Huh - pretty different - one is a synth, the other a DAW with a very flexible synth and many other useful bells and whistles. I like Factory a lot, but you're sure to get more use out of NS2.

  • no news...?!
the update is not here (our store...)

Experiment for the adventurous Factory lover... if you really want to feel and merge with the bizarre beauty that is this synth, and would like to preserve your eardrums for at least a few more days... Plug the output into a wearable sub/speaker (like Sub Pac 2, etc). I don’t have one yet, so i use a Bluetooth speaker pointed toward my belly. On rhythmic patches, it feels like giving birth to that creature in Alien. (erm, in a good way! 😄)

    Does it support MPE? Thanks.

Edit: ah, it's free to download so I can check myself lol. Forget my question.

    Whoot! It’s back!

  • I am glad I wasn't as dumb as I thought when they updated this with tempo control! I do admit a lot of user error but man I was trippin on the arps and tempos and sync but all is well now. Cheers!

  • So ... flash in the pan or are you all busy working with Factory? Wondering if now that the shine has worn off how you all find it ... indispensable or something else?

    At least for me, indispensable.

Something unique and different and so inspiring

Definitely not a flash in the pan, one of my most used synths. I don’t make my own patches from scratch but it’s a nice tweaker’s synth that sounds very classy.

Between Factory and Aparillo, my synth needs are pretty much satisfied. Models D & 15 are the only other synths that get a look-in.

Edit: That’s a lie. I also use Quanta a fair amount.

Ha! No, still having bizarre fun exploring the depths of Factory. I love Sugar Bytes’ MO of “everything and the kitchen sink”. They never seem to exclude something because it might make an unpleasant noise or because it doesn’t sound like some classic synth. They say “here’s a bunch of possibilities, knock yourself out!” Factory is helping ease my withdrawal from Eurorack. Plus it is polyphonic, cheap, and relatively easy to use. It is such stress relief to make strange alien animal sounds with it. Factory (along with WaveMapper) is my primal scream therapy, but easier on the vocal cords. 😝 Might eventually even make some music with it. For now, just playing.

Every track! Synthmaster One, Factory, Aparillo, DRC. Spread out the love and the memory ceiling.

Quite possibly the best endorsement I've read here.

  • OK, did the big download. Played through about 15 presets and pressed 'BUY' button. Holy crap what an inspiring instrument. I was holding off because I didn't want to buy anything back when it came out, in fact, didn't want to buy today but ... when an instrument gets you that hyped up that quick, it becomes a must-have. Sugar Bytes, my my ...

  • I think it's fun to debate whether Factory or Aparillo is the better synth, but it really doesn't matter. Everything SB puts out these days is TOP NOTCH. I honestly can't believe how much stuff they deliver at these price points.

Yep - Factory is incredible, and much more universally useful in a variety of genres than the other SB synths. It's a beautiful thing, really.

  • So would you say if you got Factory it basically does what Aparillo offers?

    No. Different beasts.

  • Wow that’s awesome!
Haven’t had the chance to download it.

  • Interesting, in that I demo'd Aparillo and it just didn't grab me at all. Factory latched on and wouldn't let go.

  • @Tones4Christ said:

I would say that while there is certainly crossover, they're not entirely the same thing. Aparillo is more like SynthScaper to me - big sonic palates, atmospherics, cinematics, etc. Aparillo isn't as good (for ME) for consonant, more traditional synth sounds. I'm sure you could wrangle them out of that synth, but it's not what's it is designed for and it is not the strength of Aparillo.

Factory, on the other hand, is kinda like the love child of Aparillo, Cyclop & Unique. It can do some gritty, dubsteppy sounds but doesn't venture as far into this territory as Cyclop. It can do some atmospheric stuff but doesn't venture as deep as Aparillo. It can do some formant filter talky things, but again not as deep as Unique. And it can ALSO do more traditional synth-type sounds.

Factory is more universally useful to me personally, but doesn't necessarily REPLACE the others.

Does that help muddy the waters a bit?

    ;)

  • Great insight!

@Norbert I have the desktop version. I asked Sugar Bytes if MPE was coming but they didn't seem interested at all.

Indeed. Love having this Sugar Bytes stuff.

I find Factory to be extremely intuitive to make patches with. I will say I have not touched PPG Infinite since I got Factory.

I already had it on Desktop where it had established itself as one of my favourites, so this just continued on iOS. I love making new patches as it's easy to discover new sounds.

I was able to resist Aparillo (seems interesting, but wasn’t sure I’d get much use out of it), but the pull is stronger with this one.

same here - probably went through almost 100 presets on the free version last night - and several of them were very inspiring. > @kinkujin said:
