Get a room, you two... :)

  • Been looking for a 2nd DAW when I'm not sampling because BM3 crashes are too annoying if I'm not utilizing the sampler.

Bought the sale. If Cubasis LE wasn't such a crap demo I would have bought it a long time ago. Cubasis is now my 2nd DAW.

Deleted Stagelight because Cubasis is much smoother to work with.

Nanostudio on the side because no audio tracks, but if audio tracks and freezing are up to snuff I see it taking over from Cubasis. I like it very much despite missing features.

Stagelight at 960 ppq when recording off the grid as opposed to 48ppq in Cubasis. That’s a dealbreaker for me right there .

  • The sp1200 was 24ppq. I can work with 48.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Haha, @ecou an improvement upon "Waddayawanna do tonight, Marty?" "I don't know Ang, waddayouwanna do?" Paddy Chayevsky at his best. I see us more that way, frankly.

    ppq?

    Pulses per Quarter-Note

In other words the resolution of unquantised data.

I have to say I like your version better. It makes me look a bit less dumb. Lol

  • Every day my music making life is easier and more fun with Cubasis. And I keep discovering new ways of using it.

  • There's no doubt that Cubasis is a little dumbed down compared to many of its competition (created by responsive independent developers), but there's a really fundamental reason for having Cubasis in your toolset, it's the baseline for any developer creating AUv3's.

Plus the three apps in the Waves package (currently $10 for all three) are essentials. The L1 limiter and Q10 surgical EQ are goto's for many pro producers and have been for a very long time. Sure FabFilter Pro Q has it licked from UX perspective but Q10 sounds just as transparent (if only it displayed the waveform). And Waves Audio Track (their Channel Strip) weighs up well against Auria Pro's options.

I think with Cubasis you have to weigh it up by the sum of its parts.

I'm sure the Steinberg team will bring in long asked for features in the future, and hopefully, they'll stick to their current practice of not charging for those updates.

    Ahhh. Thank you. ;)

  • It also still runs well enough on my old iPad 3 (assuming I properly freeze the tracks).

Totally agree. IMO it’s not dumbed down, it’s built for results. My Auria experience has been that it was too feature laden for me to focus on my content. I was excited by Audio Evolution and bought all the IAPs but I could not dial in the same level of quality asCubasis, mainly because Cube has so many great presets to tweak. Similar opinions of MultiTrack DAW, Beatmaker 3, Stagelight, n-Track, and of Course Nanostudio2 has no audio yet so I can’t compare fairly. Hopefully they new update will have an iPhone version. I wonder what the developer from Newton Music Studio has been contributing to the update???

  • are the waves plugins worth it? anyone use them?

  • @jonmoore : Can you tell me how Cubasis auv3 is superiorto NS2? I thought NS2 had this superior built in file system for it .

I'm interested too, as they mostly double the plugins that are already included.
No one seems to have done a sound comparison yet.
Are they any better? If so, what's the sonic difference?

You can freeze in Cubasis (free up CPU)

I wasn't suggesting which app was superior, but developers will usually have a baseline app they develop against. I was suggesting that Cubasis is that app. I own all of the major hosts, Cubasis, BM3, NS2, AUM, apeMatrix and ModStep and I've found that the majority of AUv3's that fail in any of the non-Steinberg apps work in Cubasis.

As it happens I think that NS2 has the best MIDI workflow but on balance I rely on Cubasis as I find it more rounded. I'm not telling others what to use, but simply posting in a Cubasis thread why I turn to Cubasis as my iOS DAW of choice.

It's probably worth reitering here, that I don't often use my iOS devices for DAW duties as I use my iOS devices as sound modules - I have 5 permanently streaming audio into my desktop DAW Ableton Live. As you can see, I'm no Steinberg groupie, I just happen to find it the most rounded and reliable of the options available to me on iOS.

Yes they are. L1 has legendary status as a limiter that's used, over-used and abused. It's awesome when used to simulate hitting tape hard with a signal. When over-used, like any limiter it will destroy the fidelity of the source material. For getting that extra 2-3dB of RMS it's ace.

Q10 has a reputation for being incredibly transparent and is just as good as Fabfiler Pro Q in this regard. It obviously doesn't compete with Pro Q from a UX perspective.

Audio Track is a Channel Strip much like many others but it has a Q10 based parametric EQ with oversampling, and an excellent compressor and gate. I prefer the Waves compressor and Gate to the ones included on the stock Cubasis channel strip.

For those looking for audio demo's, Doug covered them in a lot of detail (20 plus minutes per plugin) on his Sound Test Room YT channel when they were first introduced to Cubasis.

I personally purchased the bundle for L1 alone, so Q10 and the channel strip were a bonus but the channel strip has turned out to be the most used of the bundle over time. As channel strips go, it's really easy to dial in the sound I'm looking for and it does it's job efficiently and transparently (I have other plugins for providing 'colour').

I literally spent about 30 hours in cubasis this weekend. i barely slept. Every single go round had lost connections with in app audio in both aum and ab3. It wasnt like a crash (that happened with some synth auv3 usual suspects, though). the sound and connection just went away. all the icons were there as if it were business as usual.

in the end i lost my entire project trying to save a snapshot. A wonder i didnt throw my ipad pro 12.7 skipping down the street.

I’ve been using cubasis extensively to import complete midi songs from popular artists (the import is untouchable). I am practicing production by rebuilding the songs. Anymore than 3 synths creates cpu meltdown.

I spent the rest of the wee hours of the morning back in ableton—fried, frustrated and without a damn thing to show for any of it.

Editing the midi automation is ridiclously tedious even with my giant ipad and apple pencil.

What generation IPad Pro if you don’t mind? I think I’m ready to upgrade from my Air2, which is running Cubasis great with no issues, but I’ve heard mixed reviews with the pro’s audio production wise. I want the 2nd generation or what ever the latest one is that still has the headphone jack. Thanks.

First gen. I absolutely love it.

I ended up restoring my iPad back to its roots. Shit was getting all kinds of stuck and weird. Apps weren’t closing all the way, Cubasis, AUM, and Audiobus all were having trouble launching. I had about 40 gigs free of 120. Bm3 was damn near 13 gigs.

i just tore it all down and rebuilt it. I did lose some painstakingly crafted pads in bm3. Spent the rest of the day trying to find them in recovery software.

Since the IOS update, apps are still failing to launch or release the last app that was inside of it.

Cubasis is the best IOS daw. Don’t get me wrong. The combination with bm3, aum, and ab3 is as good as it is ever going to get.

*i was using Animoog, model 15, bm3, Zeeon, iSEM, synthmaster, and the effects were klevgrand Korvpressor, Dubstation, the fred Anton corvest apps maxima and chorus...as well as perforator and kosmonaut. And gadget.

    Not necessarily all at once.

  • thanks jonmoore.

Oh ok, thanks, I’m probably going to go for the 2nd gen with at least 250 gigs , if not 500, my Air2 is 128 and I have about 4 gigs free 😂. I’m guessing I’ll be able to work with that one for a long need before I feel like I “need” another one.

I like NS2 but the fact that I can’t use a sustain pedal is an issue for me, I love pianos and electric pianos and a sustain pedal is a must for me, especially when I’m using the Neo Souls Studio Keys. I also play guitar and bass so no audio tracks is kinda an issue. Otherwise I feel like NS2 is smooth and fast, but Cubasis gets the job done for me most of the time.

  • @Strizbiz : Hard to imagine the sustain p issue won’t be addressed in the next update
