I actually have no problem with a new thread for those who wouldn’t necessarily be following the mega thread.
Useful public service! Koala now has time stretch, auto chop for samples and a piano roll as an IAP.
Disagree with that. It's just a update. Admit, a very good one.
I disagree with your disagree. This is a great heads up that I should take a look at the update.
Well, in that case, see the thread title as a wakeup call and read/place posts in the mega thread.....:)
I definitely see the value of the mega-thread: It's a real-time repository of information being exchanged. Basically everything you want to know about Koala is in the Koala megathread. And it's thrilling to see the evolution of an app like Drambo or Koala. At least it's thrilling if you're an active part of that evolution who follows every post in the thread.
If you were somebody who was initially uninterested because Koala had no timestretch or piano roll, how would you know that it suddenly had it? You gave up on that thread ages ago, with all its minutia and incremental improvements or bizarre feature requests.
I fully endorse newsy breakout posts. Maybe we could even codify how they appear. Like maybe these threads could actually have a NEWS prefix before the thread title. People could comment on the new development with a link to the megathread. Personally, I am not inclined at all to wade through 40-odd pages of a thread to find out if it's relevant to me. But I'm definitely more right-brained than many of the engineer types here, and I would never diminish all the heavy-lifting going on in the mega threads.
I'm more concerned with zombie threads that are pulled up again years later with titles like:
"Bonzo App is Free and Changed My Life"
Only to discover that Bonzo does not work with IOS new.
Thanks for the Video... Would not have known the power of this app, after the update...Wow..
Thanks..
Short and concise...
Edit... A back button will be nice... since it's not AUV3..
I agree with your diasgree of their disagree. I would have floated by the site of that megabuidling other thread. This nice new start-up got my attention and I'm glad it did.
Koala Frenzy Rages on the ABF!
Chopping Lumbeats Drummers is fun.
Stretching "Web Radio" is surreal.
Rage on ABF Koala-Lumpurs.
It's probably even capable of making ambient tracks
but @Linearlineman will just pass because it's a beatmaker's DAW.
@McD, I have too many choices already. At each point of choice there are fifty or more good choices.
That’s why I’m headin’ toward ambient... fewer decisions.
I agree with your agreement of their disagreement of their disagree.
Why? Because Koala.
Please... no more ambient. Compose Spontaneously! Instinctive decision making
based upon brain training.
How's that dog doin'?
After watching more videos I'm beginning to see the value of Koala.
It's beautifully designed like Spacecraft Granular to allow me to work on an iPhone
and make something interesting.
And it's got IAA so you can feed it from all your other apps in AUM. I fed it some
Funk Drummer to investigate chopping for a quick drum set of samples. It works
well and will keep attracting users that make more current music.
I'm glad I bought it way back when and grabbed the "Samurai" IAP for $3. It open doors
to the sample-based workflow for this old fart.
@McD ... Spontaneous Ambience. Just you wait.
Hope the next IAP is AUV3.. great app..
I see the latest update has pocket operator sync out which is pretty cool.
Is there the possibility of AUV3 fo Koala or has that been slated as a no-no?
I haven’t looked at the Koala thread for ages - but I did click on this one - nuf said!
From what I know it's highly likely a yes to AUv3 but when is another question I have no clue about...
Spontwave?
Thanks @Samu. Regardless, this seems too cheap and like too much fun to not own. Must grab it!
Agree!
It's a blast, especially on the iPhone grabbing ambient sound using the built-in microphones.
I've always had a soft spot for Koala, it's instant gratification and super fun to use
Let's make it official
@elf_audio Will you manage to include highly anticipated AUv3 support in the future IAP? Thanks for the info.
I have never seen elf audio commit to auv3 in the future, nor have I seen him hint that he is considering it. Koala sampler was designed to be a streamlined way to get things started and create quickly, then bounce what you have to work with in a daw if needed.
Elf Audio has said on a few occasions that auv3 would cause many issues with the current UI, and he is very concerned about losing the “pick up and getting creating fast” vibe that makes Koala so fun.
I’d like to see a video of someone using these together. Seems like a lot of potential there.
Considering IAA is on the way out AUv3 is currently the only proper way forward if/when interaction with other apps is needed.
I use Koala as a 'stand-alone' but there are times I wish I could easily pipe-in synth apps and sample them into Koala.
IAA connections are bit of a hit or miss and sometimes take multiple tries before the connection is established.
(When I do need the connection it's Koala in 'Slide over view' in an FX slot in AUM).
Time will tell where things go...
And there it is! Edit - And duh, I didn't realize the iOS device's audio would pass through the PO. I thought you'd need a mixer or interface or something. Nope. Super easy to hook up.
Some apps are just going to be a lot harder to do right and have be stable as AUv3. I'd much rather have this stay standalone and stable than be constrained by the limits of AUv3. Apps of 'host-level-complexity' make sense as standalones.
