Everybody's holding back for Black Friday. But as ever, some devs will come out of the blocks early, and then the avalanche begins!
There has been, for sure. very true. I literally prepare by making a detailed list, maybe setting up some additional appsliced alerts, and try to save up additional funds. Then I go on a 6 week spree, lol. I must admit I’ve spent more this year in the “offseason” then usual, but this what I like to do with free time. Make music. You’re spot on. some companies decide to go early in an effort to get your money early, which can be smart. Like anything all developers are different, and what makes sense for one, doesn’t for another.
Im just going by the eye test here, but the last week has been the the lowest amount of app sales per day that I’ve seen… maybe all year.
Thanksgiving to New Years Day is by far the best time of year to stock up on apps. The best dates being Black Friday week (now a week lo) through Cyber Monday, and then late December to the first day of the New Year. So if you don’t know, now ya know…
Obviously not all, but the vast majority of music apps will go on sale, in this 6 week period. By contrast I have to believe this is probably one of the lowest times of the year for App Sales/App Purchases.

Even that is admirable. Lol. Mine fluctuates a lot, so it’s hard to say how much on a monthly basis. Some $5-$10 some $75-$100 (ie. November/December)

Guard Ninja - is Free usually $.99 - protects device but also can protect wallet, etc. by placing your device on top of something, pretty cool. Maybe you want it on top a midi controller or something as well. Why not.

It’s a good idea, because when sales come thick and fast some maybe only lasting one day, it’s good to know what you need, and what you want.
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t count on any TB sales though, since they are so reasonably priced apps for the quality, they don’t do sales. Well they haven’t and have commented about it, so there’s a high chance they won’t.

Just want to share… I’m currently working on a track for Loopop‘s competition and I think it will be my best track so far although I‘m quite limited because I try to stick as much as I can to his wishes to use only free plugins or the ones that are coming with the DAW of choice (Cubasis in my case). I have only few exceptions which is Bleass delay and AudioLayer. Surprisingly there is no really good free delay with stereo effect and Decent Sampler is too basic - no real envelopes and no filters.
Anyway, using only Loopop‘s samples and no synth at all works surprisingly well. I focused on shaping the sounds with effects, filters and the envelopes of the sampler. The whole armada of synths and FX not in use. A software selection that totals below 100 bucks or even below 60 when using sales 😜. I will keep reading this thread and for sure keep buying apps and supporting the iOS devs. But this experience is truly inspiring for me.
Funnily enough, I’m doing the same thing, but with drambo and audiolayer. I’m doing it more as a learning experience than with any expectation of winning or anything. Some nice sounds in that package…
Yep, same here. I enjoy the experience and I don‘t think about winning something. There are already 130+ submissions, lots of them very good. Great idea to use Drambo as you do not really need plugins then. Anyway, I think for iPad musicians it is really okay to to use some more commercial plugins as the iOS DAWs are not so rich as the desktop DAWs. I‘m mostly using the Waldorf and Nymphes samples.

I noticed Borderlands was last updated in May 2020 and if I am correct, it's not compatible with AUM yet. Is this app still worth it in 2021?

Borderlands is by far the lead granular playground on iOS. The fact it hasn’t been updated since May 2020 shouldn’t put you off. It functions fine via Audiobus 3 or as an IAA. And using it to export Wav’s/Aiff’s has a huge amount of merit too. Just look at Borderlands Granular as a near perfect use of iPadOS for sound design.
It is compatible with AUM, as long as you launch it before adding it as an IAA source in AUM. In my experience of using it over the last few years, it’s always had this limitation, but using this method, it loads for me without any issue and works seamlessly every time.
I’ve used it recently in iOS 15 and have encountered no issues.
It also works both as an instrument and also as a live audio effect, which is where its really power lies.
It doesn’t have a “Return to IAA Host” button, which is a little awkward, but with careful swiping or other method, this isn’t too much of an issue.
