I just don't have the energy to keep confronting all the unfair negativity that gets charged at BM3 online - and especially here, for some reason. Why do I try defending it? I don't want new users to be poisoned against this wonderful DAW, and miss the opportunity to experience all the joy it is capable of bringing.
No, it's not perfect -- Yes, there are things about it that drive me mad -- but it still brings me the most joy of all the iOS DAWs despite all this, so I continue trying to help others get the best out of this app.
Hopefully, most see an imperfect diamond that requires a few workarounds and care. Others - I assume - must see a steaming pile of doo-doo that deserves every pejorative pile-on that seems to happen every time a new thread about BM3 starts on this forum.
If BM3 doesn't work for you, or you can't see past some of its weaknesses, move along and find your own personal iOS music workflow nirvana/niche with my sincere blessings. Just please don't take so much glee in rubbishing it at every opportunity. Please.
@tk32 forget about the haters...BM3 is what it is...an app with great potential...and as long as the ship is being set right, who cares what people think.
I've learned a ton since I started using Drambo in April, and I can't wait to apply what I've learned in it and on my MPC One to BM3.
Make music with whatever tool gets you in to a state of flow.
Now on to importing all these recent VST patches I sampled using the MPC Beats desktop software into BM3 to get my favorite sounds on the iPad
I can't wait. Once I do this, I'll look into posting some on PatchStorage...
Cheers!
How odd. As of right now, there's not a single announcement of or post about this update on the BM3 forum?
I do find the sound of the chirping crickets quite relaxing however. 💤
Yeah, don't make your loop shorter than this, otherwise your ears/speakers will pop and it'll crash. Memory-reset necessary.
Forgot about that one.
...and the gentle wooshing of tumbleweed
Alas, were it not so. The masses have spoken. AUM is the new religion.
I'm flattered, but you overestimate my reach and influence @tja
Intua have stopped frequenting the forum, mostly, and I have very little power to set the dev's priorities.
I am a mere faithful fanboy.
Sir, you are nothing but a pejorative spreader of underserved negativity. Kindly go your way in peace. 'Tis only acceptible to say positive things about BM3.
Bro. I don’t even know why you let this bother you.
Most people from the forum (about 95%) hangs out in our discord chat where it was announced and people updated. While I agree it also should have been announced in the forum, doesn’t mean that we don’t care. With this forum and a couple discord rooms I think we got it covered ( runs to forum to make a post😂😂😂)
Good point.
Hans is right.
We do all our bitching on Discord now - which is why the forum looks dead
@tk32 respect to you always . I have had hardly any issues with bm3. I think its cos I make beats and crate dig . Anyone who ever used an MPC or hardware sampling drum machine since the 80s/90s knows how treasured bm3 is. Nothing beats bm3 for that. See you over on discord tk32 . Peace and thanks as always . Those who are having crashes etc check your AU plugins and double check if you can actually make beats
@Korakios CrashBugger3 made me laugh out loud! 🤣
Please keep trying to use BM3 just for the comedy!
It’s funny. I think for those of us who use BM3 as a primary DAW, we have much lower expectations of updates. We’re on Discord saying, ‘Oh wow! We got a couple more fixes and couple of new features! This is amazing! BM3 paaaaarty!’
Just for the record, we have looong bug list of outstanding issues. Each update seems to pick a few more off. But there are many known issues still waiting for a fix. Tis the life of the indie DAW!
I find low expectations a pretty good philosophy for life in general.
Every small bonus feels like a lottery win.
And just like any other lottery there are far more losers than winners
Had the day off today, so spent a lot of it with BM3. Only issue I had was stuck notes in ZEEON. Is that one au that doesn’t play well with BeatMaker 3?
Otherwise, great fun, learned a lot and quite taken with it so far.
Sad
That’s why i dont gamble
Maybe I’m lucky that I never got a handle on a desktop daw before jumping into iOS production with BM3. Even what are considered workarounds in BM3 that some folks who are spoiled by desktop daw’s seem to hate seem perfectly reasonable to me. I managed to record a song with AUV3 and IAA synths, multiple 3rd party fx (insert and send), automation and samples that I chopped, reversed, mangled in untold ways, vocals, mixed and mastered all in BM3. I did run into a roadblock here and there that @tk32, @wim or others on the forum and dischord helped me figure out. Not to mention that much of the work was done while sitting on the couch or laying in bed. That’s more than I can say for the desktop daw’s that I never quite got a handle on. Maybe I’m getting soft in my old age, but I’m looking on the bright side which stokes me out on the little things like the new reordering banks feature. Sure I would love lazy chop, Ableton style warping, timeline headers... but I was brought up to appreciate what you got so as far as I’m concerned, BM3 is the shit because it’s the daw I learned and it got me to the dance. I hope others can find the joy with additional upcoming updates.
Yes Zeeon is one of those apps. I use it and don’t usually have issues. Maybe it’s because I’ve learned a few tricks of what not to do with problematic AUV3 with BM3.
Thanks @hansjbs, I’ll just avoid it. I’ve got loads of other options. Cheers.
Moving banks up and down so far my fav to the update. Makes a huge difference now when setting up the timeline. I can now at least open a couple of my projects that froze my iPad they are still sluggish but I can at least work them.
Only one crash so far and that was pure synth. My projects with Zeeon, I just have to open Zeeon and it acts right after that the same with poison 202.
So far it’s a good update. Cant complain yet lol 😆 I’m afraid to rescan the library though might take a week again to get my iPad back.
It might be ios 14 but my icons for au’s don’t have the right icons. GB is doing the same thing.
For some reason my AU instruments load but play nothing when hitting notes. It’s happening with Layr, Pure Synth, and Zeeon. It’s like an every other session thing but if I have multiple instances of one, one of those might not play at all and it’s very annoying. Didn’t have any issues like that before updating to 3.0.14. I’m also still on iOS 13
EDIT: restarted the iPad and so far everything is back to normal. Not sure what was up with that
Interesting combo BM3 and the Atom SQ looks like a great little controller for BM3 and general iOS use Anyone using it in the iOS community would love to here your thoughts?
One good thing about BM3 is it’s midi mapping focus actions it’s way ahead of other ios DAWS in that respect.
Update looks great. Love Re-order banks and Rename Session. Was excited about the color picker with palettes .. filled up a palette with new colors and then it froze then crashed. Three times in a row. Anyone played with this yet?
How do you map those buttons to sequencer steps?
@rs2000 Not sure as don’t have the controller.
