@4Pockets thank you!
There's a new video from Paul:
Wow, some nice small improvements that will have a big impact on everyday use. And the split screen with neon looks awesome! Interested to see how that work progresses.
I'm in for the ride. Let's see how they integrate... Thanks.
@lukesleepwalker This update addresses the looping issue we were talking about according to Paul.
There’s a lot to like about Helium and its my number one editor for linear arrangement in AUM. It really is a fantastic addition for song building in AUM.
However, my #1 request atm is for grid lines below a quarter note. Currently there is nothing, so its very confusing to place short notes and even worse if using triplet values.
Compared with ATOM which has variable grid display options…
Updated and it fixes the problem on my end!
Yay, i just tested again and the v1.25 fixed the wrong-zero-sample-offset-for-notes-on-loop-start problem that i mentioned above 👍🏼
Thanks for confirming this, it is good to know that it is fixed.
One day I’ll really dive in and try to get what I want out of this app...just seems like it has too high of a learning curve for me on most days...at least to get what I want out of it.
I like the chord progressions feature...is there a way to program how long each chord is before printing up the actual notes on the timeline?
Another Helium update just out including clipboard button drag which acts the same way as it does in Neon! That and the recently added ability to copy/paste to the general pasteboard mean Helium is in a good place for sharing data between it and other sequencers.
Helium dosent seem to be able to record short arps from Drambo and the velocity output to synth isnt the same.
Have you turned quantize off (or lowered it)?
For the velocity, check the mixer value and make sure it is set to 1 otherwise the note velocities are scaled compared to what you would expect in other sequencers. It should really default to 1, IMHO.
Thanks
What do you think. Quantize off. Velocity is now ok.
Seems like Helium cant record arps?
Version 1.27 is out:
Added a new selection mode (Add & Replace). Long press the 'Select' button.
Fixed an issue with recording / undo when transport is running and record is disabled between takes.
You can now change the global transpose manually as well as with controllers (tap and hold PLAY).
The current Transpose settings are now saved with the session.
Fixed an issue with REDO over multiple channels while recording.
Added the ability to swipe over buttons to perform a default menu action.
Swipe right on 'Select' toggles the selection mode between ADD and REPLACE.
Swipe right on 'Undo' performs a REDO.
Swipe down on 'Record' enters multi-take mode.
Swipe down on 'Remote' opens the 'Define Loops' scree.n.
Swipe right on 'Clipboard' performs a 'Replicate' (replicate all notes within the loop).
Swipe down on 'Beat/Time' toggles the ruler measurement state.
Swipe down on 'Grid' to toggle between the last setting and OFF.
Swipe down on 'Quantize' to toggle between the last setting and OFF.
Swipe right on the 'Track' button toggles the 'Solo' state for the selected track.
To bring Helium in line with Neon long pressing 'Loop' now eanbles loop mode and sets the loop to encompass all notes on that track.
The originial functionality is now on swipe down (select all notes under loop).
Added feedback to the mixer to show which tracks are currently playing.
Added the ability to change tracks by tapping on the mixers track label.
Long press of 'Loop' now snaps to the nearest measure.
Added a new Launch Button Options menu to the main menu.
You can now use stacking mode with INCLUSIVE and EXCLUSIVE modes.
You can now quantize the launch starts to IMMEDIATE, BEAT or BAR.
Buttons containing swipe gestures as well as long press options are now have a coloured chevron.
When Midi Thru is enabled the remote control channel is not echoed.
Swipe down on the 'Menu' button toggles the 'MIDI Thru' setting.
Long pressing the 'Loop' button now snaps to the start and end of the nearest measure containing notes.
The controller quantize icon is now the correct image after selecting song mode.
Mixer levels are now set to 1.0 by default.
Fixed a copy/paste issue with 1 channel midi files where notes are not on track 1.
Wow, Paul's been busy--in the best possible way! The more I use Helium, the more I like it. And his continued development is welcomed, for sure. I need more info on this:
"You can now use stacking mode with INCLUSIVE and EXCLUSIVE modes."
I just scanned the manual and didn't see anything about this.
I’m sure there will be a new Helium video about this soon but if you check out his latest Neon video then you should see him demonstrate the same functionality there. Basically a way of choking instances by using AUM lanes IIRC.
That's cool, I'll check out the Neon video and see if I can figure it out. What would be super duper cool in Helium is if you could stack sequences on a channel (maybe within one of the four ports?) and set Helium to round robin or randomly play through one of them at a time. That way you could get some variation in looped sequences. Anyway, thanks for the tip.
The latest updates sets the mixer default to 1.0 which I think is the correct thing to do but may catch people out if they had tracks gain staged at a particular volume so something to be aware of.
Very nice update, thanks Paul. You will love new buttons swipe gestures!!!
So, I watched the Neon video about exclusion and inclusion--and I came away pretty chuffed about the upcoming AUM update! That said, the stacking thing for Helium is not much use to me, although I'm sure it'll be helpful to others (it's a cool trick, for sure). I'm still hopeful that Paul will consider putting some logic INSIDE of Helium to randomize between channels or even loop points. Perhaps the latter would be easier from a workflow perspective--I could record a bass part for 16 measures and then Helium randomly plays four different four bar loops (assigned to the same MIDI trigger) to keep things varied...
A BOY CAN DREAM!
Not the same thing, but have you tried probability per note in Helium? Works really well, a little bit like in Ableton Live or GB drum machine, it adds cool variations.
Launch Quantize: BAR
Does this also work for remote loop triggering?
My plan was to use one instance of Helium and use remote loops for my scenes, but I need beat or bar quantize to make my scene jumps smooth and align with scene jumps in other apps.
Yup, it works great! But I’m greedy. 😉 Instead of note probability as on/off, I want play note 1 or 33% of the time play note 2 of my choosing or 33% of the time play note 3 of my choosing. That sounds complicated to develop so I’ll take variations any way i can get them!
There's a new video from Paul:
Can I get my half time tempo now. I promise I'll be yours forever, love and cherish you and give up Atom 2 if only you could let me slow down time
It’s already possible using Helium remote/loop mode. Transport scrolling will have to always start on a first bars’s beat for proper sync. AUM’s timeline count and Helium’s one will be different, but other than that it can work well to have different tempos. See this video I just made for you to illustrate:
Wow Janosax, I didn't realize it worked like that. Works for me! Thanks for the video and taking the time. Off back to Helium and it's great midi preview function
Is it possible to copy and paste (replicate?) a loop including the midi notes from all tracks contained at one time?
Not yet. Ask Paul for it, contact is by Facebook/Messenger.
Thanks, done!
