It doesn't have all the sounds, but when unlocked it's ~800 sounds (I have not counted them, it's too many).
There are 3 drum kits kick the butt compared to the other drum kits.
This since the 3 drum kits in ZC1 are very 'articulate' and respond to velocity way better than the regular ZenBeats Drumkits!
We can only hope that @MatthewAtZenbeats and his team will include more tones with future updates!
I'd say, make ZC1 on par with the MC-101/707 for starters and add the 'randomize' feature that was added to the hardware boxes until we get full patch editing which I'd be happy to pay IAP for but I will not do the cloud subscription thing!
Another 'treat' would be to be able to unlock all MC-101/707 sounds in ZC1 when connecting a MC-101/707 or something similar. This unlock thing could just like Yamaha's FM Essentials App and make people interested in the hardware and when checking it out in the store they'd get a 'bonus' inside ZenBetas iOS/iPadOS/Androind when hooking up their devices to the unit.
AUv3 'thing' could be very nice treat...
This could also be a separate app that provides the AUv3. Think 'iZenology Pro'.
Now that the MC-101 is 'class compliant' I'll take another look at it and who knows, maybe I'll get one
Hmmm, cool, can AUs now be automated using their native GUIs?
I have not managed to record AUv3 automation with the AUv3 Plug-In UI or the 'parameter list' which shows all available AUParamters for a plug-in with Automation Recording enabled...
...could be that it only records 'some' automation parameters?!
It is possible to select any AUParameter in the editors and draw the automation by hand which seems to work pretty good.
Would have been nice if Roland kept Cakewalk Sonar...
Hi, is there some sort of integration between the ZenBeats and the Roland MC-707? Or is it just class-compliant audio+MIDI? Thanks.
No just class compliance, but yesssss yesss yessss
Love the ZC1 808 + 909. Worth the $10 to get the other sounds?
I’m paying for the pro subscription. It’s a great deal considering you get the full unlock for iOS and the desktop version.
Anyone with a MC707. How does iOS Zenbeats with unlock compare?
Yep, I did export a bank from Zenology and then import it in ZC1, but there were some problems. One of the patches was missing a sample and sounded much different then. Moreover I did manage the import of the whole bank but then the function to store the patches did not work.
Since I got the unlock for V1 'Free' during Rolands Pandemic Promo I decided to get the V2 unlock...
...there's a load of preset sounds when unlocked but only 3 drum kits for now.
I suspect there will be a bunch of Youtubers making videos of the ZC1 synth in the coming weeks.
@Samu Are any of the 800+ presets from the JV-1080? Just curious to know mate.
ZenCore uses a lot of waveforms and tones from the XV-5080, some are very similar to the JV waveforms and tones, similar with the expansion boards.
Ah nice!
Might be worth the money. What I'm hoping for are orchestral and world instrument sounds.
I think it's a 'mixture of everything' Roland has released so far
Considering that the MC-101 & 707 have presets from the XV-5080 it's quite likely that some JV-1080 presets are in there as well. Even the 'free' version without unlock has a bunch of ZC1 patches to play around with, but I just bumped to one of my favorites (The D 50 Staccato Heaven) and that triggered me to get the IAP since I got V1 unlock for free and felt almost obligated to support future development
(But I will not fall in to the the Roland Cloud Trap!).
Trying to 'slowly' scroll the preset list is almost impossible since even a slight movement jumps a few pages of presets
Browsing by category is a must...
The number of patches can be a bit misleading since there are both dry and effected (with w added) versions of some presets.
I'm looking forward to future ZenBeats updates but the 'small' IAPs (16 presets for 4 store points!) feels a bit greedy if I'm totally honest considering that some full blown synth apps go for the same price...
Cheers!
I haven’t tried to figure out patches that are the same on hardware that are in the sofware yet, but the most CPU intensive ones on the hardware have the maximum number of partials/OSC’s using 4, with the VCF filter set at -24dB cutoff, this equates for the Jupiter X/m to about 32 note poly depending on release times etc, in total it has a maximum of 256 voices. But that’s 32 voices for Jupiter 8, JX8P, Juno 106 and SH101 emulations.
Are the Roland Cloud instruments available on iOS?
No
As much as I'd like full editing of ZC1 I don't think it will happen, or if it does it would be tied to top tier subscription. If they brought it fully to iOS it would hurt hardware sales, why buy a 707 if you can do it all on an iPad.
I'm thinking a hardware unlock and/or a $49 IAP could be an option for Roland to protect their 'IP'.
Ie. user buys a MC-101/707 (Or any ZenCore enabled hardware) and the iPad/iPhone version of IZenology Pro is 'unlocked' when connecting the hardware. Somewhat similar to Cubasis LE works with different vendors hardware.
I mean it's totally crazy and insane to tie the software editor for the hardware to a subscription service!
Call me crazy but to me it's just pure greed from Rolands side...
If you're crazy then i'm joining your club. Like i understand why Roland did it from business point of view, but every company (NO EXCEPTION) which introduces subscriptions on any software product stops existing for me. Subscriptions are big no-no for me. And this case (sw editor for hw product) is whole case moved to extreme. There is, to my knowledge, only one other HW producer which sells SW editor for their (overpriced) HW products instead of providing it for free - Dave Smith Instruments.
the same here. No chance to try it.
The subscription would apply to people who do NOT own the hardware. If you have the hardware then an unlock via connecting should be available yes.
Hm are you sure ? Friend who is distributor for Roland gear told me that you have to pay subscription for Roland Cloud Pro ($9.99 per month) or Ultimate ($19.99 per month), to get access to Zenology Pro.
No, I'm just saying how it could/should be. I cannot see them unlocking the whole of ZenCore in software unless you pay a high subscription, it doesn't make sense for the hardware side of the business. And as @Samu said, paying a subscription for an editor for hardware you own doesn't make sense from a user perspective.
A balancing act for sure, and no-one has yet got it spot on.
ah, ok.. agree, it would be nice but don't think there is chance Roland will do this ..
Or purchase the key
I can't find a separate life time key for Zenology Pro on the web-site only the individual module expansions (Juno, 101 etc.).
But even then if I was to buy an MC-101, 707, Xm or Jupiter-X I would expect to get the editor for free.
The other options are pure greed...
The price is in the Roland Cloud Manager $230
Or hope Roland include a sysex implemention that would allow 3rd party editors.
Ok, then they going do what Audio Damage does, drop one zero for the iPad/iOS version (ie. $23)
Considering that there would no bigger issues with pirated software on the iPhone/iPad it could work...
