MTS for IPad - MTS for Windows (10).

I’ve also shipped projects between MTS for iPad and MTS for Windows (96) (old 32 bit stack)

Projects can ship back and forth between the PC and iPad versions, something I haven’t seen with other iPad/PC combinations.

MTS also is available in Mac, and projects can do iPad - Windows - Mac.

I use MTS for iPad and for Mac and I really like how seamless it is to move back and forth between them, and I also like how similar the two versions are, making the switch from one to the other even easier. I didn’t know it was seamless with PC too, though - that’s great.

MTS seems so underrated and, as far as I can tell, its desktop version seems almost completely unknown outside of people like you and me who also use the iPad version. I discovered MTS for desktop because I already had the iPad version - I’ll bet the same is true of you?

I have •never• seen MTS on any list of desktop DAWs (even lists of obscure DAWs that include programs like MuLab) and I have never seen any mention of MTS on non-iOS forums. But it is an excellent program! Maybe it is better known in Europe? I am in the US.

The way the iOS and desktop versions of MTS are nearly identical really does make them so easy to work with. I don’t know why more companies have not adopted the MTS approach of having desktop and iOS DAWs that are extremely similar. I guess iOS GarageBand is supposed to be similar to Logic but it always felt pretty different to me.

@LeftyChris ;Zenbeats and n-Track has these cross platform as well. I just got MTS last night . What’s Aidio Evolution got that MYS doesn’t?

    Yes sir

    Wow, thanks!!

@Littlewoodg :Thanks! Ok you talked me into it. I just got MYS over Cubasis 3. Not too much video support apart from a few that are 7 or 8 years old but the manual looks quite good.

  • Drambo on iPad, mainly Logic (sometimes Ableton Live Intro) on my MBP

  • I’m trying out AUM through an iConnectMIDI2+ with Logic. I’ve had an iPad for a couple years now, but have only had a Mac (M1 Mini) for a month or so. I’m still on the demo of Logic, so I still have a LOT to learn as this is my first computer capable of running a full blown DAW. I bought the iConnect earlier this year, but thought it wasn’t what I needed. Now I see it is a pretty slick unit. I’ve messed with IDAM some and that is nice, but the iConnect seems to bring a little more to the table, up to 4 channels of bidirectional audio, for one. I’m still figuring out the midi routing, mainly getting one of my keyboard controllers to play a synth on AUM. I’ll get there.

I tried Zenbeats on both devices and liked it, but didn’t love it.

  • AUM (sometimes Cubasis) on iPad
recorded in real time to ProTools on a Mac (sometimes Bitwig and Reason for experimenting)

  • zoomu24->cubasis->tascam us2020->reaper

I had no idea - I’ve heard of N-Track for iOS but I didn’t know it was on any computer platforms. Very cool that it is cross-platform like that.

I certainly haven’t seen N-Track mentioned in any literature about computer DAWs, though. So I guess it has this in common with MTS: available on all platforms but only really known by iOS musicians. What do you think of N-Track? I’ve read both positive and negative things. (Not in the market for a new DAW but I’m always curious.)

I’m a relatively new user of Audio Evolution so I am probably not qualified to give an answer to your question, but I will say this: to say that its developer is responsive to user requests is a BIG understatement.

One feature I like in MTS is MIDI time-stretch. As I was getting to know Audio Evolution, I posted here on the forum in a big AE thread that it would be nice if AE had MIDI time stretch too....and within like 3 days the developer had added it. Never seen anything like that before!

I like MTS a lot but I’ll tell you what I don’t like about it: its lack of a normal display of tracks. I don’t mind that it doesn’t have MIDI regions, but the fact that you can’t have a normal view of your MIDI tracks all stacked together the way there is in GarageBand, Cubasis, and Audio Evolution (and nearly all computer DAWs) is annoying.

But that is really my only complaint. One thing I really like about MTS is that it felt so intuitive for me and was very easy to learn the basics. And the manual really is excellent - and readable!

  • AUM / BM3/Korg Gadget / NS2/Music studio & Launchpad > Ableton

  • Everything on the iPad most frequently through Audiobus (sometimes AUM) and Ableton. Best, easiest to connect and most stable combination of the 2. Ableton is running great on an old Mac Book Pro running High Sierra.

@LeftyChris : Ahh yes, the manual for MTS IS good. N-Track manual isn’t bad either . As for GB drummers, no .. Yiure probably not gonna find anything comparable to that on ios .

I see NS2 mentioned a lot on this forum and it’s been mentioned several times in this thread. I assume people must mean Nano Studio 2? I’ve never used it. Does it have any features that other iOS DAWs lack? Anything especially cool about it? Just curious.

    NanoStudio 2 / Logic Pro X
What NanoStudio sets apart is Obsidian. One of the best synths on iOS for me.
It also has very flexible routing options and in terms of grouping/nesting tracks it is even more advanced as Logic.
Of course it has some big letdowns but i just use it to record into Logic while midi coming from Logic too.
All i would need would be Obsidian as AUv3.

  • Cubasis 3 is our DAW of choice and we release weekly tutorial videos teaching people how to produce music in Cubasis :)

  • Gadget on iOS and MAC OS + Logic Pro X to finish.

  • I used to use AUM and Ableton as a ipad/laptop combo, but I'm at the point where all I need to make a totally finished track is AUM. Only reason I even open Ableton anymore is when I need to arrange some tracks in a timeline view (which I have hopes AUM will end up with at some point) or when I want to get instantly mad a 700$ piece of software finding some new innovative reason to not work for a half hour or more every time I try to open it on my 1,700$ lenovo P51 thinkpad. Fucking useless cunt, Ableton is.

  • iOS: Gadget, AUM (technically not a DAW but wth). Sometimes Auria or Cubasis.
    PC: Cubase Pro

Thank you everybody for the interesting responses! Some responses rather surprised me, such as this one. I would have thought most Cubasis users would also be Cubase users, but using it with Reason is an intriguing thought.

Now that you say that, I just remembered I have a lite version of cubase on my computer that I may use for project files. I really like mixing audio stems on Reason though cos I’m real familiar with it

Do you make use of Reason Compact as well?

Right now, I'm navigating between Garageband as my main DAW, and using other apps like the Ampify apps, Reason Compact, Gadget 2, Nanostudio 2 mainly because of their synth engines and design.

Cubasis, AUM, and Zenbeats are my goals for this year. Mainly because Zenbeats and Cubasis works in Android, and half of my mobile devices are Android.

In terms of desktop DAWs...idk. Am I really missing anything? I do experiment with Logic, Reason, and Ableton but I don't think I've actually made a full song with them. Thankfully it's the lite/trial versions of them. I really like being able to produce on the go.

Yeah. And I’m having different experiences with Reason Compact depending on the devices I’m using.

On my main iPad (which has the latest update since I need to test stuff), some apps like Reason Compact no longer work in Audiobus. Which is a shame because I really like the app.

On my other device (iPhone SE), it works fine.

On the iPhone 6S, the Reason update seems to have stopped it from properly working on Audiobus when it assign MIDI, but it does host it. I didn’t update Audiobus 3 because when I did that, the iPad stopped recognizing the app.

NS2 > Logic .. it’s been a happy pairing for the past 12 months, would love to see more of Logic’s features making their way to iOS though!

This is quite an interesting pairing. I take it that you weren’t thrilled with the iOS GarageBand either, hence NS2? I could never quite click with iOS GarageBand for some reason, though I used Logic for several years.

I was sending from Auria to Logic (then later on, I switched to Reaper) for a little while but I had to ditch Auria when it started making my iPad crash again and again. Eventually, I couldn’t even get projects to load in Auria. But I’m quite happy with Audio Evolution and MultitrackStudio now.

Yeah I’ve never been able to get my head around GB, after using Logic for years it would have been the obvious choice. It’s probably the restrictions/lack of features that I’m used to in Logic that held me back. But to be honest, if NS2 had audio tracks I’d be happy to do it all in one app! My laptop is dying a slow and painful death and my phone is fresh, shiny and new! :)

  • Long time Ableton user. I tried to move entirely to iPad. Still working on getting that one going, but think I am nearly there, using AUM and a set of Mozaic scripts.

  • NanoStudio 2 for composition and sound design.
Export MIDI and audio stems into Logic Pro.
If needed, in Logic Pro I replace iOS synths with desktop synths like Zebra or TAL Bassline101 (if I need an SH101 sound).

I’m experimenting with iOS Zenbeats sending MIDI loops into Logic Pro via IDAM so I essentially have Apple Live Loops but running on Logic Pro 10.4 on High Sierra on my mid-2011 iMac. So far it works great once I get everything routed in the Logic MIDI environment.

A few people have mentioned cross-platform DAWs I either had never heard of or that I didn’t know were cross-platform.

I’m curious if there are any others I might not be aware of. Here are the ones I know, including two I just learned about:

    GarageBand/Logic
    Cubasis/Cubase
    MultitrackStudio
    n-Track Studio
Zenbeats (not entirely sure if this one is a full DAW but it’s been mentioned a few times).

Am I missing any? Any other DAWs on both iOS and computer? Or that have similar versions for computer and iOS like Cubase and Cubasis?

    Korg’s Gadget.

Well, this is synchronicity - I just asked in another thread if there were any iOS DAWs aside from GarageBand that saved to iCloud and used it natively, and I just got the same answer: Gadget.

  • Ressurecting this thread....

What DAWs do you use? Has it changed since Logic Pro?
