Yowza, nice surprise indeed. Am I correct that you can only change the algorithm via the AU parameter (which works fine moving between 1-3) and there isn't a way to change the algorithm via the app UI?

    1, 2, 3 & random.

Also couldn’t find a way to change the algorithm in the standalone app.

An interesting design decision to not put it in the standalone app (or the AU UI even). Using the AUM control to change the algorithm, I'm not sure I totally grok what's happening under the hood.

Check under midi mapping - parameter: algorithm - tap below to change it..

  • Love this!

    Aha! Good find, thank you!

  • For those of you hoping to try out the new algo options without having to menu dive each time, you can set the AUM param controller to change the algorithm option and as you move the dial from 0 to 1 to 2 to 3, you will see the UI in the MIDI mapping change accordingly:

It turns out that it moves from fractal sample (0-1) to fractal spectrum (1-2) to FM (2-3). All the way up to 3 is random.

  • @lukesleepwalker thanks for that tip.. 👍

    Great update
    👍

    No freaking way. Sweet.

  • Anyone got some sound examples of the new algorithms?

It costs two bucks and would only take a few minutes to try out on your own. You should just go for it IMO. :)

On top of that, it would be near impossible to capture the millions of possible permutations. It's a freaky thing of nature, and you just have to experience it firsthand.

  • Ooh looking forward to getting my teeth into this update B)

  • Fractal Bits is honestly one of my favourite apps on iOS. So fast to get good electronic clicks and 'tops' out of it. Putting a range limited random LFO on the transpose can work well, too.

  • Nice, It took me a sec to find the algorhythm in midi mapping but it made this app even sicker and more trippy! I love the FM so far and have stayed on it and just typing in numbers for the 12 billion fractal sounds! I love using a poly seq or riffer to send note patterns into it. Of course drum machine midi out into fractal bits in is always a hit, if not just generate again!

The v1.1b bug fix release today enabled me to periodically modulate AUv3 parameters such as Algorithm and Next Code in apeMatrix.

  • Maaaan this is amaaazing! 🙌😍😍😍😍
How did I skip this for so long?. This is truly glorious.
How the fffffk can you do all this with 5mb of code?. Unbelievable.
Kind of app that makes you giggle in unbelieve.
Of course I immediately started wanting to rearrange pads, to set Volume and adsr per pad, etc. But I’d tell my self to sod off. It’s perfect. This is not a drum machine it’s an amazing sound generator. Unpredictable by nature and that’s the beauty of it.

  • The lock feature is particularly helpful, I lock the sounds I like then hit the next button and repeat that process until I have a good kit going, then save the preset.

Setting it to show three octaves of pads is killer.

For easy pad ordering I quickly sample into Koala.

  • Lookin’ forward to what you do with it @tahiche. I think it could work well with the stuff you do.

That is what you can do when you export the session as a SunVox file.
There you can add all the filters and per sound mangling you need :sunglasses:

Another option is to export each pad as a *.wav and dump them into a sampler of your choice for more mangling.
(Fractalbits creates a folder in Files.app so it's just a matter of Drag'n'Droping them into for example Koala).

Enjoy the app it's really fun and inspirational.
You can also temporarily freeze some of the pads to create a 'perfect kit' before you export...

I didn’t know that it could export to wav.

    Thanks 👍

Yes, and even more than 3 octaves if you feed it with external midi :sunglasses:
It's 12 sounds per kit for a reason...

  • Just noticed this thread. I’ll be checking this out later!

  • 12 billion fractalized sounds: from mad hatter idm to nice subtle clicks and snaps. You cant go wrong for fx and drums etc!

  • Locking is genius. FB samples into Hammerhead then bringing loops into Koala= win

  • This is such a genius app. I’ve been really digging the FM setting. I can get great tops and almost weirdly melodic stuff if I drop the octaves down a couple notches

  • I still wish there is a concept of “per pad” tweaking…perhaps a LPF on each pad to tame that static and hiss,or transpose per pad to make it more melodic and also display the pad CC# right on the pad…it wil be more fun and useful if there are fader style controls right on the pad for more immediate gratification

Yeah, the FM option changes things in a good way--if the fractal stuff isn't really working for the tops, just flip it to FM and see if it settles into the pocket.

That is why it's got SunVox export, you can do all that there :sunglasses:

Detach all the 'samples' from the 'kit' add filters, wave-shapers etc to them and assign each to their own midi channel and voila 12 polyphonic instruments each on their own midi-channel...
