  • it's illogical to think that a pathological liar would make a good president, be good for the presidency, or good for the country so why would anyone do that?

Well, I don't support him. But that doesn't mean I don't respect the office he holds.

he's corrupted the office he holds, because he doesn't respect it himself.... imho if people really respected the office he holds they would kick him out of it, cause right now it's like pooping your pants and claiming the poop stinks but your pants don't hahaha

  • @ Mr. vitocorleone

So you want to lecture me on racism?

A little history they don't talk about in books:

As a child in Mississippi, ages 8 -16, I was bussed 15 miles across town to a horrible neighborhood because of de-segregation. I was beaten, robbed, and stabbed as a teen. There was a great school down the block that I couldn't attend. Black children faced the same plight.
I've been turned down countless times for jobs because of the color of my skin. I've been in line at the grocery store trying to buy a loaf of bread for my family, because that is all I could afford. In front of me, a lady using food stamps to buy steaks for her dogs. I could not get food stamps, because I was white. My town is 90% black. I've been called a "cracker" in front of my family many times. I do realize black people have had it much worse than me. My kids are half Chinese. Things are not always just black and white. There is a lot of gray area.
Against my better judgement, I posted in here to maybe counter all of the hatred. It was a mistake. I apologize.

  • Isn’t it about time this whole topic was wrapped up? I thought it was an excellent topic initially for people to vent their concerns about the pandemic management.
I enjoyed the comments and I learnt a lot from many intelligent posts. This now seem to have degenerated to a diatribe on US politics, racism, name calling anyone who disagrees with certain peoples’ views etc etc etc. And a bile duct for certain people to make such sweeping statements as if they were the norm, and not just their own personal view.
Does this topic as it stands now actually serve any purpose for anyone?
We are all under pressure. For me, I am totally pissed off. I know I can totally delete this topic but it is hard not to dip into it sometimes.
What has this to do with music? Or, at least go back to providing a venting opportunity for those who need it to let off steam about the subject in question?

  • I concur. Thank you!

  • That is a perspective few have experienced, @fritzm, and it sounds like a difficult way to grow up. But surely you don't need proof of his racism to know that the president has defiled the office he holds.

  • @fritzm said:

WRONG. The public overall acted responsibly and followed the rules

Yes, just like they are doing right now by luting stores, hurting innocent people, and destroying lives. Yes, just like that.

We were talking about the UK?

  • @fritzm said:

I mandolined a store once. Is that the same...?

OK. You have a legitimate grievance but that doesn't make you a poster boy for institutional racism against "white people". You are the exception by a huge margin. I'm sorry for your pain and the injustice of your situation but the comments about those around you show you didn't miss the racist gene.
You should ne provided assistance as well and that's the problem. Not the fact that the woman with assistance is black. Getting called a cracker is not great. Have they burned any crosses on your lawn or taken a neighbor out and tarred and feathered them? Probably not.

So, we can debate the one offs and use anecdotal data but the bigger picture is clear. If your back and you get pulled over by the police you are in a high risk situation statistically. Fact.

Donald Trump is clearly a racist in his heart and deeds. I repeats the office on POTUS and he degrades it. He was impeached and got by due to a handful of old white men. He broke laws but there's this DOJ memo that says wait for him to be the non-POTUS.

I respect the office but the man in it is trash and dangerous. He has a whole family ready to continue the legacy of pulling money and influence out of the US Government. Fight back.

I should add that this thread is intended to allow you and others to vent about the government. Venting about individuals is not great but sometimes you do have to vent about what's posted here... you have and I just did too. You're not going to convert masses to feeling sorry for our embattled POTUS. He provides new outrages daily.
You can never repair the damn until the water flows out of the reservoir and he's full of
    effluent and can make more.

I absolutely wasn't lecturing anyone. Also, while your personal story sounds interesting (I mean that genuinely, not being snarky or anything) and challenging, it can help to remove yourself from the picture.

I do research for a living. What I think about something has nothing to do with what I'm trying to learn about. If my self and thinking expresses itself in a study, it's called bias. I've heard the saying of either "I'm a focus group of one" or "Don't be a focus group of one." Or when making music - getting critical distance from what you've created in order to mix and master it.

Also, please let us know how any of the other previous modern president's were as horrendously amoral and corrupt as this one. Bush Jr was a bad president. All the others made mistakes, as humans do. For example, Obama's constant use of drones was horrible, being so cozy with wall street in the bailout was a major mistake, and thinking the Republicans would ever give any respect to the office of president and do their jobs was just plain stupid, and let's not forget about the time he wore a tan suit, or used dijon that really triggered the right wingers. Far better to lie every day multiple times, cozy up with fascist dictators, excuse racists as good people, encourage violence, dehumanize americans, lock children in cages causing them and their families lifelong trauma, destroy the environment and endanger (and kill) by doing so, and on, and on, and on.

  • Dear @fritzm, you may be a professor of bassism, but you are not a student of Trump history.
    Here are some facts...
    1. Dad klansman, arrested for it.
    2. Full page NYT ad to kill Central Park 5, even when exonerated he still felt they were guilty. Never apologized.
    3. Convicted of discriminating against blacks in low rent housing, claimed victory.
    4. Attack against Obama's American origins.
    5. The famous “good people on both sides”.
    6. Attacking the “Squad”, questioning their rights as Americans and telling them to go home.
    7. Immigrants are murderers and rapists.
    8. Baltimore is rat infested, not fit for human habitation.
    9. ....
I’m sure there is more I could come up with, but is not that enough?... oh, yeah “Where is my African American?”

  • @vitocorleone123 -
I apologize for not understanding. Good luck with your endeavors, it sounds interesting.
As for the rest, I need to move on to music. I took my thrashing like a man. lol

I respect the differences, and we can disagree as polar opposites on politics. What I do appreciate - and what we have in common - is a love of music (albeit different music, as well). Connecting on something is critical, and not only are you a musician, but you teach others. That's awesome.

This thread is for venting, because these are exceptionally stressful times. I drift in and out of it. I couldn't be in it 24/7.

  • @vitocorleone123
Hey, I'm not all about Jazz, I just did it for a living. I'm in to modular synthesis in a big way. In fact, I don't really like listening to Jazz. I do like improv though.

umm, I've got black relatives who can't get food stamps and it's not because they are white, it's because of how much they make...
I think you might not know how food stamps work... what is the statute for food stamps that you are referring to that precludes white people from getting them..?

the ironic thing is that in the United States white people are the majority recipients of food stamps , so I'm not sure what you're talking about?

but at least we can agree on one thing, racism is not a black or white thing, it's a racist or non-racist thing, we should join each other in denouncing this racist clown of a president that is currently in office , his corrupt administration and this absurd response to the cover-19 virus that he's almost lied about every single day.

Italy didn’t understand what devastation was coming until it was upon them, my country the UK, should have seen the future, because that was happening in Italy.

I know, we all didn't pay attention to Italy, but we all know now that Italy could have been in the heartland of America and we would not have paid attention to it
with this president the truth never stood a chance!

Italy isn’t included in the countries on the left.

  • What is the statute for food stamps that you are referring to that precludes white people from getting them..?

Only because you asked me a direct question. The statute is called 1980's Mississippi. Pre internet of coarse.

were you aware that white people are the largest recipients of foodstamps in America?

also I'm not familiar with the status of your families immigration but were you aware that the president wants to abolish birthright citizenship because he doesn't want Chinese people who've had children in this country to be able for their children to have citizenship?

of course he wants his wife's parents to receive citizenship, of course they aren't Chinese though.

are you aware that the president wants American companies to leave china and keep their businesses in America because that's the patriotic thing to do.... but the president hasn't brought his business back to america from china himself... something he could do with a phone call?.... where I come from we call that hypocrisy...

I don't know about you but this isn't the kind of person I would ever elect into office to face this Epic Pandemic or any of the issues we face in america today..
    it's shameful!!!

Yes, I'm aware of this, I'm not stupid. Blacks make up only 13% of the population last time I checked. But not in Jackson, MS.

My children have been U.S. citizens their entire life. Don't you think I'm aware of how it works?

I don't know about you but this isn't the kind of person I would ever elect into office to face this Epic Pandemic or any of the issues we face in america today..

I think we are all aware of how you feel. This is kinda getting old. You win OK? I'm a liar and I'm a stupid racist redneck. Feel better? Now, be a good boy get some rest.
    Onward to music!

Here in the (UK) the Test and Trace system is ‘working well’, but no website as yet, maybe they need to track it down.

Im really worried about them opening schools again
You know how it is, children always drag home sicknesses and parasites from kindergarten and the first 4 classes. Good luck with social distancing kids. It’s a joke.
I wouldn’t send my kids to school now if I had some.

I'm worried to Max23. I'm a teacher and I still don't understand how this will work. I have some classes with over 20 students in smallish rooms. I don't want my kids going back either.

calm down, stay strong.. we'll get through this together. I will never be your boy, but I'll always be here to help you fight the racism that you and I have spoken of that this racist president encourages...

  • I am so lucky to be teacher and have good job. We've got this online class thing down pretty good now. I think my school may go to a hybrid thing where maybe the kids come in half of the time. But what about working parents? It's certainly going to be challenging.
@kobamoto - I've been calm since the beginning. It's all good. I still love you.
But, I have more important things to do right now, like locate some more velcro for my pedalboard. Be safe!
