Try the iCab Mobile browser. It loads these pages quickly, with no problem. It's my go-to for this thread, now.

  • Yea im not looking to sample a Metallica riff but lets say you mangle the Metallica till its un intelligible, probably ok. And super underground anyway, cheers.

  • Not sure if this one has been shared yet but I found another good one HistoryRadio.org
It’s a station that plays History, literature, Blog, & Radio. Direct link see below.

@bleep: all the books - and more importantly, the performances of the readings too - are public domain on the brilliant LibriVox app: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/librivox-audio-books/id596159212

I’ve already bigged up one of my own tracks on this thread so I won’t do it again, but I was pleased the way a Lovecraft reading turned out on my recent track Strange Eons. It was when I checked the license rules for the clip I used that I discovered the excellent LibriVox public domain rules. I bought the commercial version of the app to show some support and wrote a letter of thanks via the app contact to my ‘guest vocalist’ and received word back from the LibriVox people that my appreciation had been passed.

If you are into Lovecraft at all I can recommend the readings of him you’ll find via the app.

The books are read by volunteers so the quality can vary, but there are some great, pro quality readings of some of my favourite other authors are there too, like M.R. James, Blackwood, Machen... Just use AudioShare, AudioStretch or any other app that can extract the audio from a video recording, and screen capture the LibriVox app playing back the section you want, then rip the wav.

Thanks for this link Svetlovska! Happy New Year! Cheers, ED

By the way, this is getting a bit off topic, but there is a great app 'Voice Dream Reader' which you can use to read ebooks etc to you and it had some voices that are much better than the apple text to speech voices. I particularly like the Scottish voice 'Rhona'. I often use this to 'read' books or articles etc when I am walking.

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/voice-dream-reader/id496177674

This looks amazing Gavinski. It’s a very expensive for me so I am starting to save for it now since it comes with a world class reccomendation-yes that’s you, you know your stuff! I hope the app may go on sale. Happy New Year to you & all of my musicmaking pals here on the ABF. Everyone here, please stay safe & healthy, as you are all precious & valued members of a very special & unique music making community that has brought me endless joy to someone who lives isolated by a nasty disease long before the Rona came along. Musicmaking is my joy&passion and sharing it all with such a friendly & knowledge group satisfies my curiosity to learn more, urge to splurge & buy more (that’s a good thing in my book cuz you then learn more), & play more. It’s always real pleasure to meet you all on here. Here’s to an incredible 2021 in making the best music ever using only an IPAD. The thought still blows my mind. I could never afford a hardware synth and now I have many of them, so cheers to that too! Rock on and...Peace on Earth, ED

I don’t use the radio to sample straight out of it
I use it more as „random oscillator“ ...

Sure you can grab samples with the sampler.

Any clips of yours that you feel like sharing as an example of the random oscillator use Max? I’d love to hear what you do with this APP using that method. Cheers, ED

I uploaded it for you. Enjoy.

Sorry Max! Forgive me, I have not ignored I’ve you been sick. Thank you for posting this gem.I love the Musique Concrete feel of the piece. Surely Delia & Daphne would be proud of this piece. It has some really lovely rhythmic bits. I just love sonic experiments like this. Nicely done. Happy New Year to you.

Hey @Jumpercollins thanks for picking up that Tweet!

I still hope to support Streemur going forward.

I still curate the stations playable on the pads to make sure they are still online whenever possible. I also try to keep them mostly talk radio oriented.

It's also perhaps not very noticeable, but I try to display the language heard on the station on screen as well...

Anyway, thanks to all who did pick it up over the last couple of years! Maybe there's still a place in the toolkit for it :)

    👍 love Streemur still

@ElektrikDiva thank you! It is expensive, I agree. The way I see it though, it is still a lot cheaper than audiobooks. Of course, people's tolerance for text to speech varies, personally I sometimes like it more than a human narrator, but your mileage may vary! As I say, I really like the Rhona voice, it is very natural sounding to my ears. Definitely better than most of the apple tts voices last time I checked. Happy New Year to you!

Fair enough Gavinski! I will look into it for sure because your recommendation is good enough for me. Thanks for this info! It really is a fascinating new area of musicmaking and the experiments will never tire now with all these cool new tools at our disposal to mangle up some good convo and global music beats. Happy New Year to you too Gavin, all the very best! Cheers, ED

Definitely, you’re welcome, I was hunting them down. Lol.

    On a separate note...

Has any had a radio link work that didn’t end in .m3u?

For Radio France, I'm using https://icecast.radiofrance.fr/fipjazz-hifi.aac, and similar for the other channels. Their web pages just link to themselves. I had to extract the actual links from the page source text, using the iCab Mobile browser on iOS.

  • Sorry that I haven’t read every entry on this thread. I am having trouble getting a radio link into the app user slot. Is there a trick to this? I put in the entire browser name and it says either it’s not supported or it just won’t go over into the user slot. Anyone else having challenges getting their own finds into a user slot? Great app which makes me fall in love with the sound of radio all over again. Baffled. Happy New Year everyone. Cheers, ED

Here's my first Radio Unit experiment/demo. Also my first time using Drum Computer or posting a video here. Not sure this is music, per se, and it's definitely not "produced", but it does show the potential and endless fun possible with this app.

Channel 1: Drum Computer --> MixBox
Channel 2: Radio Unit --> Koshiba --> Nembrini SoundMaster --> MixBox --> Scattrerbrain
Channel 3: Radio Unit --> Filterstep --> Velvet Machine --> Bleass Motion EQ

  • Really love that channel 2!!!

    Very impressive! 👍🏻

  • Classical concerts, operas, and orchestral performances are often live-streamed on internet radio. Conveniently funneling them into a DAW this way for editing or enhancing or sampling is huge. Copyright aside I can imagine this to be a great way to make great sounding orchestral samples, even of one big crashy chord for example.

Very cool around the 2.30 min mark with Drum Computer @Schmotown

  • @SNystrom @Gavinski I’ve learned so much from you both and really appreciate your encouragement.

Wow, this one was really buried in there. "streamurl" can a helpful search term if you're faced with hunting through code, to narrow it down. I'm no programmer btw.

'Roots N Rhythm Radio' is streaming from 'Zeno FM', and can be found here:

Brilliant thanks! I had a look at Icab browser but I’m not understanding from the description how the IAPs work. So buying the browser doesn’t buy the IAPs? Can I access stream data without the IAP? 🤔

You get everything you need without the IAP. I love iCab Mobile; it has so many features, and continues to grow. It's certainly handy for stuff like this, tricky downloads, etc.

  • I love these new apps for adding Internet sources into my AUM sessions.
    I mixed up 3 sources:

A YouTube News Video with spoken word
A SoundCloud music file from my archives
An Internet Radio Station that served up some excellent Reggae

Then I just did a little AUM mastering bring the sources up and down in a new recording
but just for demonstration purposes and to test the UI's of these 3 great apps.

  • Just found this (probably old news or better options) but this site will give you a direct link to a bunch of stations:
    fmstream.org

Click on a button on the right(mp3, LC .. not web), then from the player drag drop the link directly into Radio Unit
