Thanks for the quick reply @LFS

Can I draw your attention to a post I made a few days ago: "Removing a group track mutes audio when it precedes grouped tracks."

Not sure if it was missed amongst all the other posts?

    Cheers!

Drum Pad setting is not remembered for custom MiniSampler instruments

    Hi @blakkaz,

    Thank you for your message.

Your report has been added to our bugbase:

    CBT-1606
Drum Pad setting is not remembered for custom MiniSampler instruments

    Best,
    Lars

Add to that some kind of 'save as/update' to an existing instrument in case a samples are added or the pad-assignments are modified or simply just to create a modified copy of an existing instrument.

I've always found the pads to be a bit senile when mapping samplers to them?!
(Ie. there is no dedicate save/update for the settings that is actually 'remembered').

Another request would to to allow saving of 'chord sets' for later re-use in other projects.
(I've not found anything like that yet?! Maybe I'm 'blind'?).

Hi Lars - is there a way to decide in which way CB3 sorts the IAAs and AUV3s in the list before choosing one?

Cubasis 2 did this in alphabetical order by the name of the developer - and this is the way how my brain is trained since many years - since I use this order in AUM as well ...

In CB3 I noticed that this list is sorted by the name of the app/plug-in ... which is quite confusing for me - since I usually have a workflow like:

ok - I want the delay of AudioDamage or the delay of Nembrini - so I look up for the Developer and then choose the plugin - but I rarely remember the precise name of the plugin itself ...

Would be great if there would be a way to choose between - alphabetical order by 1.) name of the developer 2.) name of the app/auv3 - or is it there already and I am just not finding it?

  • Dear all,

Please note that we've released Cubasis LE 3.0.3 today, which resolves a problem, where the installation of the Cubasis LE 3 Full Feature Set in-app purchase fails under certain circumstances.

    Stay well
    & have a good weekend,

I hate when apps sort by developer. I personally hope it stays alphabetic or preferably has a switchable option.

  • Hi Lars,

ist ist possible to make a bulk import of audiofiles from f.ex. AudioShare or Dropbox, If yes, is it’s possible to direct the files to a folder of your own choice? Importing files one by one is a hassle.

    Best regards Rob

I am on the fence about purchasing CB3 at the moment - and just noticed that Cubasis3 is not yet ready for supporting AUV3 sidechaining -

Is this something which is planned to get implemented in the near future (like 6-12 months) or not at all or just eventually?

For the time being, you can use 4Pockets SidechainFX. It works within CB3.

    Hi Rob,

Sure this should work without any problem.
Did not check with AudioShare, but Dropbox works.

Please give the Files app a try as well, easily possible here too.

    Best,
    Lars

  • Thanks,

Yes the files app is great.

I found a bug. If you import a midi file and want to move it to an existing midi track, this is not possible. Instead Cubasis creates a new track, which is a hassle if you already have a midi track with an instrument (plugin) and|or effects.

    Regards

  • Am I missing something or is there no way to designate a track as mono or stereo? If I make an audio track and assign one input but then add an auv3 that is stereo my output is stereo. So if I freeze the track for example, I get a stereo file. In Auria when you create a track it asks whether you want mono or stereo, I can add the same auv3 and it remains mono.

It's a 'missing feature' same applies if you do a mono recording and freeze the track, it will always be converted to 'stereo' even if no effects are used...

The built-in audio editor is also missing a simple (Keep Left, Keep Right and Mono Mix).

Every time I start to look at the missing features I get emotionally upset over missing 'no brainer features' that are likely very easy to implement but mostly 'ducked' when people ask for them referring to it's on the list, and cost implementation etc. etc.

Hopefully @LFS and his team will focus a bit more on advanced audio editing/manipulation tools in the future updates to bring back the fun for 'geeks' who want to mangle sounds :)

Even the GarageBand sampler is more fun to use that the Cubasis MiniSampler.
It's more hands on without additional steps to save the sounds, drag to yada yada yada, so the Cubase Sampler Track for Cubasis would fill that gap easily with automatic freeze/render of the audio or midi-event that is dragged onto the sampler track...

But back to the topic, You're not missing anything, it's simply not there yet :D

    Hi @marcuspresident,

Thank you for your message, which I've shared with Satoshi from iceGear.
Here is his feeedback: "I couldn't reproduce the problem on my device(iPad Pro 11, iOS13.4, Cubasis3.0.2)

Gave it a short check myself using the iPad Pro 12.9" 1st Gen, where things work as expected too (Short MIDI project with Lagrange and other instruments, performance fine, project loading/reloading worked as expected).

If the problem persists, please let us have more details about the issue.

    Best,

  • Hi all,

Due to having recieved many user reports in regard to Cubasis performance issues, we've released a dedicated article in the Steinberg forum.

Please find it pasted here as well.

    Please stay safe and sound!

    Cubasis 3 Performance Issues

    Dear all,

With the release of Cubasis 3 we have received many forum posts from users, who complaint about the performance of the app.

Please note that the overall performance of Cubasis depends on various factors, such as the processor, available RAM and free hard disk space of your iPad, as well as the sample rate setting, hardware latency setting, and the number of tracks, instruments and effects used in your project.

Alongside, using third party instrument and effect apps in or next to Cubasis, can have significant impact on the iOS devices' performance and easily lead to serious performance problems and/or crashes of the app, depending on the number and performance demand of the apps used.

    A few observations:
    • Older devices obviously reach their capacities substantially faster than current models
    • CPU-demanding 3rd party instrument and/or effect apps significantly increase the system load and decrease the responsiveness
    • Running multiple audio apps in parallel or connecting apps via Audio Unit, Inter-App Audio and/or Audiobus increase the system load drastically
    • Lower hardware latency values can aggravate the problem, while higher values can help to reduce the system load

    Important:
If you encounter problems, we recommend to open the "System Info" (last tab in the inspector), and start the project playback.
If you encounter CPU or DSP spikes, read on to learn how to easily get around these issues.

Cubasis offers many options and possibilities to avoid performance problems:
    • Reduce the number of 3rd party instruments and/or effect plug-ins used in the project
    • When using Micrologue, reduce its polyphony. If an AU instrument has a polyphony or performance setting, try to tweak it for maximum performance
    • Use Track Freeze to render CPU/DSP demanding 3rd party instrument and/or effect plug-in tracks into audio tracks
    • Where possible, insert third party effect plug-ins as send effects, to use a single plug-in for various tracks at once
    • Choose a higher Latency Hardware value in the setup
    • Please check if enabling Background Audio solves issues when using 3rd party apps with Cubasis
    • Please check if launching 3rd party apps first, before loading them with Cubasis helps to improve the situation
    • Make sure there are several GB (ideally more than 20%) of free disk space available. Disk performance is reduced if the disk space is close to full
    • Quit all audio and non-audio apps by double tapping the home button and swiping them up
    • Reboot your iPhone and iPad devices from time to time*
    • Find a good balance of instruments and sounds that does not stress the CPU too much

Please note that these limitations are inherent to iOS, and common to other comparable DAWs as well, and most of the time unrelated to Cubasis.

We hope these steps are helpful to keep the performance of your iPad powerful, while putting your focus on making great music with Cubasis!

    Best,
    Lars

*Older devices: Holding down the home and power button for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Newer devices: Hold the power button and "Slide to power off”, then wait and press the power button again for a few seconds to restart the iOS device.

Hi, just for your reference, I am currently working on a mix in Cubasis 3 on an iPad Pro 12.9 2018, 1Tb, with plenty of free storage (2/3). All 32 tracks are audio tracks (24bit/48kHz). At this early stage of the mix I have 36 auv3 instances, mostly ff proq3's, some compressors, amp simulator, etc.. (all 3rd party) loaded. The CPU reading is around 2% and the DSP is between 20-30%. The hardware latency is at the max. setting.
In other words, performance seems quite promising in this application. Obviously, I will be adding more plugin instances to my mix, but so far things seems good, and stable.

Hi Lars - I asked two weeks ago - may I put a reminder of this topic here.

Are there any plans for a switchable order or even a search function - as AUM does offer it?

After my recent upgrade and having read the tread at Steinberg.net I am confused if I am entitled to transfer of my plug-ins from Cubasis2. I originally bought Cubasis2 and most of the plug-ins. Today I downloaded Cubasis3 LE and after trying it out and unlocking it with my Irig pads I decided to take advantage of the current upgrade sale to the full version of Cubasis3. Now I am trying to transfer over my plug-in purchases from Cubasis2. I never get the prompt telling me to click on Transfer which is suppose to send me to Cubasis2 to commence the transfer. I have also rebooted my iPad and logged out and log back in to the original account where both bases two and three were purchased. Any help would be appreciated @LFS
