Hey everyone, new to Drambo. Does anyone have advice on when to use Aum and when to use Drambo standalone? With it’s ability to host plugins, have most of you switched to standalone Drambo, or are you still using Aum. I realize there is no such thing, but I’m looking for best practice.
I think it's becoming more and more a matter of taste. AUM still has advantages when you're more into an audio mixer style UI, also if you're using buses and if you do a lot of MIDI routing then it's still more straightforward to do but for most other stuff I'm already working in Drambo standalone exclusively. The next huge update (it will take another few weeks until release for sure) will add substantial sequencing and automation facilities.
@cvwonder I’m nlt a Drambo expert but for me it depends on the original idear. I get a lot if idears from just trying something out in Drambo. But I try to decide if i wanna make a Drambo project or if I wanna move it to AUM before i load any AUs.
Another AU thing is that i only use universal AUs when hosting them in Drambo because i like to be able to work on the go with my iphone, save in icloud and then continue on ipad without having to rearrange my choise of AUs.
In AUM i use Drambo as a multi tool after i have started a session with other apps. Drambo is usefull for A LOT of stuff in AUM but I rarely build a synth or FX unless i want it to do something crazy.
This has been depressing me since Drambo arrived. Thought Id fixed it. Now have moved system around. How it routes from ipad to ipad and dealing with cpu. I could use drambo to host the euclidean drums then send to aum using audio4c but lose a channel and be dealing with high cpu because that ipad is for power synths.
Problem is the retrigger module ( with euclidean drums )
Sounds good when hosted in drambo. You turn off gate and choose the best beat setting but its never been good to use in aum. Its either me or the sequencer/divisions cant work well with midi out. Outside of drambo.
Why is the retrigger module knob the only knob that cant move freely when mapped to a controller?
Can anyone do a test in drambo and also aum. Euclidean out to a drum kick. Add a retrig before chance module. Turn off gate. You will find that drambo sounds nice and workable. Where as aum it just sounds like a load of out of time machine gun beats and always has.
Hope its me. Seems dodge having to lose a channel for a synth/not use ipads to each full potential. Just because of a retrigger module but if its timing issue. Then I guess thats how it is.
I guess I will just host in drambo and send to aum. There will still be x2 mononoke and a moog z. Hoping the cpu will be ok as drambo isnt as efficient as aum. Its not like id be tweaking other synths on screen if theres mpe in the foreground. Its just Id feel I need to use the same synths always. Just to be getting my cpu's worth.
Unless its me?
Ideally. It can be sorted, as although for this type of drum will all be midi ( fun ) I wouldnt generally be able to app switch because of audio clicks. When app switching.
All this for a retrig module.
So euclidean to a kick drum. Add a retrig. Turn off gate. Adjust velocity and choose the best beat from the 4 options. Add a chance module after retrig. Its like the drum kick is workable chance and retrig/chance sounds like the sequencer is ok.
but try the same with aum.
Might be ok. Does seem like theres more leeway in Drambo but you have to obviously use the retrig wisely with the bpm of track. Just seems better in Drambo. Is the retrig module the only way to retrig or stutter a euclidean drum. Any other module would need a midi knob also.
Would the easiest way to do layered sampled instruments be by loading multiple samplers into an instrument rack and using a mixer to route the audio? I have some samples from mars instruments with left/right samples I’d like to load properly and figured the multi velocity stuff isn’t what I need to use
Made a good setup. Drambo to Aum. Drambo can route bus channels to aum. So not so bad for DAW work. My live noodling dosent seem to need to remap for stuff thats more fine tuned for DAW or start/stop splice tracks. Just maybe need a piano roll but could use xequence for now.
Yall know what time its is. Id tell you more bout setup but probably wont.
Obviously too excited to make stickers good.
Only prob is I cant pan volca drum ( I think ) Even if used for random samples. Unless theres a way?
Look cool. There are roumors of a piano roll in Drambo for the next update. I don’t know when it will drop.
He planned on a pre Xmas drop but posted on Facebook it’s going to take a bit longer due to sick kiddos and other things going on. Looking forward to the piano roll and automation setup.
Thanks for the info @mikewb
Let him take the time he needs. It’s better to enjoy what you do at a slower pace. I’m looking forward to the update but i still love Drambo regardless.
Hopefully tracks lengths. Record stems.
I always set up then realize synths are maybe too much cpu. On ipad mini. there 7 instances of Fac drum. 4 instances of Koala but gets recorded to drambo samplers. An additional euclidean bass synth. An aux synth like ripplemaker. Effects.
Then main ipad is 2 x mononoke. 2 x moog z. An id700. Turntable input. Inputs for volca drum. Mic. Effects etc.
Euclidean not always needed. You just connect back via midi. Then you got drum pads via launchpad x.
Yes, and that's how I would do it too.
It'll also give you more freedom to process layers individually.
Thanks rototom. I can pan this way when I take out mic input and add a dual trs cable.
Ok... Was looking forward to Santa delivering this update... But looking at the pic of that update... it will be well worth the wait.... Can anyone tell if midi import/export is expected with this update..... and... Any more pics?
Thanks..
No midi import/export atm. Pictures are only coming from the dev himself, with the daily changes a pic today may be out of date by tomorrow
Ouch... Thanks..
Thanks though. Seems like I can, pan in aum.
Will just switch cable if I need to pan from drum.
Nope, the update isn’t out yet.
Hello my dear Drambonians.
I have a question. When I open a Drambo instance in a FX slot in AUM only the main track is available wether I chose an FX or an MFX instance.
But i can still load a full project and create more tracks.
Are there some details that i should know?
Yes, you can load full tracks in AUM when dRambo is being as an FX.
The only thing you cannot do is instantiate an Auv3 within
dRambo when it’s being used an FX which is a limitation of Auv3’s.
Thanks @Gravitas.
One more question. If the FX instance can be fully funtional ( apart from being an AUv3 host ) why are there a FX and a MFX ( midi ? ). Is there a bigger difference or are they just templates ?
No worries.
dRambo FX cannot send or receive midi,
dRambo MFX can send and receive midi.
You can use audio using either instances.
If you only need to use audio then use dRambo FX,
if you need to use both audio and midi then use dRambo MFX.
You can also use the inbuilt keyboard and pads using either instances.
Thanks @Gravitas MFX will be my goto then. I’m gettin more and more hooked on Drambo as sequencer and LFO.
I’m really excited to see what we can do with the upcomming piano roll.
@Lorichs
It’s fun to use as a sequencer and for sending out LFO’s.
I tend to use the Graphic Modulator instead
of using LFO’s as I like to draw in my shapes.
