Just tried it; added some percussion to the AB jam. How do you export the stems? Is that a paid feature?

Ah, found it. Click the right arrow to go to the riffs page; export button near the top. Would have been nice if that were in the FAQ.

  • This app is dangerous. It reminds of when I installed Second Life way back when that first came out. I got addicted and would spend many hours at a time on it. I had to go cold turkey and uninstall it.

This app is the same problem for me. Not good for addictive personalities, maybe.

@timexile will love this observation as he purposely included game dynamics ("multi-player music making") in the Endlesss marketing.

  • I'm having a totally different experience with Endlesss. Not good, unfortunately. Maybe it's a hardware issue (iPhone 8, iOS 13.x), but the timing is always off.

Example: I can't even record a 4-on-the-floor kick riff without one of the hits delaying. I tap it in perfect time on my phone's touchscreen, but it doesn't record accurately.

Anyone else? Any advice? Is there a setting somewhere?

  • I’ve found the sensitivity of the pads to be fiddly sometimes too. I’ve found that a lighter touch can work better. Keeping the screen clean has helped too.

Yeah, but I’m not gonna subscribe to a game. If he puts in audio connectivity, maybe. I want to be able to send in audio from AUM, or at least upload a loop. I also want direct audio output into AUM. I might subscribe for that.

I can’t say for sure but that seems to be a bit beyond the goals of this app. It seems to be more about spontaneous, collaborative efforts rather than just another vehicle with which to write a full song.

If you are having trouble with 4 to floor go in to quantize settings and switch step setting to 1/4

  • @pete12000 What @RedSkyLullaby said. Also watch the little beat marker moving. And don’t use wireless headphones, I tried once and it makes everything much harder.

Sure, but without audio in it’s a toy. When I jam with my sax player, I don’t want to hear him blowing into his iPhone mic. I want to hear him with his good mic, through a proper interface. I want to hear him through his normal fx stack, which is all ios. Same for guitarists and bassists.

It’s a great start, but without proper audio interfacing it won’t last. Has any iOS music app that lacked connectivity ever been successful? I can’t think of one.

  • +1 on more robust ways of getting audio in. Would be a gamechanger (TM)

That said, I'm enjoying recording random crap around the house with the internal mic (including a second Ableton Linked ios device)

I guess it depends on the purpose of the app. If the purpose is to actually compose songs that are meant for public consumption, sure.

But it’s pretty obvious to me that that’s not what it’s meant to be. The overall setup does actually seem to be closer to that of a “toy” though I think that word has a negative connotation here.

I’d be curious to hear from the dev what their overall vision is. My guess is that you are just looking to use this in ways that are beyond the vision of this app.

It's interesting to me that people consider something a "toy" if it isn't in service of a song for public consumption. I guess capitalism completely swallowed music, after all.

But I was using my audio interface set up to play into it, last night, it was insane. What are you lacking exactly?

It was stated a couple of times above that having to set up an interface between two devices is a hassle. For what it's worth, I can see the point. There are times I can't be bothered. On the other hand, if you really want to jam with your signature stuff then it's prolly worth it to you! It's all about the jam in my opinion. Some really good musicians on Endlesss. I am inspired by their artistry.

Don’t you have to have an interface to play any instrument into an iOS device? That’s not an Endless limitation.

Not acoustic ones! Yes, I use my pro condenser mics into an interface when I need something pristine but the onboard mic can do in a pinch if you work at it a bit. There are plenty of YouTube videos out there of people making impressive sounding tunes using just an iOS device. But your point is certainly valid for anything electric.

The only interface I use regularly on my iPad or has any portability is a mono in stereo out interface (iRig HD 2).

I so wish there were AB support in Endless so that I could pipe audio from one of my soft synths running in the background into Endless.

Ah thanks! It has better input than I realized. It still needs to be able to talk to other apps though. I use my iPad as my fx stack for my acoustic instruments.

Stereo recording would be awesome... (cough, not sure anyone has mentioned that yet ;) )

I think they’d benefit most from a simple desktop app. It’s not a problem for me cause I have two iPads so if I want to play I can just plug my interface into one device and plug the iPad into my interface like I usually do anyway. This works great if you have an iPad and an iPhone too. Shame for a whole device to be used to run one simple app when most people have a computer and interface which they record their iPads/instruments with already

I really like the album. It's beautiful.

I second that! I've interacted a lot with @badrico and he is a top-notch fellow and musician, and I'm sure I've run into the other two, as well. Can't wait to listen!

Regarding connectivity, I'm using 2 iPads, one running Endlesss and the other with my full AUM setup sending audio between using a little Focusrite iTrack Pocket interface that I had laying around. Works great and really expands my ability to contribute unique sounds to the app. I would also like to see AB support or AUv3 hosting come to the app (and yes, stereo audio as noted above), but am truly enamored with Endlesss as it is. I have long hated the word "jam" and usually like to work alone with carefully orchestrated parts but this really opens up new opportunities, expands my musical horizons as I get to play in so many different styles and it sure is nice to interact with people musically again, especially given the current situation.
