Yeah, the Rebirth UI was quite unpleasant to use on the iPad. I loved it on the Mac when it first came out. I don't think I ever used it on the iPad beyond a little bit of mucking about.

Yeah I haven't really done anything with it. Just tested it in AUM and it still works as IAA if you load it first, no sync though.

Much better connectivity including Ableton Link, much better and much more effects including MFX, much easier to programme and sequence, UI far better, AUv3 coming, better squelch factor, automation coming (hopefully) off the top of my head 👍

Yeah, all of that makes it very tempting. The UI is the biggest draw. The Climbatize demo in the vid sounded extremely good too, probably my favourite Prodigy track.

Probably silly question, but without seeing a demo - what does this do that I can't already do with Brambos's apps and a couple of synths?

This- but if you can do it with some Brambos apps and some synths- you’ve just saved yourself £8 😃

    ReBirth nostalgia.

Funnily enough I’ve never got on with ReBirth - I’ve got the app, and had desktop versions over the years but never got on with the UI. I like the noise it makes though.

I’ll check out the Facebook vids, sounds like I’m more suited to a Brambos setup though.

So....begs the question....if you HAVE Rebirth on your Ipad already (and have a 12.9 so can actually see it/use it) will there be much difference? Literally asking for a friend because I've already pre-ordered :)

I've just had a look at the vid, and had a play with Rebirth on the iPad - the new app UI is much better, and more user-friendly than the ReBirth app. Plus it's going to be well supported.

I think the only question for me is whether I'd actually use it when I've got all the Brambos stuff sitting here already. I need to dig that out later and see if it can do the same job.

Looks really nice though, I could see myself weakening over the coming months as a Friday night treat.

Remember that the price will be going up firstly on day of release- so if you don’t pre order then the price goes up a bit, then the price goes up again when Jim adds in the AUv3- so if you are getting it at all you are better of pre ordering now. You can then keep the difference and put it towards Drambo - which will make it feel you are getting that cheaper as well - it’s being released prior to Christmas 🎄 ‘Tis the season to be jolly’

At release, Pure Acid won’t have a song mode or automation, correct? So it won’t really be a replacement for Rebirth as such. Also Rebirth has 2 303’s (although it started with 1).If you’re using Pure Acid IAA, you’ll be limited to one instance. When Pure Acid goes AU, it will be a different story, and with a decent host you’ll be able to build all kinds of dream setups.

Correct- though it does have pattern chain. Rebirth only automated in song mode. To me Pure Acid will totally dwarf Rebirth in pretty much all aspects.

Yeah, problem is I did a pre-order, first ever a few months back and the price went cheaper a few weeks later and vowed never to do one again.

Just as a personal rule I don't do them, as I like to see the feedback on here, and Doug's vids first. It's only two quid anyway, and Mrs Monzo can gift it to me for xmas.

No, I swear you have it backwards arse there mate. I always think of the songs or even just lines I've written in the two months (two weeks! two days!) before the price goes down on special offer. Save a few shekels? Sure. Yes - especially when you get to use the app right away, not having to wait for a sale to actually use something. That's the price of early entry. You can't fiddle with something that isn't there.

 Maybe. But take 4pockets Multitrack audio app - I bought it on pre-order, and then it was for sale as a bundle mere days after release. I'm not that bothered about it - it just makes me wonder if it's a bit pointless doing the pre-ordering. That said, I still do pre-order stuff, anyway! Me silly. Me impatient. Me trigger-happy :)

  • The difference with this pre-order is the developer has said that the price definitely will go up on release, then up again on the AU release. Unless he does a drastic sale after that, the pre-order is going to be a savings. This time.

Yes, absolutely. I'm seriously looking forward to this app, and everything else by the dev is absolutely first class. I had no hesitation and would have pre-ordered whatever the price, tbh.

Everybody isn’t. Some are pointing out their frustrations with premature sales just after they’ve bought something. So for example I was £50 worse off earlier this year, because I bought just two apps at the wrong time.

No-one on this forum has ever said apps are too expensive, but when you find out you could have saved a few quid, and used that cash for other apps on your list, then it’s a disappointment.

Exactly this. I feel very lucky to live in a time where these wonderful apps are available so cheaply. Furthermore, I am really thankful to the fantastic devs who make this astonishing stuff, and I wish they made more cash and would happily pay a bit more to purchase the great things they come up with. But that doesn't mean one must a happy-clappy sort.

Con? Come on. That implies bad faith. Most of the times when you see developers adjusting the prices down shortly after release , it indicates that the initial release didn't sell as many copies as they anticipated or more likely didn't earn what they needed for development to be worthwhile and so their doing what they can to get some traction.

With rare exception, they aren't conning anyone and are just trying to figure out how to get a not too terrible return on their invested time.

Yeah, you're absolutely right about that - I definitely chose the wrong word. I don't think any of the devs are conning anyone. What I should have said is that it's really just a bit pointless doing the pre-ordering in many cases. But, yes, you're definitely right and I would like it on record that I certainly do not think any dev is acting in bad faith.

I’m totally excited about Pure Acid, but I’m thinking I’ll skip the pre-order, for two reasons:

    1. With app prices and profit margins as low as they are, good devs deserve more. I’ll gladly pay the “final” price when PA gets AU and/or a proper song mode.
    2. Until PA does get those features, I won’t have much use for it anyway, to be honest. At this point my workflow is very AU-centric; playing around with PA as an IAA would be fun at first, but ultimately frustrating.
  • I wanted to pre-order for the discount but the price has already gone up, will it go up even more after release?

Wait, did it go up? Was it $7.99 and now it's $8.99?

  • I’m pretty sure I paid £7.99. Can’t find anywhere to see what price I ordered it for though....
