Back to Beatmaker3 for me - and it remains KING of sampling / DAW

Last few months I tried a range of new sampling apps&DAWS and have returned to Beatmaker3 and reminded how good it is. It samples it slices it records and spins dices. Hardly any crashes. Maybe that’s why Intua do not rush updates. The broswer is the best on iOS . Real time timestretch , effects per bank or pad and full Dropbox browser which can be modified within bm3 .Powerfull stuff - Respect to all the devs doing there thing for iOS as I say all this but .... Intua are genius. I tried the other apps because I wanted a cross platform system ipad&iphone which bm3 does not have . Just ipad but I will wait patiently & even if nothing happens for iphone so be it. Giving Intua some big ups as not many have in a while.

Yup, I love it and am constantly jumping between it and NS2. Once NS2 gets audio tracks that will actually equally elevate both of them (NS2 and BM3) for me sooooo much and really feel like a damn near complete iOS solution (which would happen once NS2 gets AUFX automation I guess, cough).

PS. Such a shame that a thread about one app instantly makes me talk about other apps. iOS Life Baby!

  • Yes it’s great...very powerful and yet to see it exploited to it’s potential online...
    Most powerful sampler in iOS....

Why do I have to set pads to touch response though every time I open it?

    When’s BM4 out?!

@AudioGus Ns2 is ok but the swing groove is very straight sounding to my hearing and can not be applied in realtime After recording going into note editor is a slow process.

Yah BM3 is swing king. I use NS2 for more electro chill stuff and BM3 for my wannabeats, yo.

  • I wish the effects were more inspiring....and it had an arp.....
    And better transient detection.....

    @IOSSOS i don’t.

  • If it didn't have such harsh AU automation bugs I would use it way more and not be as swayed by NS2. But even without the bugs the automation editing can pretty laborious.

As a midi synced groovebox to feed my desktop daw it was pretty swanky back in the desktop days...

BM3 is brilliant. I just played around with my MPC One again and it reminded me how good BM3 really is. Disagree on the hardly ever crashes bit though, unfortunately :( . For me it crashes too often. Some things I know will make it crash so I avoid them, but it can crash on the most basic things. Like switching view. Crashes I can't reproduce. I really hope they keep updating it. Because, for me, it's the best "groovebox" out there. Hardware included.

  • The crash situation has really improved with each update for me so here is hoping there are more. It has been 8 months now so... yah any second now! Whoot!

@Geir I have had hardly any crashes but hope any future updates solve that for you. I have a hardware Akai MPC which I have not used at all since bm3.

@AudioGus agree 100% been quite smooth running.

  • BM3 is the app that convinced me that iPads
are wicked all round machines for sound.

Most of the time it's smooth once
you know which apps it doesn't like.

If you're into sampling I would
    recommend it every time.

  • BM3 is pretty stable as long as you only use samples from vinyls you dug up from the crates.

@wim damn right that goes for statements too that been in the crates collecting dust . So static

  • I also use BM3 for things.

    But not for everything.

Bm3’s sampler is indeed king of iOS samplers.

Just to join in the nostalgia kick I have recently returned to my favourite sampler of all time and I have been pleasantly surprised how good it still sounds—- the Ensoniq EPS16 plus.

I’m having a ball with it and am constantly amazed how much fun I can still have with just 2 Mb RAM.

I’ve been using my iPhone/iPad as sampler fodder and I’ve not had this much fun for years. :-D

I wish I’d experimented more with Transwaves back in the day.

Back on topic I like BM3 as long as I pretend it c an’t host auv3s. Because for me, it can’t host auv3s. Use it as just a sampler and it’s fantastic.

    OMG. LOL.

  • BM3 has been pretty stable for me. I typically don't use tons of AUs in it -- I mostly use it for the sampler.

For one day at least, you won the internet.

Care to share some examples of plugins/apps that make it unstable? I’d like to give BM3 another shot and it’d definitely help to know upfront what doesn’t play nice with it.

Does it work well with Drambo and/or Mirack? I probably wouldn’t need anything else if it’s good with those; though fabfilters, eventides and Sugar Bytes’ would be a big plus.

There is some room under my matress.

  • Drambo sequencing a bank in BM3 would be amazing, but I can never ever get BM3 midi to work. Is there a trick to it?

Yes, make sure you use the right settings. It confused me for a while but @Turntablist set me straight. IIRC you have to use the Beatmaker 3 input.

I’ll take another look at it now.

    Drambo and BM3 play
    well together for sure.

  • @BroCoast Any chance you can point me towards the post from @Turntablist ? I've been trying to get this working all morning!

I'm uploading pics now to show how.

Basically though make sure Beatmaker 3 MIDI input is turned on in settings.
Load Drambo and BM3 in AUM
Route Drambo to Beatmaker 3 virtual input
Then choose the MIDI input on the bank you want to sequence and the channel if necessary and it will work.
