Octachron was first thing I tried — basic triggering worked fine with general midi defaults... So far just threw on a bit of electogene, eventide ultratap and fac bandit = perfection.

OT how do we feel about electrogene? I keep debating even though it seems really flexible and unique.

I already have degrader, and shaper but this seems different.

    Please advise 😉🙂

Holy crap this is great. x4 Octachron and cc modulating transpose so far (thanks to @gusgranite for mappings) and already some more than usable beats. Been wanting a quality sounding sounding, innovative ios drum synth and here it is! Good times. Now I'm going to map midi delay to last octave.

  • Hate to be the first to criticize, but... only 4 billion sounds? That’s a good start, but what about the mild frustration and ennui I will feel when in 36 years I have gone through all the sounds? A truly PRO app would have at least 5 billion served every minute... like McDonkeys restaurant. Also, this app has absolutely no ranch dressing at all. None. 🤓

Seriously tho, fascinating stuff! Loads o’fun and bizarrely useful sounds. This teamed with Koala looks to be a sweet combo. Thanks AZ!

  • Where do the exported sounds live? I can't find folder in files.app.

    Hers’s the full octaves mappings.

Are these mappings specific for that particular instance of Fractal Bits?
Or is the "bass drum" kind of sound always mapped to 36, 44, 52, 60, 68 (and same for the other sounds)?

Fractal Bits file, on iPad - not iCloud. At least that’s where they showed up for me..

  • This is my favorite Zolotov app so far. This is freakin fun and useful.

Over the past couple years I’ve gotten the most pleasure from the cheapest apps...Ratshack Reverb, this, Spectrum, a couple others that escape me at the moment.

spectrum bundle going MPE soon too!

  • great thing about this app that is works straight off the bat.

The sounds in this are great.
But I do wish you could move the sounds around. It's easy enough to find a kick you like, but you wish you could put it on Pad 1 and build out a kit from there. (Or can you and I'm missing something?)
And I'm mightily impressed at the work of @gusgranite but I have no idea what to do with it! Why do we need 5 sequencers to drive Fractal Bits?

You get four octaves per sound where each octave of one sound can be sequenced separately. At least that's what I understand from playing around with multiple sequencers.

  • Actually there is more than a few octaves worth of sounds as the 12 main sounds are transposed across the entire keyboard range :)

    Even better!

Yeah folder not showing in files for.me.either. Done hard reset strange

Resolved. Only works with the stand alone app. Creates a folder once exported from stand alone. Doesn’t appear to work from the AU

Not sure about moving sounds around, but it seems you can lock the pads of the sounds you like, then continue changing the rest of the kit until you find more sounds you like, then lock them too to build a kit.

  • My Digitakt will be hungry on arrival and I just found the perfect food for it.What a great app.Effects also sound really nice, possibly the most transparent reverb I’ve heared, even in high values and Lofi/overdrive adds nice grit/warmth.
Just one thing.I might have set something wrong here, but using it in Cubasis as AUV3 doesn’t let me record using the pads.I can only input notes via the Cubasis keyboard.
If that’s the same for everyone, then that is,but I would like to know if I’m wrong here.

  • Tomorrow night at 8:00 pm UK time, Doug (the Sound Test Room) will be in streaming on YouTube with a Fractal demo video. Don’t dare to miss it...

It will be fun, Dough goes Electro :)
(The app is just too much fun with very usable 'happy accidents' when creating sounds, especially when loading the samples to other apps).

Confirmed. There is no MIDI out to any app, neither from the AU or the Standalone.

  • Most fun I’ve had with it so far was loading it up as a sound generator in audioshare’s recorder, recording the 7 custom soundbanks I’d compiled in fractal bits, slicing up my favorite one-shots up and importing them in Koala. The latter has been a perfect match for experimenting with glitchy beats and playing the tuned samples.

I’m biased, as lo-fi/bitcrushing is among my favorite types of effect. (wish I could have Softube’s OTO biscuit emulation on iOS ;). .. electrogene was definitely worth it , a unique sound from the others mentioned. I love the built in modulation and filter.

it’s easily In my top 3 or 4 favorites. WoodLofier, Turnado, Effectrix and Egoist are also worth looking into, especially if you like the ability to intricately sequence the glitchy goodness, somewhat similar to a Biscuit.

If anyone wants, here’s a koala template w/ the samples built in and a separate .zip with just the samples by themselves.

These biscuits were darned expensive I recall. Lo Fi Dirt, Buttercup Bitcrush and Degrader are pretty good as well. Talking about lofi- it’s a good idea to keep that effect down in Fractal bits just to help that clear distinction in the actual sounds.

Yeah, it’s a shame that so few were made before production ended. (In the hundreds?) as it apparently was too expensive to make and not profitable. Currently the only one I see on the used market is on Reverb for $1500 (ouch) — been listed at that price for 7 months now with no takers. Pulsar 23 can soon be had for that amount, which will be all the glitchy drum and bass sauce I’d ever need :)

I’ll just have to hold out hope for an eventual re-issue or eventually settle with the desktop plugin.

I think I just wanted to see all of the pads light up while being sequenced by Rozeta X0X 😝
