If they make it stable enough to complete a project without crashing, I'll give it another go. First DAW I purchased after much hype and the very first 3 beats that I actually felt like I made progress on crashed and I lost everything. I have since steered away from BM3. Sampling, and the pads mode, as well as the drum roll are really fun and intuitive. Just need it to be stable. Until then, CB3 all the way for me.

@Lil_Stu07 i have had hardly any crashes since the last & previous update. A lot of issues before were 3rd party plugins. Still might be the issue for some.

Lots of folks have few if any crashes. It might be worth figuring what triggers the instabilities that you are experiencing.

  • Regarding crashes, I barely had any. I guess the only one was when I tried to upload to dropbox and was offline
Pretty solid performance on my side, and I'm using an 'old' iPad Mini 2

The new beta has been rolled out just now.
Intua used to push updates in "bursts", so let's hope they still have some more stuff in their sleeve. Still, very good sign that they really didn't abandon development. BM3 is really so nice to use and still the best sampler on iOS IMO.

Nice to know, man! And agreed. I see people dissing Intua around. I know they aren't like other devs regarding communication, but my experience with them in the BM1 + BM2 era was nice. And they're trying to keep active with their Youtube channel too

  • I don't have too many crashes with BM3 but what drives me nuts (especially when I do lots of sampling) is the automatic creation of duplicate files when doing simple tasks as trimming or normalizing and I wish it was possible to temporarily disable it since I usually know what I'm doing and do not need to have tons of files saved as backups, one step is more than enough most of the time...

...and not to mention the dreaded 'unsaved sessions mayhem' which is just nuts...

I do like BM3 but some of the stuff in it is just f*cked up and needs a serious fix.
(Look at the competition and learn, it's not rocket science!!!).

I really hope saving and general project & sample management gets some attention too...
...the unsaved sessions and constant sample duplication when doing destructive edits is driving me nuts big time!

While Gadget and NS2 are not 'perfect' at least they have solid project handling without endless unsaved session files and the option to always go back to the last saved session without sacrificing the current state when exiting the apps.

Cubasis 3 has pretty solid project handling as well but suffers from leaving un-needed audio files behind that can not be deleted from the UI (Files.app is needed for that...).

Lately I've been doing most my sampling using the free desktop MPC Beats that 'doesn't get in my way' it just works (apart from a few bugs that I have already reported and gotten confirmation on). Sure, no pitch even lope but I'll just automate the pitch-bend when needed :D

But yeah, I'll keep BM3 on my iPad without too high expectations on the coming update...

I can confirm that saving and sample management, auto save behavior are getting some attention in the new beta Samu.

Thanks, that's really good to hear!

I'm growing to like the way MPC Beats handles samples, easy to use the same sample (with completely different settings) in multiple drum and key group programs or even audio tracks. (ie. easy to grab a portion of the audio recording and use it on drum or key group programs, no sample/file duplication at all).

Also like how fast Drambo got 'sample to key' functionality, ie. while holding down a key a sample gets recorded to it, no need to mapping or jerking around. This would be awesome in BM3 too, just record to a pad while it's held down...

And while at it 'improve' on MPC's lazy chop while recording audio...
(These ideas among others where mentioned long time before BM3 was even out in public, but since my main man is no longer involved I don't know if the ides never got anchored into some kind of bug-base).

Anyways, looking forward to the next update when ever it drops :)

    Cheers!

Crashes have been way reduced. Maybe one every ten hours for me now and ‘blame the AU’.

The only bug keeping me from pushing BM3 anymore to something resembling a ‘complete track’ is this automation range bug which has been around from day one. Aside from this it is a snazzy groovebox for exporting stems...

(Oh and in terms of new features bank freezing would nail it)

NP, I posted it on the intua forum not too long ago and was shown that it is indeed known and in the bug tracker, so fingers crossed....

  • Looking forward to the update! Exciting stuff

  • Overlapping MIDI notes playback issue fixed in beta?

  • one thing I had to learn is ALWAYS STOP THE MUSIC BEFORE U ADD AN AU FX PLUG!!! 90% of my crashes are because i loaded another au while playback was happening.

Yah most crashes for me happen when adding or deleting an AU fx while playing... but I still do it all the time.

  • Yup! I only get upset when it kills the audio engine and I have to restart my iPad. only once a month or so does that happen and only with tracks that have 3 or more AU audio sources and more than 6 or so AU fx plugs.
