NI just dropped a new update for Big Sur so I’ve been consumed with new Mk3 features.

Wakes up with a shivering excited start.... New features for MK3?

Yep. Mostly about navigation with Clips and Patterns. Good stuff.

Update for Maschine plus should drop any minute also...I know for sure that it’s already been deployed by NI. Can’t waaaaait.

    Maschine x BM3 = ❤️

You are indeed an inspiration Mister Captain :)

  • This is a nice update! Had dusted off bm3 after the ‘bm3 is awesome’ thread, and tried working with it, mainly to make song structures of audio. Reason is because I make awesome sounds in Drambo, I get kinda stuck in loop/jam mode and resource depletion. I figured if I separate the process, and bounce the stems, I create structure in a daw. And well, since I already have bm3 and no’s more cash, why not.

One thing I can’t figure out though, and I’m pretty sure it’s still not possible, is using lfo modulation on AU’s. I’d like to add a AU filter and modulate the cutoff etc. Adding Rozeta results in no sound at all. Macro’s or AU parameters can’t be modulated by the native bm3 lfo. Am I missing something?

  • Silent AU tracks issue has been fixed finally!

I complained 2 days ago that sometimes, some of my AU plugins in BM3 become silent when I reopen a project. I tried to reload the silent plugins and select the same patch. This fixed the issue, but temporarily only. Next time I opened the 'fixed' session, the AU plugin was silent again.
After this I opened some older projects, I would say 9 out of 10 projects had this silent AU track issue...
This issue is so serious that I simply couldn't believe that it does not annoy you guys and why I can't find megathreads about it :)
So I started to think that the problem is with my iPad or the installed app became corrupted somehow, even if it was updated.
Finally I decided to remove the app (but keeping its folders and files) and reinstall.
Magic! The issue has gone. I can open any project, no silent track issue.

Hope it helps if you guys experienced this issue in the future.

Beatmaker. I didn't touch the AUs.

  • If the "Improved automations of AUv3 plugin parameters" means that bug is gone where your automation points all suddenly disappear outside of the editor, this could tempt me back to Beatmaker.

Can you describe that one in more detail, please?

  • @gusgranite It looks like @AudioGus has edited it out of his bug report here: https://intua.net/forums/index.php?p=/discussion/comment/44798#Comment_44798 which I'm taking as exciting news - but basically, as I very vaguely recall it, some AUv3 instruments use a different scale for parameter automation to BM3 was expecting, so (and I'm making these numbers up) BM3 sends an event saying set this to 127 but the instrument only expects values up to 100, and everything goes horribly wrong. Might be the other way around, instrument sends a value BM3 doesn't understand. Either way, the automation points on the editor end up outside of the editor view so you can't recover from it.

Yes. That was part of the fix. Enjoy and please let us know if you still run into this issue.

  • edited March 2021

It's possible that one or two 'unconventional' plugins may still lead to out of range automation data (in which case please let us know)... but the vast majority of plugin parameters are now all recorded and presented correctly.

It's great news indeed for BM3 and/or automation fans.

  • Amazing news @tk32 / @hansjbs. Looking forward to playing with BM3 tonight, it's been a long time.

  • Awesome. Just wanted to make sure it was the same issue before saying fixed!

Hmmm, I think I may have edited it out of this post as it was a duplicate of one that others had already submitted / explained better (or some such thing). Twas many a moon ago.

But yah, the new update fixes to automation are tight! Solid! Righteous! I spent a bit throwing whatever I could at it and all the automation value ranges, splitting/merging patterns.. sweet!

Nope 99% not possible , modulation is only for pad parameters of the sampler. Hopefully I'm wrong.

    @Frank303 said:

It's because of the (wrong) way BM3 handles midi . ( empty pads don't produce midi notes and there is no post midi fx recording )

  • I’ve spent a good part of the day with BM3 and it’s like a different app from the last time I used it. In a good way! 😆

  • @Korakios
Thanks, that pretty much confirms it. Had read about it before, but now I know the explanation. I just like to slap an lfo on some things.

Hopefully it would be top priority for the next major update :)
ApeMatrix is perfect example as a host providing LFOs for AUs
I'd suggest a workaround , but workarounds are workflow killer...

I'd love to see Atom 2 replace the BM3's built-in piano roll editor including LP support.
Maybe V can license it from the other V or something ;)

Oh, yah, it's wishful thinking but I suppose it will never happen....

Ahhhh....a few of us that knows about Atom 2 wants the same thing ask @tk32 but I wouldn’t hold my brief. Even if he licenses it from the other V I assume it would still take some heavy rewrite. Maybe for BM4 we can ask who knows.

At least from my side, I’ve built the UI with embedability in mind. It’s completely decoupled from any internals, mine or Apple’s, so any developer can treat it like a black box that does just what it’s supposed to do. Give it a width and height and optionally a set of notes. It’ll tell you when those notes change from user input. It won’t block the audio thread. That’s it!

Obviously the situation might be more complex on the other end, so I don’t know how if BM3 is architecturally ready for such changes, or a willing organ transplant recipient. But I’m happy to help making it happen if it is.

Maybe that's why Apple is taking so long to approve it. They're deciding whether to steal it or buy it. :D

Any issues with any other plugins?

Just reinstalled after a long lay off from using, I’m having problems with BeatMaker not being able to display the apple files manager in iOS 15.. anyone else experienced this?

Ignore this it’s working now, god knows what was causing it, nothing to see here 😅

OK we will, promise, but only if you report back with how you're finding the thing after such a long layoff etc...

  • What's the future for BeatMaker, does anyone know? Is INTUA still managing it?
I do use the app quite a bit, but would love to know some news about it as well

Undetermined. A few beta testers may have a hint or two but wouldn't be at liberty to discuss. Yes Intua is still managing it.

Indeed. Don't hold your breath though. This is not the most communicative developer out there.

You might want to try joining up with the Discord Server. There are signs of life over there, unlike their forum which is essentially a ghost town.
