Not really a groovebox person (although I have GR-16 and the Bleass one) but I’ve noticed the Icegear demos always sound like groovebox kind of material - even though their synths don’t make obvious groovebox sounds.

So I voted for Icegear/Iceworks. I love their synths and I’d love to see what they can do.

One of Icegear's first apps was a cool little groovebox called Xenon.

It would certainly be interesting to see a new Icegear combo with a mix of their synths.

It's not available anymore but here is the manual for that old app....

  • A moog groovebox 😍

  • @klownshed That's definitely planned for Drambo but it will take a while.
My best bet today if you really want to compose inside AUM (I wouldn't) is BeatHawk with its rather full-spec pattern and automation editor plus a MIDI clip launcher plus song mode.
Still nothing touching it in the AUv3 world, surprisingly.

Song mode in Drambo is a simple chain of patterns.
You can set the length and cycles for each pattern so play in sequence but that's about it atm.

    .

  • dang spooky that’s pretty rad never knew that once existed. looks a bit like caustic with its own twist

  • Drambo is a bit too big for me. There’s too much going on to really be accessible as a groovebox. For me, something like Pure Acid is ideal. I don’t have to build anything. I just tweak what’s there and build my tunes quick and easy. I also dislike Drambo’s sequencer.

I also do definitely see a difference between a groovebox and a modular DAW like several have mentioned with AUM. Sure I could put a bunch of stuff together and build my own thing, but that’s really not the point of a groovebox app. Having something prepackaged with just enough options to be fun without being cumbersome is the name of the game. I mean that really is the Apple way.

  • We need a groove box that has a modular interface. And by modular interface, I mean, customizable to take on the appearance of different midi controllers to give a more seamless workflow.

I think a groove box paired with a small midi controller to where the interface looks like the controller would make it more fluid and feel more like a piece of hardware.

OK, got it. Being accessible is a fair point.

    @TheAudioDabbler
I've been trying to convince @giku_beepstreet to do exactly that 😉

  • @rs2000 i hope someone can or will.

Think about the Ableton push 2. Watching people work with it, they can just get so much done, quickly.

Taking that same concept but on iOS, with all of the amazing midi controllers that are out there. It would be game changing. And being able to move the interface around so that it looks like your midi controller, would make it feel so much more.

  • The groovebox I’ve found to be the most immediate and have the least friction is Ampify Groovebox.

I like the fact it’s designed for the iPad and iPhone and isn’t trying to recreate a hardware device complete with artificial UI limitations.

It’s so simple there’s no messing you just get straight to making tunes.

It’s definitely limited but that’s not such a bad thing when it comes to instant gratification.

I’d use it a ton more if it could export directly to BlocsWave. I can see why they left BlocsWave export out as you can easily make a song that won’t fit into the blocs format.

You can export stems though so that’s cool.

I like the ampify apps. They’re simple but have a lot of hidden depth.

BlocsWave is one of my favourite iOS apps.

I hope new Icegear's groovebox called Xenon2 or Xenon tetrafluoride <3

  • Sugar Bytes already made it and they just need to port it.

  • On behalf of Audiokit Pro, I vote that we don't need anymore Grooveboxes. 😂

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Drambo isn't quite there for me. It's close, but it needs supports for triplets, polyrhythms, better song mode, and more flexibility with gate length. Add those and I'm done. Add a piano roll option and I'm in heaven. Add granular/spectral/analog modelled filters... and I'm not sure I'd need anything else.

  • We already have it.
    DRAMBO.

    👊🏼™️💕

    That is just amazing 🤯
Thank you for this. Sounds fantastic. Throw in a few Scene changes and you’ve given us an instant all night Rave my friend. 🙏🏼💕

Thanks for showing off the power and flexibility of Drambo. 😉
Posted it on the Drambo forums as well sir:

The best GrooveBox on iOS has already been made... just needs a great update.. Groove Rider GR-16..

I wish @jimpavloff would accept our feature requests and update .
we've been begging for simple things like Mappable midi mute for months

I think he will... Auv3... Can you imagine just having 'One' Channel running 'Bass', with all it glory (Piano-Roll included)..
Not even Maschine/Ableton Live has the features that this Gem has...
    Good Morning @jimpavloff

  • I have an idea for the ultimate groove box...part of it is on it’s way to my house.

It was one of my first iOS Grooveboxes. Just don't know which one was the first... Xenon, Bleep!box or Electrify

Not sure if we need another one. But i'd vote for iElectribe to be inside Gadget

  • If you dig grooveboxes, I would say... Don't sleep on these:

    • Triq Traq
    • iMaschine
    • Forever Beats (may not be downloadable. Not sure right now)
    • Touchscaper
    • Elastic Drums
    • Dot Melody
    • Caustic 3 (more of a All-in-one/DAW-ish)

Special Mention: KDJ-One (have it, but never played

Of course it all depends on the phylosophical question of "What is a groovebox?"

Triq Traq is low key awesome. I do wish it supported other files besides 44k or at least could convert though because it doesn’t get along well with my iPhone 11 that’s locked at 48k

I don't think we need another standalone Groovebox. We have enough tools and components to this in a modular way in AUM.

Pre-drambo, I used StepBud (melodic step sequencing), Rozeta (arps, drums, chords, basslines), and Poly2 (polyrhythmic drums) to put this together.

With Drambo, you can do a lot of this, just by using it as a sequencer and not even using any of synth or sampler components.

I just want certain IAA to be AU to make my dreams come true but I'm convincing myself that's not a must.

It’s still a lovely groovebox, and beautifully designed.

  • A port of DFAM from Moog would be nice. Add multiples to taste. Although I guess a big part of the appeal is the physicality of the interaction. Nevertheless gets my vote.
