I haven’t bought it yet (or read the whole thread, sry) and am wondering if switching mute patterns can be automated in BM3?

The current build can't do it but the 1.0.2 update will make that possible.

    Sweet!

Actually being able to switch them via notes would be great as NS2 can send notes to AU fx. It works for pattern switching for Looperator, Effectrix and Turnado. Very very handy given that NS2 does not automate AU fx parameters yet any other way.

    Hi.
    I noticed something strange.
If I set 2 instances to control the same channel, the fade times in each instance remain independent.
I would think they would link together.
Are both fade times actually effecting the output, and if so, how are they mixed?

That is intentional, simply for added flexibility.
Internally, the audio isn't mixed, it's still the individual instances processing whatever goes through them, though if you wish each with different fade times.

    Edit:
    I think I found a bug.
The trigger sequencer seems to skip step 2 on the first cycle.
It doesn’t skip it after that, but the sequencer is offset from the host as a result of the skipped step.
This is with Pattern Src set to Seq, and Pattern Dir set to Fwd.

Yeah, that's a bug, it's fixed in 1.0.2 which is currently waiting for review, should be out by tomorrow.

Oh yeah, I think I figured out the fade time thing I was originally wondering about. The fades are independent, and each sets the fade time for the source entering that instance. But the mute pattern affects all instances assigned to the same channel.
It is really cool that it is set up to work that way.

Oh, you figured it out already, I should've read the full comment before replying... ;)

As far as I can tell, each channel is limited to ON or OFF states, with configurable fades between them. It would be nice if each channel could have a configurable minimum volume, so that OFF was actually MIN. That way it could fade down to or up from a lower volume without actually muring the channel entirely, which would be nice for more relaxed or ambient pieces.

    Could be interesting.

If you put together a solid drum machine, between that and Shockwave, you will own my low end. If they launch with Universal, I will send you a cookie bouquet.

    Noted! :)

Experimenting with crossfading two sine waves tuned a fifth apart, then a single sine wave fading in and out. Finding the result quite noisy. The click when fade time set to zero is expected but with a fade it's like I'm getting a series of little discontinuities in the scaling. Anyone replicate this?

Yup I can, fixed it right away.

Thank you for being so very responsive. 😊
This app is really great, and really brings a new dynamic to modular, DAWless jams.

  • Man, I have to say, this brings my AUM jams to a whole new level! Great job! Triggering patterns by notes would indeed be a major step forward, the possibilities are huge.
I would buy this app a second or third time if I could!

Thank you, that's what I was going for! :D

  • I asked earlier but it might have got missed. Has anyone tried capturing the mutes in a DAW automation track for later editing?

Note triggers shouldn't be too hard to add, just need to figure out a UI for setting it up.

The channel mutes (buttons) aren't exposed as AUParameters so automating them that way wont work but they are MIDI mappable now so maybe that'll help.

  • The 1.0.2 update should be live now, here's what's included:

    • Added MIDI Mapping
    • Active Pattern control is now exposed as an AUParameter and can be midi mapped as well
    • Fixed an issue where resetting the trigger sequencer would cause it to skip the first step in some cases
    • Fixed an issue where the KEY/MIDI source for chance and divide module would not work
    • Fixed an issue where setting the pattern change direction to pendulum would have no effect

Awesome thanks, looking forward to trying in a bit. 😀

This is what I've been waiting for. INSTAPURCHASE. Boom. Thanks Kai. This is one of the most innovative apps I've seen. Quite brilliant. And makes AUM (and any AU host) a performance-oriented environment.

    hey Kai,

With pads 3-6, I click on them with MIDI LEARN enabled and nothing happens. (1 and 2 has a pop up box with the usual midi cc assign function)

Also - any plans to introduce the ability to sync with the tempo/clock of the host, so that the channels mute/unmute in time with the beat?

  • @jameslondon74 that ability is already there! You just set bpm as the channel change source.

  • @Gavinski said:

But I still use the pads to trigger channel mutes manually? And it's in time?

    I don't think that's right.

For example - Ch1 is active, and I want to hit Ch2 but have it come in on the start of the next bar.

  • Is it me, or is Fade OUT way longer than Fade IN? Be great to have a nice long fade in too? Or a separate Fade In and Out?

  • so cool, excited for that midi update. also excited for the iphone version when it gets out there, i’m sure i’ll use it more on my iphone than ipad.

No need anymore for triggering midi patterns in xox...amazing app

  • It's really a useful sound utility. I think this is one that I might consider buying for desktop too.

Ah, i understand now, no it doesn't have that feature currently I think, if I remember right

Well, I hate to ruin the party but I'm disappointed...

    • Not fan of the knobs action - active pattern and last pattern both have 8 divisions, a tiny movement of the first and it's usually already too much, while the second needs several tap&drag for full travel
    • Fades are just not musical at all, I'd like to hear the decay of a drum part but then there is no transient, short fades resulting clicks...
    • I was hoping that it's going to work well in a jamming scenario, but in order to program it you have to stop host in most cases
    • Active pattern stays wherever you stop playback, so you have to dial it back unless you're fine with random

So all in all unless the whole session is designed around this plugin it's more of a distraction for me at its current state and can't see myself using it.
I hope I'm alone with this...

I’m really enjoying it, but I agree with you here.

At the moment It'll only let you map the channels that have an instance assigned, e.g the ones you can toggle. It's a bit of an oversight on my end and will be fixed with the next update.

Also - any plans to introduce the ability to sync with the tempo/clock of the host, so that the channels mute/unmute in time with the beat?

Well, the sequencer always syncs to the host tempo, so do the utility modules with their source control set to BPM.

Oh, thats what you meant, no it doesn't do that at the moment, could be interesting for a future update though.

I'm noticing this too, glad it's on fix list.

Once fixed, I'll use this app for sound design.

I think MM1 adds a nice new layer of potential to the AU-v3 App universe.
