@charalew what would you say are the pros and cons of each of these - this and Tonality? Obviously Tonality has the finger picking going for it as u just said, would be curious to hear any other observations you have though 🤔

Well if I had to just pick one, and which of us ever do that, it would have to be Tonality. But that's because I want to use it to play guitar type parts 'live' into ZenBeats. The resizable Strum Bar in Tonality makes a big difference in that respect as does its orientation I.e. the fact that you play up and down rather than left and right. But it all depends what you want to do. The arpeggiator in MIDI Strummer is really good, as is the ability to chain chords into songs. Tonality doesn't have either of those two features but for me that doesn't particularly matter because I don't think I'll really use them. I could see me myself using MIDI Strummer just to bang out some rhythm guitar parts though. Basically, as always, get both😆

  • I will say I wish the strum/pick bar in Tonality was a little wider, it sounds amazing though

  • Oops, just noticed you can widen it, lol

Yes - makes all the difference to me. Basically it needs to be as wide as your hand for best results (if you've got a big enough device of course)

Can I get some metal chugging accomplished with this?

Yeah! I got some good metal chugging going with this.. using LP Twin Muted Soundfont in BS-16 and added DyStorT for extra filth.

    Edit: added example video

Am I the only one that is bothered that the strings are arranged "upside down", with the lower strings at the top? I dunno why, but that really bugs me.

Pretend you’re playing a transparent guitar, looking through the neck and it’ll make sense. Unless, that is, you string your guitar upside down.

Lol, or pretend you’re watching someone else playing guitar, I can understand what you mean as far as being upside down but I can get past it, especially when I start going thru the other sounds it has, which to me is a nice amount of sounds as far as the standalone version goes, but I used it in AUM with Pure Synth Platinum and FF ProQ 3 and wow, it sounded so good

  • There are some great sounding free guitar soundfonts on this site:

    http://www.flamestudios.org/free/Soundfonts

I have imported some of them into the SoundFontsAU app and then sent the midi from Midi Strummer to it.
I think it sounds really good.

Can’t you import them direct into the strummer app?

Yes I can do that too 😊

  • Guitarist here - I love this app! It’s great fun to play on the iPad and I’m not at all worried which direction the ‘strings ‘ are. 😉

Love the voicing controls, the chord selection, being able to play the chord diagram while the arp is going, and the convenience of all the EQ and FX right there In the app. The pattern randomizer is a bucket of fun too!

    And AU3 too...

If the NuRack app is anything to go by I’d say we’ll get some attention in the future too with some refinements and additions.

Instabuy for me... not the slightest regret.

Great to hear! Any specific sounds you are using?

  • From what I’ve seen, I think this will support time signatures other than 4/4 (just by setting the length of the pattern), so stuff like 6/8, 5/4 and 7/8, but if someone could confirm that, it would be appreciated!

  • I used it to run my Model D hardware and it worked really well with that too, it was cool getting those guitar like arpeggios with the synth

@PhilW yeah that’s correct, you just change the pattern length for different time signatures

I’m just fooling with guitar fonts at the moment. Try

    https://www.hedsound.com

There’s some nice free sf2 guitar sounds there. Don’t forget to turn off the Stummers when you try them out! The default has tons of chorus and reverb which makes everything sound the same! 😉

Anyone had any success getting recorded midi notes to show up in NS2 OR ANY DAMN DAW ACTUALLY when runing the arp?

I have no doubt it's user error but I just need the reassurance that it can be done :)

I have no problem recording into LK (I know it's not a DAW) 😊

@JohnnyGoodyear Works fine for recording midi in CB3 and Zenbeats.

  • I’m very interested in this but I’m wondering what people are Any thoughts from any > @Gavinski said:

You can adjust size with little settings gear at bottom of individual note section

NS2 doesn’t record AUv3 midi from any app ... if that’s what you’re trying to do.

There are workarounds. They’re not pretty though.

How happy we are when we find out it's them not us :)

    Thanks.

Have yet to really start the Zenbeats lessons (should do, everyone seems very happy with it), but CB3 is rolling fine so will give it a go. Thanks for the tip.

EDIT: And it worked immediately and easily and breezily and thank you very muchly etc.

Good to know, will give a try etc. Thanks much.

  • Was about to buy but had a couple quick questions, if anyone can help?

    1. How many chord variations, Iterations, and fragmentations etc... are available for each chord? I Don’t need a specific number but I’m definitely hoping for a lot of options here.

    2. Also, can you add your own Chords in any way? It be Really cool if you could pick the spots on the Fretboard that you wanted or didn’t want to Play, basically creating custom chords.

    3. Can this be used to receive midi as well, Any Midi in?

Yes, I discovered that 1 min after posting and mentioned it above. Well, I've asked Paul from 4Pockets for a code for this but haven't heard back, so....

@Gavinski You know... I figured someone answered you before I responded but I was to lazy to read all the comments in between. Lol. So I just threw it out there, just in case.

  • I don’t always do that but once in awhile when I have limited time, and I hop on, sometimes I get a little lazy..lol.

Is there Any one who has the app, that can answer these questions before I purchase? Thanks in advance.

    Ok I'll have a go.

    (1) Lots of chord variations e.g. 18 variations for G Major
    (2) Can't see any way to create your own custom chords. You can in Tonality btw which has some of the same functionality in the soon to be released version
    (3) Yes it receives MIDI. Just tested by playing it from Geoshred.

It's a really good app, particularly if you want an app to Strum for you and you can create your own custom strumming patterns.

  • Just got it ,sounds and patterns are imho very good and yes “Marr in a box” and “vini Reilly”- the “durutti column “. That aside I shoved it into GB as AUv3 ,got it playing as-in stand alone mode ,attempted a recording,-a single tone dirge emirged ,checked the track and there was info there but no audio, have I missed something fundamental here ?
