I agree with Ed. It's why information is not the same as wisdom. There's a lot of stuff on the Internet, the important thing is being able to join the dots. But still, will he interesting to see how things develop

What about my Corridor Crew example? These guys using a next gen screen share back-and-forth chatting over a day?

Your post was posted just as I was writing mine so I didn't see it. Haven't heard of these dudes, sounds interesting though

Lol. Can u make them previews instead, you just do the groundwork and then I expand on them? 😂 In fact while you're at it, could you maybe just read some o' those damn manuals for me?

In certain cases, this might make a difference.

And I am talking about certain cases. Not the death of YT videos forever. (There are still sitcoms too). If we are simply talking about getting an impression about an app before you buy it I think most people will get a good enough impression by a thread chatting back-and-forth. I see this sort of thing not just being in one or two specialized apps but anywhere that people can already type. Whatever platform has the type of curating or communication you seek, well then people will just transmit what they see in front of them in those places.

But we can see in people's general disinterest in contributing or curating the wiki here that the primary gating factor is people willing to do a little work -- there are tools readily available here on abforum to make the information more productive -- but maybe 10 people (MAYBE) are willing to participate in that. I don't see how easier streaming results in either higher quality or findability.

IMO, people aren't very motivated to help the community beyond sharing a spontaneous thought and throwing it into the void.

Yeah lazy disinterested people will always bring the bar down. Now if you simply have a medium that allows enthusiasts to with zero effort convey their thoughts clearer but showing what they see directly in front of them? I think most youngins playin fortnite or COD will have zero issue with this.

I could see you, Jacob and Doug in some kind of Forum/Endlesss/Screenshare/Discord styled thingy (insert hand waving of inevitable tech to come) creating about twenty minutes of quality viewer/reader conversational-ish content over a weekend between cornflakes, mowing the lawn, spending time with the kids with near zero editing/work (edit: no more work than editing a forum post). This sort of thing will happen.

  • I think you’re right Gus. And like anything else people will find their go-to I-trust-this-cat people and/or user groups within the Wild West of streamers / beamers / sharers.

A more fluid / spontaneous / continuous hive mind version of sharing info seems inevitable and there will still be the want / need for longer form “traditional” videos too. Both seem like correct use of the internet : n )

Yah I am mainly talking about smaller ‘app of the month/week’ impulse buys where ‘word of mouth 2.0’ will suffice. For larger desktop like power apps that will inevitably show up (please?) then of course the gumroad, patreon, YT instructional megaseries kind of stuff will always be useful and sought out. That is a different kind of subject/content all together.

This tiny niche demographic of olde farts who scrutinize 5-40$ apps in their spare time will simply be satisfied by other olde farts who scrutinize 5-40$ apps in their spare time.

I laughed, I winced, and laughed again. The second wince is inbound anytime now.

I like some aspects of Gavinski's videos and appreciate that they exist, but I honestly have never watched one from beginning to end. I just don't have time to sit through hour long videos when I just want to get the gist of an app. It doesn't matter who the vlogger is. I usually just skim a bit to hopefully get a rough idea of what the app does and is capable of.

Tend to favor the quicker SoundforMore and RedSkyLullaby approach. It's great that for those who like watching over an hour's worth of app video, that efforts like Gavinski's and STR exist. I just gravitate to the shorter ones. "No time for the ol' in/out love. I've just come to read the meter."

However, it does get a little tedious that so many threads here are about Gavinski, his opinions, his videos, and defending his approach. Seriously... it's like the audiobus forum has become the Gavinski forum lately.

I mean, just look that this 6 page thread. It's all about Gavinski. Why not change the thread title to "Yes, another thread about Gavinski!" ;)

Please just let us know… is it a game changer!?!?!??

    :D >:)

  • Equally skip, there are people who don't like the sounds for more approach, for example. To each their own. I guess the youtube viewing figures show where people's preferences lie. The unfortunate result is that any comment about this is just throwing more wood on the fire lol. I have already said several times, can we just get back to the topic of the new sugar bytes app. And in fact can we not even bother with that topic and just enjoy talking about other apps til the damn thing comes out, which is nowhere near soon AND it will likely not be released on iOS at the same time as desktop, so let's all stop getting our knickers in a twist shall we
