In custom chord does anyone know how to make a string open once you’ve changed it? I can only seem To move a string to fret or to an X but not back to an open string. This custom chord thing from a guitar interface is so freaking cool. Wow.

Yeah, banging update! To make them an open string, clicking at the bottom should do it. Top for mute, bottom for open. Is that not working for you? @Poppadocrock

Gotcha, Thanks, I thought I tried that but I’ll give it another go.

Coming from a guitar background This app has got me beyond excited. I can now use a guitar interface to input notes On a fretboard, custom chords as well, then arp/strum/pluck/mute them in a sequencer. With the new addition of custom chords (Thank you for adding that so fast Paul) This is compositional heaven for me. I’m in love with this thing.

If you have no guitar knowledge, or you’re a guitar player at any level, I highly recommend this app. With Stummer midi out I can trigger not only some great guitar SF2 playing, but it is equally effective with synth, keys, heck anything you want. Everything sounds so good with midi generated from Strummer. What an amazing app.

  • @Poppadocrock I echo your comments. As a very out of practice guitarist, I have been waiting for an app like this for years and was really surprised that no one, up to this point, had come up with an app that allows for the creation of custom picking and strumming patterns to such a degree.

    Hey guys , I’ve a question

I’m using notes 0-15 with note 16 for arp as control midi. the strummer outputs the chord as expected, but it also plays the actual note that is pressed. How do I only play the chord and not the pressed low note? Thanks

    Bump

Would like to see videos of Strummer in action creating unique synth/key sequences or arps.

@Gavinski What do you think about suggesting to Paul the idea of adding an Off option for the chord change feature frequency feature, in order to facilitate really quick chord changes?

Can u explain more clearly what you mean maybe?

  • @Gavinski
Basically it would give you the option to make really fast chord changes that were not tied to a pattern per se, if that makes sense.

Applied Acoustics System released a much sophisticated audio unit some five years ago :

Sorry, I don't really get fully what you are asking for! Contact Paul directly would be my suggestion, Paul (at) kal-group.com, as mentioned elsewhere.

  • @RockBottom sorry for any confusion on my part, I was referring to guitar apps on the IOS platform .
Personally, I use Ample Sounds software on my laptop and that software has a somewhat similar MIDI based pattern interface to Midi Strummer, along with host of other playing/input options like a tab based interface, for example.

  • @Gavinski I will reach out to Paul and see what he says, however It's definitely not a must have feature for me. There is already enough in the new update to keep me happy

  • OT You can get some sort of strumming going using Chord Glide app which came out this week. Worth a go at 99 cents.

  • @Gavinski Any luck getting the Piano to Guitar chord input working when using Midi Strummer in AUM? I am trying use it with Scalebud , but it won't change chords and gets stuck on one chord . It appears to work fine in standalone mode

    +100
If there was a way to do custom tunings, I’d use this in EVERYTHING.. ALL the time.. as it is, it’ll be in every project anyway.. it already is indispensable + an utter joy to have this guitar interface as an input to making music on my iPad.. Thank you Paul! 🙏

This works for me in AUM but only while the plugin window is open, seems to be a bug as it gets stuck in one chord when the plugin window is closed. Great feature so hope this bit gets fixed.

  • Is there a way to do 16th or 32nd note embellishments yet? Say a quick sus4 of a D? In either full strum (all strings at once) or picking (Individual string patterns). Thanks.

  • @xor not that I am aware of, but definitely a worthwhile feature suggestion

It works OK for playing chords in from a keyboard. But not for receiving midi from chordbud 2, and I guess the same with scalebud - though I think Paul has already figured out why that is and will fix in the next update.

  • Y’all see this update rn? Looks like a Sunday evening session kinda night.

    I’m so loving this app.

  • Paul the developer advised me that a feature that would allow for syncopated chord changes i.e. allowing chord changes on the off beat, will most likely make its way into a future update.
If this got added as a feature, it would really help with playing syncopated harmonic rhythms, where the chord changes on an off beat and also when playing embellished chords.

  • Anyone else noticing the following issue when using the randomizer function, that is the randomize function will not play through all of the pattern, when using certain Presets.
So for example, if I use the "New Age Love Song" preset it will generate and play a randomized pattern as normal, however on the Phased Muted Rhythm preset, it will only play the first step of the randomized pattern. I have tried this in both AUM and standalone mode with the same outcome. I am running IOS 13.7

  • Paul the developer found what the issue was with the Randomizer function, when it won’t play certain randomized patterns and will issue a fix on the next update.

  • Never played a guitar but this app is simply amazing // opened a whole new world

  • I noticed at the end of the Slo-Mo video that he was showing Midi Strummer with “velocity triggered slides.” Can anyone confirm that this has or hasn’t been released yet and if it has what its capabilities and limitations are? Thanks!

  • I am not aware of such a feature in the current version of the app, but I will reach out to the developer and ask him.

  • Has anyone heard from the app developer about changing the orientation of the strings in the arpeggiator? This is the one fundamental flaw in the app that I just cannot get my head around. Decades of reading books and instructions have the bass E at the bottom and the treble E at the top. It isn't a question of trying to work with it, it is literally rearranging convention when it comes to guitar notation.

Or am I missing an option that has since been added somewhere?

  • I’ve asked him about it, and other layout issues with little response (moving the arranger next to the strummer) but he did add harmonic minor after I pointed out there was a space in the scale slots just waiting for it :)

  • For any MIDI Strummer users out there , are there are any particular updates/features you would like to see implemented in any future updates? I have been in touch with Paul the developer and he is very open to suggestions.

  • Move the sound selection bit to the bottom so that the sequencer and strummer section are next to each other - changing the sounds and FX is something done much less often than going between the strum patterns and the sequence so it’s well irritating having to scroll past all that when trying to fine tune something...

Maybe some work on making the sequencer itself a bit more flexible and fun to use - either dragging sections about, or changing them easier, or some sort of actual section building that can be copied/repeated etc - that would require a lot more thought though...

  • Thanks for the input @Krupa, that makes sense
