  • Hmm, usually when Cubasis goes on sale it's a sign of an update about to be released...
I do wonder if it's the case this time around too? :)

    Hi all,

While we often combine sales promos with new updates, this is not always the case.

Here it is our regular Spring Sale, offering you 50% off on Cubasis and all in-app purchases likewise for the first time.

Next update is in the making though...

    Best,
    Lars

I literally spent about 30 hours in cubasis this weekend. i barely slept. Every single go round had lost connections with in app audio in both aum and ab3. It wasnt like a crash (that happened with some synth auv3 usual suspects, though). the sound and connection just went away. all the icons were there as if it were business as usual.

in the end i lost my entire project trying to save a snapshot. A wonder i didnt throw my ipad pro 12.7 skipping down the street.

I’ve been using cubasis extensively to import complete midi songs from popular artists (the import is untouchable). I am practicing production by rebuilding the songs. Anymore than 3 synths creates cpu meltdown.

I spent the rest of the wee hours of the morning back in ableton—fried, frustrated and without a damn thing to show for any of it.

Editing the midi automation is ridiclously tedious even with my giant ipad and apple pencil.

  • @LeonLeroy
which plugins (synths and fx) were you using? I never experienced a dropout of audio. Most of the time the AU plugs are making trouble and not the DAW (if you only were using Cubasis instruments, or speaking NS2 only using slate and Obsidian). Anyways I would love to hear which plugins you were using... hope your nerves are better by now.

    Hi LeonLeroy,

    Thanks for your message!

Depending on the device in use, and type of additional instruments and/or effects apps loaded you might experience heavy CPU use or other problems, that can be fully unrelated to Cubasis.

“And it’s Nanostudio 2 out in front by two lengths .. .. Here comes Cubasis up with an update up from behind.. and rounding the turn.. it’s Cubasis with a possible update ... closing the gap.. It’s Nanostudio leading by a nose .. Cubasis now picking up steam for the finish.. It’s nano studio and Cubasis head to head for the finish at the time of update! > @JohnnyGoodyear said:

@JohnnyGoodyear, I have already written the most superlative review I could come up with a few months ago. Maybe another under a nom de plume?

Edit: I took your advice and just updated my review, Thanks for the gentle tap!

I'm with you here, editing automation in Cubasis is as tedious as tedium gets! What Cubasis automation really needs is control point based edit curves for automation. Nothing fancy like the smooth curves of FL Studio (and Ableton 10.1) but simple linear lines with breakpoints (similar to Ableton pre 10.1). It saves a ton of memory too as the engine is able to interpolate the 'tween' event values between breakpoints (this saves even more memory in relative terms with smooth bezier style curves, as the user is often put in control of whether the 'tween' points have corse or fine interpolation calculation requirements).

Pity the automation editing workflow is so painful as Cubasis has by far the most feature complete AUv3/MIDI capabilities of any iOS host.

  • @LFS ... just updated that review! (Didn't realize I could till I looked). Thanks again to you and the team, Lars. I keep learning new stuff on Cubasis.... like I finally learned how to globally copy tracks. Hit select, tap all the tracks and do copy and paste. I know this is basic, but this kind of discovery is intuitively (when I pay attention) built in and Cubasis seems to be able to fulfill pretty much all my ( musical) needs. Also finding the effects more and more useful.
Now.... as to that deal with Native Instruments for their acoustic library....

What generation IPad Pro if you don’t mind? I think I’m ready to upgrade from my Air2, which is running Cubasis great with no issues, but I’ve heard mixed reviews with the pro’s audio production wise. I want the 2nd generation or what ever the latest one is that still has the headphone jack. Thanks.

2nd Gen Pro is great, and there are some great reconditioned bargains to be had. With regards to Cubasis directly, the 12.9" makes a huge difference from a UX perspective over an Air 2 but the smaller models will feel significantly faster so that's a consideration too.

I’m actually more trilled over a possible ”Cubasis 3" release than that Gadget 2 thing. Cubasis is always the DAW I’ll go back to because its simplicity over the others..

One of the great things about Cubasis is that it has been constantly updated since release and continues to be developed and improved - thanks Lars and the team! I really hope that a bus/group system will be implemented, it seems to be the major things that is currently missing.

At this point getting a sense for what is possible I am hoping that AU fx reordering happens and that and better waveform/track display options happen. Things should be far more visible without having to zoom so far in.

I do predict NS2 will win the race for me this year.

Sorry to hear that brother. That's the iPad tango and while it can generally be a positive experience, sometimes the apps just don't want to dance together.

Cubasis needs a MIDI update, is that likely to come soon? @LFS

  • I just got Cubasis for $25!!! So happy about this, as I’ve been thinking of getting this for weeks now.

Correction, I just got Cubasis plus all IAP’s for $46!!! 😀😀😀

  • Congratulations @Zjenji. Lots of rewarding fun and creativity to come!

  • @AudioGus : So do I but I’m just trying to prod the dark horse ..

  • @LFS : Lars, first of all , thanks for your great work. The last update w the useful arts was practical and amazing. Still we know there’s a “ceiling” w in that you guys don’t want it to cannibalize Cubase . But still..
If Cubasis developed a true “Pro” all stops out version of Cubasis and charged say, $199.00 for it (remember dear readers, that’s for an all stops out version) I think people would but it. I know I would if it were top shelf. Just sayin’...
