Has Cubasis 3 Finally surpassed NS2 ?

  • I'm just making a wish for 2020 that Ableton will bring 'something' for iPadOS that includes audio & midi-tracks, full AUv3 support and both Simpler and DrumRack...

Cubasis 3 could do with a 'Cubase Sampler Track IAP' or at least give the Cubasis 3 Mini Sampler an option to use any Audio/Midi Track as sampling input making it easier to Sample AUv3s or process any input thru a bunch of effects prior to sampling...

GarageBand's sampler could use destructive trim before saving a sample, as could BeatHawk which also should get input selection & monitoring when sampling...

Hopefully NS2 will also get Audio Tracks at some point...

Oh well, It's Christmas so I'll try to stay In a positive cheerful mood :D

An Ableton app would be great indeed! Especially now they could offer a better alternative to C3.
MiniSampler is so bad, it shouldn't be called a sampler, it's rather a key-triggered audio file player.
If I had to choose the worst samplers on iOS then Garageband would take the first place, MiniSampler the second. No velocity layers, no LFO and no modulation, extremely unprecise sample editing, a loop crossfade function that just doesn't work, no envelopes, no filter, nothing. Ah yes, it can load samples :D

As for audio tracks in NS2, yesterday I've found that Group The Loop can be sled over NS2 and, when synced via LINK, give you audio tracks. Not a great solution for long linear tracks but a lot of fun when you record your instruments phrase-by-phrase with recording in perfect sync, including pre-count.

  • I’d be happy if Ableton dipped their toes with just a session view audio clip launcher with 16 tracks and unlimited scenes, external and internal sampling, equal power crossfader.... simpler, drumracks etc can wait for me.

  • If Ableton released even Ableton lite on iOS with projects exportable to the desktop daw I'd basically delete all my other iOS daws.

    • LESS FEATURES than on desktop. Yes, limited festures list is for me actually advantage

Last one is particulary important for me. Many people wants iOS apps matching feature set of desktop apps (especially DAWs) - not me. For me limitations are actually boosting factor for creativity. I like limited feature set, on desktop i ended with trillions of plugins installed working in DAW wih trillions of features - but my creativity was drowning in available posibilities and i ended in creative block.
With iOS limitations i made actually way much more music durig last 9 years than i ever made on desktop with "limitless" posibilities..

    Same here mate.

    And me! 😆

I have a full specced MacBook Pro which would be amazing for production, but it’s my ‘work computer’ and will never be anything else.

Samola. And yeah, a laptop is portable but try using it on a packed ass train with no elbow room. No thanks.

I'm not sure what kind of computer only costs five quid, at that point they should have just given it to you lol...

  • I read all these comments and then I use CB3 on my iPhone and it’s an absolute joy to use with very few issues.

Maybe I’m one of the lucky ones...

An Ableton offering would be nice...even if it was a Drumrack AUv3 where I could import all my existing drum rack kits...

  • ...or make kits on my iphone

A Q9550 quad core with 4gb, I upgaded it to WIn 10 and cleaned out the gunk from inside, it is now a standalone sampler in the studio, I put a rebadged RME (Alcatech Digiscratch) in a PCI slot that cost £15 and it has a much lower latency than any iPad and runs a ton of voices, does it replace an iPad, no, and that isn't what I said, I pointed out that the idea that an iPad and IOS software in general is cheaper than desktop is generally untrue.

I have Cubasis2, NS2, BM3, Korg Gadget and GarageBand (of Course) on an iPad Pro2018.

Which DAW is the best: All and None :-)
There are all great and I use them rotating between them.

    Regarding NS2:
I prefer using NS2 over all DAWs(!) when only using AU3 and Obsidian. (no external synth and audio).
Good for editing complex pieces (like classic music with iOrchestra).
Very stable and great performance. Great user interface.

However, if using my external synth (with audiointerface) I can not uses NS2.

    Regarding Cubasis2:
The pianoroll is nowhere near NS2 regarding usablity. In cubasis the pianoroll is simply the worst of all my DAWs.
However Cubasis 2 works perfect with my Steinberg USB interface.
Great for sequencing and using external synth. I like the freeze function to save CPU.

On Cubasis 3: I wait a couple of months, till most bugs are fixed... Then I will upgrade (a sale or upgrade option would be convincing).

My advice: As all are greats and over different advantages and Workflows:
Get them in a sale and rotate them...

For every new project I switch my DAW to keep my inspired:
Mon: NS2 with iOrchestra to create a classic peace.
Wed: Korg Gadget for a Chiptune song
Fri: Cubasis 2/3 to use my external synth and use Audio
Sat: BM3 to create a beat.

    Get the idea :) ???

    +1
I’ve been using CB3 on my iPhone 8 plus and wondering where all the bugs are 🤷🏻‍♂️

Really nice update although it would be good to see some more new features like groove quantise, chord/arranger tracks and piano roll ghost notes.

    @astral_body : Can’t use NS2 w an external synth? Really?

Can’t use NS2 w an external synth? Really?

I think he meant just recording external synth to audio tracks... Rest stuff is of course working, i'm using NS with my HW synths daily ;-)
