Woah. This is friggin cool. Very excited to try it out.
Strum in the keyboard ? Do tell
Seems that strum came and went. @FordTimeLord did that happen to you too? I updated Koala based on the thread to get the latest Easter egg and now strum is gone. I swear it was there. 🙂
What in the HELL is going on lol
@ecamburn strum will come back but needs some refining!
It looked sweet. The new tool is awesome @elf_audio. Thanks!
@elf_audio This Easter egg has finally made Koala come alive for me as it’s so easy to extract drums and have a great beat going in no time. I would personally like to see some more options to make pasting the sequence of one pad onto another much easier, I really couldn’t get that to work for me at all. And it would be cool to replace the sound of a pad without deleting the sequence. I dunno, I’m probably behind the curve a bit, but for example, Gr-16 does that sort of thing well. Anyways, awesome awesome stuff. Been having fun with it literally all day.
Also, as I always suggest with apps such as these, would be divine to have an erase button where you hold it down and notes already in the sequence get deleted, but any notes/pads played live will get recorded while it’s held down and record is on. See: Drambo “clr” function
Just my two cents, take from it what you will and thank you thank you!
You can.
Koala sequences are based upon pad location rather than pad contents so you can swap pads (literally drag one pad to another and select "Swap") and it will replace the original sound in a sequence with your preferred option.
Ok ok. Next time I do an Easter egg (June?) I will make the puzzle different for everyone so it will be a bit more difficult to share notes! There will also be a bounty for the first person to solve…
Korg's iDS-10 did it in a very creative way (I have still not solved all of them!). It's like hidden things to do with the app.
In Koala it could be like load a sample onto pad X, reverse it and put tone to max left and tweak 4-5 effects at the same time.
...or pixel-paint 'Koala' using the piano-roll starting at C2 as the base-line.
ie. when the user has done a chain of UI interactions the 'goodies' get unlocked
Nice! Good food for thought…
.....if you must. Wasn’t exactly an enjoyable experience searching for this thing, meanwhile everyone is talking about how awesome it is and you feel stupid and can’t figure it out, but hey what do I know, I’m just a dude trying to make music. But yeah, more Easter eggs that are super difficult to solve, sure. Hide the best features of the app behind a puzzle solving wall that makes sense. If you’re not a puzzle person, tough shit use something else.
These goodies were things like: a few more synth presets and being able to change the colors of stuff, not full blown awesome features that you couldn’t access without solving the puzzle.

Ha ha please don’t make it that hard, it was difficult enough for some of us (me) even with instructions !
I think whilst some people might enjoy that type of puzzle I also think that’s possibly a way to quickly annoy and frustrate some of the loyal fan base…
Let’s not forget people buy music making apps to attempt to make music not play some sort of Rubiks cube.
Yeah, no thanks. The one thing i have in short supply is time.
It seems reasonable to hide experimental features away to me. It’s not like we’re being asked to solve a rubik’s cube every time we trim a sample.
I agree. “Experimental” or not. The fact is it works and is in there. I would think the more people using the feature the more useful feedback to be gained and yeah it’s totally fine and appreciated to have the disclaimer “this isn’t quite done yet but it works well enough”. But generally speaking, Easter eggs tend to be fun things that are fairly inconsequential, like new gui colors or a fun little game or something. This is like a game changing feature. What’s next? “Oh you haven’t unlocked the mixer page feature where you have 4 insert fx slots per pad? Well happy hunting bro!”
No.
Good point. Absolutely would have paid money for this feature
A dev created a fun, very powerful feature. They had the option of ramping up support by making it an IAP ("It doesn't work on my throat music records, FFS! WTAF, Koala, I hate you and your filthy prejudice!") so didn't wish to do that.
The remaining choices were:
Having chosen the only option that actually means we get the functionality, he now cops sh*t for how he did it? LOL who would be a dev???
...
I mean...
Yeah cut him some slack folks. It was done in the spirit of fun. I don’t get the sense that the dev is planning to roll out all updates like this.
I don't really understand English so could you please speak in Japanese?
As said above it wasn’t the intial “Easter egg” but the idea that future ones maybe put behind some sort of Rubik’s cube.
No one is giving the Dev grief just honest feedback on how they feel about his idea.
As others have said we all think a lot of the App and are happy to financially support future additional functionality through IAP if that’s an option as has been demonstrated on other updates.
Wow, there was no indication that you had to dig for features in the future was there!? This is just a fun way of the dev giving us a taste of something that may or may not be fully developed at a later date!?
It was a bit like an escape room, or a treasure hunt! I spent a good amount of time ( maybe even like 5 or 6 minutes in total) looking at the koala Reddit and Facebook and on here. Was fun! I mean it’s 24 hours later and now everyone knows about it… not worth whining about!
