  • The following are the two codes for the videos that don’t play for @EyeOhEss

    AM0N8rqW8aY
    OeyVG_2WQUg

I entered them into tube au on my iPad 2017 and iPhone 6s in AUM and fiddled around with the transport control. (iOS 12.3) But I couldn’t get them to exhibit any buggy behaviour.

Either it’s a random fluke that is on and off at various times, or there is some trick I’m not doing that makes them fail, or it’s due to different software versions. I’m out of ideas for the moment.

@EyeOhEss are you also running iOS 12.3.1?

Ok... so the first video I hit this time worked fine on my iphone 7s.

So out of curiosity I then tried it on my iPhone SE. Works.

But then I tried it on my iPad (2017 9.7”)...and it doesn’t work on there..

Only a short video. Shouldn’t be a RAM problem?

All devices running same OS. Same AUM channel config and no other apps open.

    Any ideas?

Something I noticed during this time was that the Tube AU video playback position slider keeps disappearing on my phones in AUM. The grey underlay for the slider is there, but no actual slider..

Thank you. We will check on it.

Deleted Tube au on iPad and reinstalled then reboot. That video I linked before that didn’t play before works now....

Carried on random tests. Hit this video and while it was loading the AUM transport ‘play’ button turned red. Then video started playing but no sound. Clicked on the AUM transport play button and got a pop up saying ‘Not Running. The audio engine is not running. Perhaps you have an ongoing phone or video call? If not, try closing all background apps and restart AUM’.

Closed everything and tried again and exact same thing happened -

This video works ok on SE phone (didn’t try on 7plus). Crashes AUM on my iPad...

it works fine for me. ^_^

Just got back home and sat down to try and figure out if I could make sense of it....tested that jack and beanstalk video that wasnt playing and crashing AUM’s audio engine and now it works fine.

No idea at all what was up before?!?!! I’ve made no changes to anything, literally just fixed itself. Playing fine and not crashing AUM causing that AUM pop up box message to appear...Don’t know if maybe some kind of under the hood auto-housekeeping went down in the couple hours between attempts? But yeah, all working ok @Blue_Mangoo :)

I don’t have any faith in a bug fix solution that comes and goes on its own. But there’s little we can do to fix the bug permanently until we can observe it in action. So for now, we just have to let it alone. Please keep us posted. Sorry for the trouble.

FWIW, there is another app that does some YT related stuff -- and when things don't work, clearing its cache is often a key step. I have no idea if that could be relevant here. But if cacheing happens, I wonder if a stale incomplete or broken cache file could be involved.

shouldn't that be kept a secret lol

That theory fits well with the intermittent nature of the bug. We will consider it. Thank you.

Maybe I’m missing something, but is there a way to navigate “back” within the YouTube browser?

I can’t seem to return to the search results after viewing a video which makes navigation difficult.

If you’d rather questions be directed at support, just let me know.

You can tap on the youtube logo on top left of the window?

The YouTube logo link only takes me back to the main front page of YouTube, not the previous page I was on.

I think we should be able to browse back to get to the previous web page since it’s basic browser functionality.

    Use case, steps to reproduce:

    1. search TubeAU for “jazz piano solos”
    2. Get list of 10+ video results
    3. Click one
    4. Realize it’s garbage
    5. Try to go back to search results.
    6. Find No path to navigate back
    7. Click on YouTube icon
    8. Returned to YouTube home page
    9. Search again for “Jazz piano solos”
    10. Get same list of results.

See what I mean? I just a want a quick way to avoid entering the same search terms over and over again.

But like I said, maybe I’m missing something obvious or others don’t screen/audition as many videos so it’s not as big of a problem.

I rarely need to go forward, but ALWAYS need to go back.

    Thanks for the co-sign.

I see what you mean. It is troublesome to browse without the back button. We will work on it.

  • Input Level in AUM is to high.

Yeah, I noticed that it’s in the red quite often. But we are just taking the output straight from the videos without modifying the volume. Perhaps AUM marks it red before it actually clips?

  • @hei its living up to your name “hei” joking. Just use the AUM built in Gain after you insert AUM

  • @Blue_Mangoo would it be possible to display & retain the song title once its been loaded into Tube AU?

If this app is a full WebAU I think it would stand less chance of being dropped by Youtube.
This code change shows how easy it is for them to block it.

I could see it from their perspective, it's using (part of ) their name and content and they are getting zero money from the app, other than viewing. But a web AU would more likely go under the radar. You could have a list of supported sites and then anything other than that would be experimental.

I'd also be much more interested in using it with other internet sources. ;)

    +1.

Also the comments about keeping it quiet so YT don't notice made me chuckle.

Heh, yep, well at least it might make them more willing to ignore it for the time being :)
Also there’s loads of things which can be legitimately sampled out there in web land which is cool, not just YT.
Lots of audio + midi web sites coming out.

That’s another thing, we need web midi in AUM/AB3

    How about webmidi ? @Blue_Mangoo :)

WebMIDI... it plays midi files that are embedded in websites?

It allows MIDI to be sent from a website to a locally connected MIDI device.... for example Novation Components uses it...you go to the components website, connect your circuit to your laptop, and then from the website send sysex to the circuit. Apple does not currently support webMIDI in Safari.

Interesting. Probably doable in AU web browser.

I'm not sure how much the Novation stuff relies on the windows/Mac drivers for the devices or if it uses all standard MIDI with no handshaking .. it uses a bootloader driver for the circuit to be able to communicate.
Personally this would be the only real use I would have for it, but as @Carnbot says, there are other WebMIDI enabled sites around.

The problem is that Apple has been slow to implement WebMIDI standards for iOS. The Web MIDI Browser by Takashi Mizuhiki is the only app on iOS that I’m aware of that attempts to support this and it hasn’t been updated in 3 years. The MIDI Association lists the details and has tutorials. Google has been doing the heavy lifting on this while Apple has dropped the ball or more accurately never taken it up.

Here’s a chart that shows which browsers support WebMIDI and which do not.
