@blueveek noticed a little workflow bummer inside Drambo. If you insert a new Drambo pattern before an existing one adding new blank patterns in Atom is a bit of a pain. ....

Agree, it's probably easier to trigger pattern changes with a note from Drambo or another clip.
Moving, inserting Drambo patterns won't change Atom pattern associated to it.

Edit: after a few edits I’m still not sure I understand what I wrote.
To make it simple avoid using PC to change patterns.

I think I agree even in the simple cases and it’s absolutely required once you get more than one atom pattern (takes/variations) per Drambo pattern/section. Also, once you get there you really do need better pattern management inside atom. It really is a pain keeping track of which atom patterns belong to which Drambo section. Also without explicit pattern management it’s (almost?) impossible to use a probabilistic master sequencer to ensure the same atom patterns play across multiple Drambo tracks.

I have to admit that I created an embarrassingly huge module chain to randomize atom pattern selection for a mult-pattern Drambo project because it didn’t occur to me until now to just use note probability in the first step of the Drambo sequencer. Off to simplify.

  • I've spent an hour reading this thread. Still haven't found the answer to my question. I have one instance of Atom2 in AUM and it contains two patterns. I can see where you set up a launch note for the CLIP in the Launch advanced settings, but I don't understand how to set up a a trigger to change patterns. I may be thinking of the whole process incorrectly, but the newest release says I can change patterns. What does that mean? Also, there's a clip menu showing in the manual that has Track/Slot/Color/Thru/Mute/Global Transpose/Latency. I thought long-pressing on the clip number would open it, but that doesn't happen. How do you open it?

  • How are folks doing velocity ramps? The only way I can see is note by note.

The pattern change settings are at the bottom of the pattern list. For the track color, thru, etc, tap where it says Clip at the top left. It's a tap, not a long press that brings it up. Places where long-press is used are indicated with a white triangle in the upper right of the box.

You can change patterns by tapping on them or via midi. You can choose to focus on a different pattern than that which is playing. This enables you to edit a pattern while another is playing, then switch to it when you're ready. Just look carefully at the icons in the pattern list. I think you'll get it, but if not, I can post some screenshots.

This stuff isn't in the manual yet. They're workin' on it.

    As @wim says...

I'm working on a manual update that will be available soon.

Apologies, but bleeding edge features, like pattern changes by midi/cc/etc will always require a little bit of experimentation and trial & error until we can get the manual updated.

Thanks for the excellent explanations, as usual, @wim ...and thanks to the other users experimenting with Atom2 and helping spread the knowledge <3

    Thx!

Dang. I thought I'd tapped, double-tapped, long-pressed... This time the tap opened it. Cool!

Below the patterns I see only: Add Default/Add Empty/Add Duplicate/Merge All. I tried each of them and don't see any kind of settings. I'm beginning to wonder if I got the update... What should I be seeing below the patterns?

Wait... OK, I see you said you could change patterns via MIDI... That may mean something different than what I think it does. How do you connect a MIDI note to a given pattern?

Wait... OK, I see you said you could change patterns via MIDI... That may mean something different than what I think it does. How do you connect a MIDI note to a given pattern?

Note numbers are assigned automatically if you select note as the switch source. The first pattern is triggered by note 0, the lowest possible midi note. Pattern 2 is note 1, etc. Now that you're on the current version you'll see the note assigned to each pattern displayed at the top of the pattern. 👍🏼

I was struggling with patterns as I couldn’t get the patterns to change
    Finally found why
This snap is my master orange atom
Make sure you check your output on the left. It was switched off for me
    Green atom is the slave
I set it to ‘Note’and then ‘10’ at the bottom of the patterns on slave
And use ‘hold’ and C0 to ‘launch note’
The patterns now change and the slave clip switches on and off
    Hope this helps
This is one option, as there are lots of ways
    Hope I haven’t confused you

I am still using the tiny style font with Atom as I don't have iCloud. I've never used it before. But I need iCloud to access Sausage mode and different styles, is that correct?

So I finally try to set up an iCloud account and apparently I can only set it up with the latest iOS which is 14 and I am on 13.7, so it will not let me open an iCloud account. And I am not in any rush to update to iOS 14 yet - and on this iPad, probably never.

So, is there any way to have any of these iCloud Atom folders available on PatchStorage, so that I (and maybe others) can drop in these things that will make Atom look different?

Your AppleId is automatically connected to iCloud. You don’t need any special account.

New pattern switching controls coming soon:

    • CCV switch source: lets you switch patterns with a single CC, using its value. Useful for e.g. switching patterns by using a rotary encoder (knob), without having to map a parameter.
    • Input offset: lets you offset the first switch input. Useful for e.g. with notes, a value of 48 means that first pattern switches with C3 instead of C-1.
    • Input spread: lets you spread out pattern switching. Useful for letting you browse through a smaller number of patterns with the entire turn of a knob (spreads the patterns across the entire range of the input). Also cool for layering using velocity – the pattern that plays depends on how hard you hit a pad.

  • I'm so looking forward to a better way of editing note-velocities in Atom 2.
The offset thing drives me nuts when trying to create velocity ramps...

Ok it's better that Cubasis 3 that doesn't even respect the selection when drawing note-velocities...
...it just sets the velocity of all note events that happen to be at the same location.

Noted, yes, this is high priority. Thanks for the nudge :)
(it's sometimes hard to balance working on things I enjoy vs. what's clearly a priority)

No worries, I know life-priorities come first and that's perfectly ok!

There's this free chord pack that uses this...
    https://github.com/Miserlou/chords2midi
...to do it's magic and it feels like it could be part of Atom 2?
(Ie. why bloat the iPad's storage with pre-rendered midi files when it could be done 'on the fly'?).

Just like one can already select a root note and scale a 'chord/progression menu' could render the midi-notes into the current pattern :) (Yeah, I know wishful thinking...).

I love Atom 2 and it makes my LPPro3 a joy to play with :)

    Cheers!

Yeah, I did design a Chords companion menu to the Scales menu a while back. I think it could either work like (and maybe even be compatible with) Xfer's Cthulhu, and/or just show all the chords in a scale (like on the LPProMk3). I'd definitely love to have something like that if the controller doesn't.

Here’s a little jam I had using atom2, launchpad pro, and an lpd8 (well, 2 knobs on it anyway!)

Amazing how much power and control you have with what is essentially 8 atom2 instances, 8 pads, and 2 knobs! (Insert casual knob joke at your leisure)

@blueveek Small bug: if you switch to draw mode and then scroll down to the lowest note and drag down and left as if you were trying to highlight the very first note 0 then the plugin crashes. Tried in NS2 and AUM:

Edit: It took all my NS2 plugin instances out, fortunately I had saved!
