Arturia is a shady company though. Ethically it's on a par with Behringer. I've been avoiding their stuff for a while due to the bad vibes.

In what way is Arturia a bad actor?

The only ethical complaint that I have ever seen was when some Mutable Instruments fans felt that Arturia had been misleading in a press release that implied Mutable Instruments was an active partner in the Microfreak. Arturia clarified the language promptly, and Emilie (creator of Mutable Instruments) issued a note on the Mutable Instruments forum saying she had no complaint about their use of her code.

That was one. They made it look like MI was involved in developing the synth, when all they did was download some of the MI code. Shady.

Arturia trademarking the Synthi name was more egregious. Some say outright theft:

  • I'm with @rs2000 — I own both iWavestation and iProphet.

I purchased iProphet because I really missed the joystick on my ancient Yamaha SY synth. I ended-up being really disappointed with iProphet and rarely if ever use it.

He's right. Stick with the Wavestation.

Just because something is on sale, it doesn't mean you need to buy it.

    Wait, wut?

  • Emilie from Mutable was invited by Arturia to discuss the use of her code in their new product. She accepted and attended the meeting at Arturia HQ, right after one of her SRS operations. She was still recovering, didn't talk much at all, and didn't answer any questions. Later, she said Arturia never asked for her input. The public rant was not the way to handle it. People cannot read minds.

I don’t know anything for sure, but I know Dave Spiers has mentioned their name in some frustration on sonic talk. I have no dog in the “fight,” doesnt matter to me. As for the stuff with the microfreak and mutable instruments, I don’t know anything about mutable instruments or their code, but the demos I’ve heard of the microfreak sounded cool.

  • Not updating their buggy software is good enough reason not to buy off them.

I don’t have any desktop apps except the minimoog classic that they gave away a few years ago. I was very frustrated by the bugginess of their minimoog app on ios though, which was ported by retronyms. Both companies were saying the bugs were the fault of the other. I don’t really care which is true, but I don’t use their ios stuff anymore. No need anyway, moog did quite a good version of their own synth.

  • How about this... IF Arturia ever decides to port Pigments to iOS, we can just agree to give them a clean slate, lol. (It seems a bit of a CPU hog from what I hear, so it may not happen anytime soon).

Pigments looks great, but is less filling. That is, kind of meh in terms of sound when stacked against the best. Still, it looks great and sounds good

I’ve not been a fan of Arturia software. The Keystep is great, though.

I can run Pigments inside Ableton, and a bunch of other plugins on a base model, non-retina 2012 MacBook Pro. It’s more resource hungry than some VST’s, but it’s not unusable.

Personally I think their synth collection is outstanding.

Maybe NOT a sales price but still: a new $2 Nembrini App.

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/the-boss-led-diode-distortion/id1507779282

  • Looks like the new Nembrini pedal is their version of the Marshall "The Guv’nor
    " Pedal.

You would think they would have released this BEFORE they released their Marshall amp emulator! 🙄

  • "If you want to be able to dial in that special Marshall amp sound without actually purchasing a Marshall amp, check out The Guv'nor overdrive pedal. This pedal was created in the late 80s to replicate the drive tones of the Marshall Plexi and JCM800 amps. The Guv'nor allows you to control the gain, level, EQ, and sports a loop output for use of other pedals. Famed guitarist Gary Moore used this pedal on his album "Still Got the Blues," speaking to the pedal's ability to build up anything from bluesy tones to stand-out leading tones."

Lots of guitar greats used this pedal (especially Gary Moore) along with their Marshall amps, so I don't feel it's a waste of money or anything.

I mean hell, I just bought it!

    That’s pretty great.
I was gonna ask how’s it sound, but I think I already know.
    Nembrini.

And the AUDIOMODERN bundle is still available with the doscounts. If you have one of the 2, Riffr or Playbeat you could probably get the other one cheap. Cheers.

Yes, I have riffer and just got Playbeat for $1. Thanks!

Go to the Audiomodern bundle that is for sale and open that listing. Scroll all the way to the bottom and all the way back to the top. Bundle should be priced at $1.

Then press up, up, down, down, left, right, b, a, Start and Drambo will make you a sandwich for lunch.

    So?
    How was that sandwich?

I was thinking of ordering one right now.

F drummer. Don’t even use my phone for music much anymore but that was one on my hit list.

    Why?

    Because I got the funk.
