It's not usable at all! But the slicing and editing is good and simple and intuitive. It's a shame that it was trapped within an ugly gorilla app.
I haven’t been following ever post but if this is a sample slicer then I would have thought trim and normalize were essential if this app is also going to be used to play those sampled slices. Otherwise, are we saying the workflow is slice up your sample in EG slicer, export the samples to BM3/Audioshare/Auditor etc. to trim and normalize, import back into EG slider to play and record? That doesn’t make a lot of sense to me if that’s what we’re talking about?
@gusgranite the workflow should be to import a loop/sample/audio -> slice it -> play slices using the triggering mode & effects & features of the app...
You don't need to trim or cut anything since the slices can be moved anywhere, with variable length/start point/attack time & release time.
If you're gonna import a 40 minutes audio file and you think you will need only the first 30 seconds you can however trim it before importing the file
Am I missing some particular workflow maybe? Help me thinking about
Maybe the next app from @brambos ? Oubliette - the Audiobus forum timeout.
Unless I’m mistaken I think one of the concerns re the trimming is to get rid of unwanted cracks and pops at the start and end of a slice. Some sample slicers have a slope over a very short period of time to soften/ get rid of them - is this what your attack and release time is aimed at?
@robosardine yes. Also there's a slice to zero crossing option for that
I have an idea - add the 'trim jobbie' as an IAP? Hey? Caller?
I brought this up earlier; I think a workflow you are missing is:
This allows you to explore a sample on the fly, seeing what works for your track.
This is the flow of an MPC or Serato or Maschine. Maybe none of the beta testers make music that way? Or maybe they do and this is exactly the workflow covered by the app?!
The app looks incredible, and it really hits a sweet spot, and @ElliottGarage is indefatigable as a developer, so I'm all in.
If you need to remove a particular section of a sample, put markers around it, and don't play that slice, if you need to change the start or length of a slice EG already explained that each slice has start and length.
You certainly don't really want to be loading a full song in to a realtime instrument on iOS, this is not 32gb RAM desktop territory, so use Auditor, why Auditor ? Because Apple Loops, something that Auditor is superb at making.
It is easy to start throwing the kitchen sink at it, but what is desperately needed on iOS is a rapid simple style slicing and keys based sampler, not Kontakt.
That sounds totally reasonable and perfect.

Cuts Hit Up
Sounds good! Thanks for explaining.
@ElliottGarage
Anticipating!
Any ETA?
@ExAsperis99 @Turntablist the app looks fantastic and I am sure it does what it does extremely well
this has just been a major sticking point for me for ALL slicer apps, it is how I make music. With sampling records, I often don't have everything worked out in my head before creating, so I work through the sample finding all the lovely bits. If I can't be triggering the lovely bits to see how they sound together, I am not going to get where I want to go as quickly, or at all.
Just about the only reason 'Trim/Crop' would be needed is to cut out the slack from recorded audio before saving a preset...
During testing I've found it faster to use the recorder in AUM to create perfect loops and then import them into EG Slicer via it's document-picker or using drag-n-drop from Files.app pop-over.
@ExAsperis99 @Turntablist @ElliottGarage but I am still excited for this one. It clearly offers some new tools and you're right, there should be workarounds to take it where I want to go
I've been thinking about this a bit more .... not being much of a "samplist" as a preface:
It seems odd that I'd be able to sample in to an app and then have to switch to another app to trim and do basic edits.
Unless I'm wrong and you cannot sample in to the EG Slicer and its just for loading and playing samples. At which point I think ... ok ... I already have Egoist so why do I need this?
I'm not trying to be deliberately provocative, just trying to suss out what this does for me.
yes, not that I would insist on such a feature,, I am not sure why the facility to put the app in an fx slot and sample from other apps/inputs would be there if you couldn’t at least trim the slack off those recordings and save space in the app
UNLESS the app has a really really good ‘threshold’ record start implementation to cover that bit whilst you switch back to the other app to start/trigger the sounds you want to sample.. but thats not always accurate.
Still, I am actually unusually impatient to get my ‘Lastic Bands’ on this one and the ‘record in’ sampling will most likely be a fraction of any usage for me.. Mr Elliott ,, yr call, obvs.. but memory space isn’t a luxury we always have..
I would join the voice of trim/crop for the shake of a neat workflow.
What was the name again: EG Trimr?
No one is bothering about the details any more - you can use your own samples in this one 😄
For me it's not a case of wanting to trim and edit. I want to record into it, slice up my recording and then play it like an instrument. It's what BM3 can do and Blocs Wave sort of does, but I've been waiting eagerly for an AU3 app that does it simply and swiftly.
If you think of it, like I do, as a performance instrument, then it's not necessarily about the slices being neat, the rough edges only add to the possibilities when you're playing. EG Pulse was tantalising in what it could do (live record and slice to pads), this seems like a really welcome expansion of those abilities.

Nice one😂😂😂
EG hack-n-slash stands alone 🙌🏼
(You can even sample on the fly. @ElliottGarage did everything right. No one is bothering with Chomplr anymore 🙈
was the name ever chosen? I’m excited to see who the winner was. also very excited for the app, hope it come
Chomplr buried before being born🤘
ohh really? what happened to chomplr?
Ah well I guess that's it then, performance instrument. If this is the design and use for it then it will probably have limited use for me. Recording those "performances" (for me all in studio) ... I dunno. I've looked at Reslice and thought , "What is this even for?" so maybe it's just not built for with me in mind. I dunno.
My use for it would be - Record in from mic or external synth, trim that sample so it can be played without crazy artifacts/glitches, record that performance, drop in another prog (timeline).
betatwsters:
what about the timestretch?!
that is a forte point...
In the manual it seems that is written that it can not import user samples
