The little white ghost square only appears on COF, when dragging from the light blue background, behind the chord/piano layout. There’s no green ‘+’ symbol in it though and it doesn’t drop. The others don’t even do that I’m afraid.

If there’s no green ‘+’ it might be that Drambo doesn’t accept MIDI drops. Can you confirm whether it works with other apps?

As far as the drag targets, the main sources are guitar chord charts and piano chord names. You’ll have to hold down on the chord name itself in the chords tab when in piano display mode (or the COF as you found). Scales don’t have a drag option. The main purpose of the drag/drop update was dragging onto the chord pads, not the other way around.

I can drag and drop chords into Atom 2 hosted in Drambo, but not to Drambo's piano roll. I assume midi drag and drop isn't implemented in Drambo since it doesn't yet have midi import even apart from drag and drop.

    Gotcha. Thanks for confirming @wim.

@AppJunky Yeah there’s currently no dragging straight from the chord pads since I found that would interfere with the touch controls too much. However, you can export an entire chord pad set as a midi file from the preset browser.

If it helps at all, the drag and drop will work with other apps like Atom and with other instances of Tonality, so you can drag from the chord identification AU to another instance of the chord pads AU, for example.

  • Recording out from Tonality chord pads to Drambo in split mode works great. I think I'd rather do that than drag and drop anyway.

    @TonalityApp Good to know 👍

I wonder if a dedicated drag and drop palette (created from a Chord Pad Set) would be quite something 🤔

For me, I like to take time finding the chord base for a track. That takes a while but once it’s locked in, the ability to drag and drop any chord from that palette would be incredibly productive. A ‘page’ dedicated to only drag and drop would at least be a way around the conflict of touch controls.

I’ve not seen this anywhere else on iOS, I’d imagine lots of non-virtuosos would find it useful - but I’ve been wrong before 😁👍

Hopefully Drambo will catch up with drag and drop too 😬

The chord palette (green square thing) is exactly that, though admittedly only for guitar chords.

Really? Perhaps a short demo video with something other than Atom 2 could help generate awareness, in case there are other muppets like me that missed it? 🤔😆

It’s easy to miss. I’m the muppet here – I’ve forgotten my own code and just remembered that it does in fact support both guitar and piano voicings, though the original intent was just guitar. Here’s a bad demo that should at least give you an idea:

If you don’t have the green square palette, you can enable it in Settings -> Appearance -> Show Palette.

Ah that’s great and, separate to transferring the palette of chords to Chord Pads, I think you were showing that you could drag individual chords from the palette out to other apps that support Drag & Drop MIDI?

Yup! Just don’t have the resources on hand at the moment to demonstrate further.

Makes me wonder if there’s a definitive thread listing apps that do support Drag & Drop MIDI? 🤔

I’d be interested to see this as well.

Obviously shouldn’t judge a person on an app but strikes me you’re far from muppet 😊🙏

Thanks for the vote of confidence :D

Rather than a thread, someone should add an article to the wiki. Threads are not effective at capturing information for later recall..and can’t be kept up to date.

I’ve managed to get MIDI import to Drambo’s piano roll working by an, admittedly, convoluted route. You’ll need AUM and Atom Piano Roll 2, Details here…

  • Hello! It's been a busy year since the last update, but I hope this one is worth it!

The microphone chord recognition has been improved using a new, machine learning assisted algorithm:

    More features coming soon...

  • edited January 2023

Holy Cow @TonalityApp I love how responsive it looks on some of those extensions and inversions. Not long ago I was saying to someone how Tonality is one of best bang for your buck apps available. Feel free to quote me on that, lol. Thanks for continuing to add to this amazing app, cheers!

  • Really nice! Thank you for still updating and improving the app, I love it!

  • If anyone seeing my comment and doesn’t yet have tonality,
    Get it it now.
Tonality is a center piece app for music creation.
The most in depth in terms of scales.
It includes pretty much any scale.
(Although, I don’t think it does quarter notes)

  • Thank you all for the kind words!

  • New in v10.1:

    Chord Pads:

    • Import and export Scaler chord sets (XML format)
    • Export chord pads directly without first saving as a preset
    • Drag and drop Tonality chord pad presets (.chordPadPreset) and Scaler chord sets (.xml) onto any chord pad to insert into the current pad set
    • Bulk export and delete presets
    • Update Patchstorage API

    Chord ID:

    • Drag and drop the notes detected by the mic onto chord pads (or other apps supporting MIDI drag and drop)

    Circle of Fifths:

    • Add MIDI thru to audio unit
  • Another great update @TonalityApp

Import/Export Scaler Chord Sets, sayyy whaaaaaa!!! Lol.AND DRAG AND DROP BETWEEN TONALITY AND SCALER! You spoil us @TonalityApp lol. I see it’s in XML which I do know a little about but I’m curious how this works. I’m sure I can probably figure it out though.

Like the bulk export, too many apps overlook that. If you want to back up tracks/patches/files, or move them to another device the bulk export is clutch.

  • Funny, I had the same problem! I had no idea of the midi area, I kept looking in FX. I should’ve looked here first.

I love Tonality. It’s such a gorgeous interface, and the AUv3 are so awesome.

My issue with the chord pad, i dont know if others have had this, but I can’t create chords on the fly. I have to open a saved preset. The selection for the chord/scales in the AUv3 dont allow me to select or click “Done”

    Anyone else have this issue?

  • @fearandloathing Glad you’re mostly enjoying the app! What device and iOS version are you on? Could you send a screenshot of the page you’re not able to add a chord from?

  • edited April 2023

I am on iOS 16 and iPad M1 5th gen (Drambo) - and wow, Thanks man. I didn’t realize @TonalityApp and devs were right here! COOL!!!

  • @fearandloathing Thanks for the details! Could I also get a screenshot? You can send it to my email ([email protected]) if you don’t want to post here.

Ok. Silly user error ;p discovered
I didn’t realize to select the scale outside of the 7 Gregorian modes, you had to select it via key in. So After I pulled up the Drambo screenshot to take, I noticed my error.
    My bad dude!

  • No worries! Glad you figured it out.

  • Hi Bruce. I just joined here, and to ask about BeatMaker 3 and the midi chord pads. My bank Auv3 doesn’t write or record what is played when i play the chord pads. Do you know what I am doing wrong in the DAW? I added to midi fx, it loads and it plays but it doesn’t write to song.

BeatMaker, like some other DAWs, treats midi fix as after the timeline. There is a midi effect called midi Route (part of a midi tools bundle) that I believe can be used to route the midi back to beatmaker’s input so that it can be recorded on another track.

With some hunting, you can find directions about how to set it up. I vaguely recall a YouTube video describing how to do it.
