’m not complaining. Except drag n drop from the Cubasis mediabay would be killer, but it’s an easy workaround.

Have you checked to see if you have the Background Audio setting turned on in Koala? If it is turned off, that would explain why it works in slide over mode but not otherwise. If it is off and Cubasis is the frontmost app, that might result in Koala not sending audio back.

    moved to another thread<

  • For those that use LK, this update for the keyboard layout will be very handy

  • Great update, I can use koala like a clip launcher for audio loops now with that update

I'm having trouble getting Koala to receive MIDI data via AB3 -- anyone else have the same issue?

A different app receives MIDI fine in the same AB3 slot and Koala receives MIDI as a stand alone app, but in AB3 there's no connection. Previously was working (last time I was heavily using the app, a few weeks ago now).

did this change with one of the recent Koala updates?

i just tried and wasnt able to get Koala to see midi being sent from Audiobus 3 (but it sees it from AUM).

    @Michael @elf_audio ?

    @Michael @elf_audio ?

It must have happened in the last few updates -- I'd been working pretty intensely with Koala in AB3 sending MIDI from a drum machine through Mozaic. Was working last time I opened the session. Hopefully get resolved soon as AB3 hosting is the only solid way I've found to synch Koala with hardware (and it's also really nice to switch apps via MIDI controller).

  • Just wanted to report an issue here. Recently the app freezes when I hit the edit button to edit a sample. I’m on an iPad Pro 11” 2020.

  • Hi @sabisaltiel - I'm trying to track this bug down right now - if you can possibly send me the affected song, that would be awesome - if you could get in touch at https://www.elf-audio.com/contact.php that would be awesome.

Also, sorry I did break the AB3 midi stuff, just fixed it - hopefully if I can fix the edit button thing I should be able to upload a fix tonight.

  • Thanks @sabisaltiel - a fix is submitted with apple for the edit button thing (it's from if you open a pre-samurai project with the latest version), and also now AudioBus midi works again.

  • I’ve got so many instruments set up right now in my flat that I’m going to sample once I get back koala control in my rig!

Ah great! That was really fast! Glad I could help. Thank you :)

  • @elf_audio : did you see the report I sent about pads losing audio you just recorded if using midi to start recording to a different pad immediately after the first one finishes?

  • Koala doesn’t seem to want to sample from my Analog Heat Mk1, which I'm using as an interface and is connected with a simple usb B to C cable. Koala audio out to the Heat works just fine. Other apps (like Audioshare) are able to sample from the Heat with the same setup. I’m not in Overbridge mode. Anyone know what might be happening here?

  • Koala is still missing proper input selection when using external multi-channel USB audio-interface.
Interim solution is to load Kola as an IAA effect into a slot on an AUM track and select the needed input.

  • Hello! I'm trying to use Koala Sampler on my M1 MacBook Air but the app doesn't seem to be accessing to the internal microphone. It never asked for permission and it doesn't appear on the Microphone section in System Preferences. Any ideas? Greetings from Montevideo, Uruguay.

  • What are your favorite apps to sequence Koala from, launching its clips to use as samples in a song?
I Have managed to do it with a Keystep pro, but I don't always wanna pull out the keyboard. Do you have some tips for me? Like a Midi sequencer that can run beside other apps, in audiobus?

@elf_audio I don't know if it's already possible, but I would like to give the recorded samples a name. So I can see from from what I sampled it.

  • Another vote for being able to name samples, it would really help when exporting

+1 also some way to see the name of files in the project. After I chop up a sample it's good to note which one I used. If I haven't worked on a project in a while, I forget. So many samples in my library.
