Not exactly sure how Apple are defining relevance when they sometimes make me scroll through 20 or 30 apps with different names to find the sole one whose name matches my search term...

    • Fixed some Dorian chord progressions that contained Major chords only.

    Is that a bad thing?

Well, Dorian is a minor mode and if the root minor chord of the Dorian mode is never played at all it sounds major. I came across a few of those Dorian chord progressions that definitely sounded major because no minor chords were played at all much less the Dorian root minor chord. If something is supposed to be Dorian I want it to sound that way. First world problem I know.

This easily solved by adding an appropriate bass note. For example, alternate F and Eb major triads over a C bass and you have C Dorian.

Of course, I know that because I happen to know modes very well and mentioned this to Fernando however to get the Dorian sound would require adding the extra bass note which you can’t do inside this app only. You’d have to export somewhere else and add the bass note. I didn’t try that so maybe the melody notes wouldn’t have resolved the way they might if the Dorian root chord was played. Anyone who doesn’t know modal theory might get confused because the melodies definitely sounded major not minor. I noticed it right away and only mentioned it because I thought it was a bug. He replied there were only a few chord progressions like that so not a huge deal (to me) either way.

Would be great! Yes, you could have an option maybe where you could choose to export the midi or audio without the hanging last note, just let it cut off once it has reached 8 bars. Maybe call it 'export loopable audio / midi'. This would be an extremely popular update I think! Also so happy you implemented the choose octave range feature I suggested, two thumbs up once again Fernando.

I bought this yesterday I like it, a little sparse( lots of space) on the settings front but ok. I would agree with Gavinski on the loop, 4 or 8 or even 16, the last hanging note confused me a little bit, though is rather nice in its own way! I sent the audio to AudioShare and there was a delay when in loop mode at the start! I zoomed in to look and there’s a delay! I couldn’t rectify this, probably because I haven’t got a clue how to! Anyway well done for knocking this one up!

I noticed this too, but when you look at the corresponding MIDI, there’s a gap there too, even though all the notes align to beat boundaries. I’m assuming that this is by intent. If you edit the MIDI and add a note in that opening gap, then send the MIDI to a synth and record it, there won’t be a beginning gap in the audio. I’m having a different problem. When i specified a minor key for the motif to generate, it seems not to honor that, although I may be misunderstanding how to set it up.

  • I’m not sure everyone is so eager to spend more money but I also think @azul3D_Apps deserves credit where credit is due, for creating an amazing app. However with that said an IAP that brings a new functionality would be cool (AUv3, mentioned above) Some apps have IAP donations as an option. They are usually listed “buy me a coffee $00.99“ or something like that, can’t hurt to add something like that.

Seriously... I know, It feels like it’s been happening more as of late also.

I’m certainly up (down?) for that.
It is a great little app and would really like to compensate azul more for all of the work being put into it.

  • There's a lot of very clever automatic composition working going on in this app.
I'd love to hear longer segments of music created by it and would pay for longer
play/save options. Maybe let the user hear longer demos and elect to pay to save the Audio/MIDI results vi IAP upgrades.

  • Yea with multiple parts. It be cool if you could choose a song structure like verse chorus bridge chorus, and it would create multiple parts in same key. Just a thought.

  • Yes X the previous three :)

  • Man I’ve been ignoring this but there’s a lot of posts here from esteemed users. I GUESS i can spare a couple bucks

  • i would gladly pay for more features in this app. its a very cool app indeed.

  • Destined to become one of my most used apps I think

  • A motif with an upcoming new feature. @yowza should recognize what it is :)

  • So what is the total playback time for this?
Can it be run for 10 mins for eg?

You might want to check out Spliqs if you want longer songs.

Piano Motifs generates motifs not whole songs and each motif is around 30 seconds or shorter. I generate a bunch in the same key or compatible keys one after another and export the MIDI files to other apps and they often work surprisingly well together. I've just started exporting them to Spliqs to extrapolate them further.

My next feature request is the ability to export multiple files all at once rather than one at a time. This is a great little app!

  • @azul3D_Apps is that swing I hear?

@mayo as @yowza explained motifs go from 15 secs to approx 30 secs in length (longer in extended bpm mode, that goes down to 20 bpm). I’m glad @yowza has had success stitching motifs together! Eventually, for longer pieces the internal algorithms would need to be revamped so they have musical structures like intro, chorus and verses that can be more cohesive. This is definitely something that will be investigated for future releases.

  • @azul3D_Apps keep up the good work. This app has been such a great addition :)

I’m amazed at the quality of the motifs this app produces, very human and catchy. So many features added since I first bought it, too - huge thanks to the developer 🙏

Here’s a motif in D minor which I dissected in Drambo and Spacecraft, got a lot of value from one sample!

  • Thanks - I can definitely cope with smaller chunks @azul3D_Apps - just curios of the length.
Updated to IOS 13 - so will grab this app.

Why though when I import one of these into Photon is it coming up as 2 tracks? After I import it and try to load, it asks me which track I want to import? And each track has a different number of beats and a different number of notes? Anyone understand what is going on?

Photon is a difficult beast to master. I believe the real purpose of Photon is to change and transform midi. Its primary purpose is not really intended to be a straight up midi plaayer. There are afew youtube vids out there that show the creative capabilities of Photon. If you want a straight “I can play this” midi play I find Musk Midi Player fits the bill best.

  • Yeah, I have still to read the manual for Photon properly, it's quite detailed. The only thing I don't like so far is that it doesn't seem to save the buffer between sessions. But no regrets, I love this dev's apps, really intelligent stuff he does.

Really nice elaboration of one motif. How did you make the triplet variation?

probably the result of a delay or the Spacecraft LFO, or a mix of multiple elements. Slices of the sample are being triggered from about 5 different sources. thanks for listening!

  • A little reminder for those who already know of the app, and a heads up for those who don't, that Piano Motifs midi output makes a great combo with the 'midigates' app , which you can use to bring various amounts of randomness into the patterns. Really worth checking out.

Thnx to @Svetlovska for turning me on to this app some months ago btw
