Is Egoist worth getting at £17.99? I've had it on my radar for a while, but now it's here, and having just bought Electribe Wave, I'm wondering what do do!

Recently have been digging into it and really ‘digging it’. Not my kind of thing, I thought, but man is it ever fun and engaging. I’d recommend it if you’ve got the bux.

I was a big fan of it when it was released long ago but it's not a must-have anymore, two more capable candidates IMHO are GR-16 (using multiple sliced audio files simultaneously plus synth plus drums etc) and Gadget+Stockholm for using ready-made REX files (many free ones are available). Both have better slice manipulation and automation options including synth-like modules.

I would say no. I get much more slicing fun out of the slice randomiser in Blocs Wave- and it’s much cheaper. I have Egoist but hardly ever use it.

Thanks. When I get a decisive 'no', it does tend to make me think I should hold off.

And the IAP purchases on sale too

Unique for iPad is at $7.99 now, too.

If you primarily use Unique as AU, you should get the iPhone version, you save some money and it’s universal too, and once you open it in the host, the GUI size it’s pretty similar.

I swear by Dubstation. It's an old app but a really good one.

  • K7D and RE-1 are also both awesome, but are tape style delays as opposed to hi-fi digital ones

I think you've missed it... Klevgrd's apps don't seem to be on sale anymore at this time, but I picked up Modley 2 days ago and I have to say that this delay is simply fantasticaly magical... and so deep !

  • One of the greatest apps ever..

Out of K7D, Dubstation and RE-1 I would say RE-1 can give you the largest variety of delay tones, including vintage-style degradation.

  • BLEASS Delay is certainly worth checking out, as are all BLEASS apps 😎

I'd watch some vids first, it's an odd one Egoist. I used to use it a lot when it first came out in standalone, not so much as an AU, but it is a very powerful app. For basic sample slicing/playback I prefer to use ReSlice than Egoist now. Blocs is ok, but you can't move the slice points, which makes it pretty useless for me.

I watched some videos a while back and thought it looked great. But sometimes it's good to see what people actually using it think. I do really want a good sample slicer - is it easy to sequence the slices?

Guys i haven’t found any videos or sound samples of anyone using Eventide’s Micropitch for leads on guitar. Is this something that its just not suitable for? Wondered if i should get it.

I’m currently using Tonestack’s PolyOct effect and it works great but it’s not AU. Any ideas?

    Ahhhhhh! It's a feeding frenzy!!

Too risky to buy Korg synths in the hope that they'll become AU?

Buy an app for what it does and not what it might do. Some of the Korg synths are great synths whose character makes up for not being AU. Hard to know over what time frame other AUs will follow and which ones will be converted.

Would be silly of me not to complete my Bram Bos collection...

  • I would say Kias RE-1 might be the El Capistan of iOS 💪🏼

What does Blackhole reverb give you that EOS 2 cannot?

Check out the many YouTube demos and listen. It has a unique character all its own that many love. The sort of thing where the reverb is almost an instrument in itself.

Yeah, pretty straightforward - you just move the slice points (numbered 1 - 16) across the sample display to where you want them, and in the sequencer section below, select which sample plays via a slider. You can then control pitch, sample length, reverse etc., or do what I do and muck about with the randomisers.

There's a built-in bass and drum section, and it's pretty easy to MIDI out the bassline to a separate app (Cyclop fits the bill nicely).

It's also got it's own mini-Effectrix section, and this can be applied to the sample, bass and drums parts.

You can probably do a lot of this stuff now with combinations of AU's, but it was pretty amazing when it came out a few years ago. Whenever I revisit it I always ask myself whyI'm not using it more.

Yes I listened to the videos. I'm not hearing anything unique. I guess it's not for me.

I am pretty sure that Eventide released a video that is about 15 minutes long with a guitar player demoing ultratap, blackhole and micropitch.

Yes, this video has saved the euros I was about to spend on Micropitch

Kosmonaut by BramBos should be $4. It can even do Frippertronics looping.

UltraTap and Blackholes do delays by Eventide and are discounted
    4Pockets probably has 2-3 Delays
for that dotted 8th effect (US's Edge) try Discord4 I think.

Bleass Delay is like a delay in an amusement park.

  • Which is best Shimmer effect overall app?

It’s very easy to sequence the slices in Blocs Wave- or you can just sit back and keep tapping the random button 😯. It’s really good. Also if you like the slicers and dicers - have a look at Sector if you haven’t seen it.
