You are correct, I hear them. It's funny I haven't come across many like that yet, I mostly hear triadic harmony. I usually take what's generated and add and delete notes so it's not a huge deal. How about a slider to weight things toward triads on one end (or even less notes, maybe just melody notes) to the other extreme where things get jazzed up? This would allow the user to be a little more specific about what they're looking for. Thanks again!!!
@azul3D_Apps thanks that’s great to know.
Version 1.7 of Piano Motifs is available for download!
This version brings a new feature requested in the forum, the ability to go down to 20bpm!
To enable this feature go to the settings button and enable Extended BPM.
Enjoy!

Great idea
Fantastic! So glad I got this app.
@azul3D_Apps Congrats on the latest version! It's great to see good apps get better through thoughtful development...
Yessssssssss Thank you @azul3D_Apps
Thanks for listening! Thanks for the update! Thanks for being here in the forums 👊🏼🙃
@azul3D_Apps : Excellent! Thank you
Great news about the BPM. @azul3D_Apps. I’m still finding the controls in the app quite frustrating that the keep disappearing when the motif is playing. If I hear something I instantly like, I want to be able to share it but the menu not there until it stops playing. Is there anyway all the options ie play stop start skip, share, settings etc can be shown all the time ?
That has been answered before, the audio is generated on-the-fly and not ready for sharing until the motif has played. I guess the alternative would be to have an initial wait period which would generate the result first. If this takes time it could be annoying.
Thanks for the update!
Yes especially when the bpm is down to 20 the motif could take 5 mins to play !
@Jumpercollins unfortunately @azul3D_Apps said that can’t be done with out erasing the audio. Which would be ok with me cause I only export the midi anyways but some people like to keep the audio.
@Jumpercollins,
@bleep and @Poppadocrock are correct. A halfway solution would be to add the ability to skip when a new motif is being generated, but only being able to export MIDI. This could be applied also when you are replaying a motif you have previously saved on your device.
@azul3D_Apps I’m not sure if this is doable in this case but What if you put up a failsafe pop up thing that says you can skip but audio will be deleted. So if they just want to move on they can and audio is deleted, but if they want audio they will have to wait.Just an idea.
@azul3D_Apps Lol. I did not read your most recent message. you are basically saying the same thing
Is it possible when you pick a root note, scale type and time signature that this setting sticks until you manually change it instead of resetting and going back to generating the next motif in a new random key, root note etc? I often like to generate several motifs in the same key/scale to find things to combine together. As it is now you have to reset the key/scale/time sig each time before you generate a new motif.
More scales/modes and time signatures and the ability to share more than one file at a time would be nice too.
I came across one quirk but I haven’t been able to duplicate it since it happened. I twice generated a motif in A Dorian which is a minor mode derived from the G major scale so the motif should have had a minor sound but it definitely had a major key sound not minor.. This happened twice in a row but after I quit PM and reopened it, it’s been fine ever since.
Sorry for all of my feature requests! I’m really enjoying PM and use it all the time.
You should definitely raise the price or add some IAPs for new features. Thanks!
What @yowza reports above is the biggest annoyance left with the app in my use cases. It would be great if those settings could become the "default" until the user changes them again. Thanks for listening!
@yowza, good suggestion, you will see this in the next revision.
On the Dorian scale mode, I found that there is a couple of chord progressions that don't include the tonic (I) chord which is a minor chord in this scale. As you probably know the Dorian scale mode has major chords on III, IV and VII. These progressions were making use of only these chords, which would definitely give it a major sound. They will be modified in the next revision.
Thanks!! Yes A Dorian has the three major chords from G major (G C and D)
One little modal chord trick I picked up from somewhere, maybe Guitar Player magazine, is to bring out the sound of any of the modes derived from a major scale, alternate playing the IV and V chords from the MAJOR key (in this key the C and D major triads) while simultaneously emphasizing a lower bass note of the mode you want to hear so emphasize the A bass under the C and D triads to hear A Dorian mode, emphasize the B bass note to hear B Phrygian, C bass note for C Lydian and so forth, all modes derived from the key of G major.
Sorry for geeking out on the chords!
Thank you so much for listening!
This is a lovely mobile tool, thank you. I also have an iPod Touch stuck on iOS 12. Is there any way you can make this app compatible with older OS’s?
@youza, interesting trick. There’s so many approaches to creating music. It’s a continuous learning process.
BTW, it’s fun to geek out on chords 😀
@Keebo, I would love to have the bandwidth to offer support for older OS’s, but unfortunately it’s not possible right now 😕
Totally understandable. Thank you.
A significant update to Piano Motifs is coming soon! It includes new features that have been requested by users in this forum. Thanks a lot for your feedback, it will only make the app better.
great work !!
thank you
Wonderful! Thx for listening.
Wow. What an app, I can’t help but flush out a high percentage of Piano Motifs, that I create, into more detailed tracks.
Cheers to @azul3D_Apps for being so helpful on this forum, and continuing to evolve the app.
@azul3D_Apps impressive stuff. AND an app that leads to lots of flat out fun...
Wow, good stuff! Great dev ❤️
