  • That's why I'd like to sequence it from cubasis.
With cubasis acting as sequencer I could play with
my mini knobs.maybe even record out onto my mac.

    @thesoundtestroom
I used to play about on a Moog System 55 modular at music college, so I'm ok with analogue synth programming. Just wondered about the relative versatility of the two synths, since I have neither yet. I guess I'm assuming a certain amount of overlap in the sounds they can produce.

  • Wow a 55..flight deck and Tangerine Dream come to mind..Animoog is a lot of money, I was really lucky to get it for the intro price of 69 pence or 99 cents so I don't mind paying for the IAP's..but it is worth the money and at £6.99 the iMini is more than worth it and I figure that you will get a real buzz from the programming and using that with the more than adequate arp you should find it very rewarding experience..Both apps sound different but the overall feel is Moog..It does amuse me that some of the IAP's in Animoog try to recreate the old analogue feel of the MInimoog. Programming wise they are two different beasts, Animoog offers a very versatile and creative wave to use wavetable synthesis, and comes with a huge selection to choose from, and the iMini is as you know virtual analogue...both very usable..

  • Yeah, I was a bit spoilt at college. We had the Moog modular, several EMS VCS3s and Synthi As, an EMS Synthi Sequencer 256, and an ARP 2500, which I never did get to grips with. I was pretty much the only one booking time in the studio, so I had a lot of fun.

  • Do luv the way it lets you control time/feedback of delay for both left and right channels...yummy.
Seb,please do what it takes to get de bois on de bus.
The depth of this thing makes it essential.

  • mmm vintage goodness

  • Since this has been developed in co-Op with Retronyms I guess the Midi implementation is the same. You have to Midilearn the keyboard as well. Its rather unusual but works that way say with their RS4000 synth. Press Connect, then Midi, then Midi Learn and you should be able to select the keyboard, then press a note on your controller and it should be mapped. Havent tried it out..but you might give it a shot.

  • @uglykidmoe, sounds nice, gota check out your soundcloud page. I am more into trance and tech trance types :) but ambient is awesome for listening.

  • Got it working just by having virtual midi on in cubasis.
No need to map.only trouble is imini ain't got play in background so each time you switch back to cubasis the sound dies.
A shame.dont know how they could have missed that one.

Have found another reason why it needs AB.
I'm sending a midi chord sequence from cubasis and the sound is really stuttering.(similar to what ipad2 was getting before the AB update with selectable frame rates).
Thesoindtestroom touched on this in his video with imini going monophonic when in retronyms.it seems to really struggle with polyphonic sound for some reason ..?
Fine when played on its own keyboard but doesn't like it when triggered from cubasis.

  • Yeah, if you try to do too much in tabletop it freaks out on my iPad 2, and it does kinda spoil the fact that you have all these great poly sounds coming from the iMini and you cant use em.

It doesn't seem to mention anything about the imini's poliphony in the in-app manual.
    Can't be that?
Seems to be lacking a few horses somewhere.

This is surely a game changer...What next, jp8, tr808, cs80 for ipad ..... iPhone ?? Bring it on boys !

  • The Modular and SEM for me please. But with all the nice goodies like Audiobus and without having to use Tabletop ;)

  • I think Tabletop without Audiobus integration could be the biggest competition for Audiobus.

If Tabletop had Audiobus integration then this would be nullified.

Also what does the move by Arturia to choose Tabletop whilst appearing to overlook Audiobus say?

    Interesting movements in IOS land.

I'm not dissing TT but the more I look at it/try it the less keen I am on it. I don't want to be locked into a system and it sounds like imini is being constrained by it, so even if TT got on the bus I don't think you could get its full output. So sadly I'm going to pass on this for now. And TT isn't available on the iPhone which is another issue

    .

  • people which are familiar with modular synthesis who like to work on iPad might consider Audulus. An open environment for patching stuff. As sound source or effect in Audiobus as well.

  • good suggestion. Audulus is a hell of an app, and there's a mac version too!

  • I might, if I ever upgrade from iOS 5.1.1

I love to have MY minimoog on my iPads, but there are 2 things I don´t like:

1.: in scale mode when you hit the black line between the keys you don´t hear any sound...

2.: the gypsy scale ( also called "Hungarian minor" in ThumbJam) is not compatible with iKaossilator, Kaossilator 2, Magellan and Animoog.

With key C selected there should be a "B", not "B flat".

  • @simon very good points made i think it may be as you said about Tabletop making nothing as per Auria and the Fabfilter plugins.

If it had been Audiobus compatible i would have purchased it straight away but I can wait for Audiobus......or do I try it out in tabletop whilst I wait for the update.....hmmmm...(strokes chin).

  • It's a minimoog for the price of 2 lattes at Starbucks !!!!!

  • oops, just forgot to say:

I would love imini even more with AudioBus!!!

  • enc:ehm,no.It's a virtual emulation of a Minimoog and doesn't come close to the real thing. But i'm sure you know that already ;)

  • @Crabman

played it first time in the 1970s...

  • PaulB: do it quick while you can stil jailbreak!

  • @enc haha very good point.....so tempted....

  • Quote from one of the Arturia team on discchord

"We appreciate all the feedback here. As far as AudioBus goes, we love collaboration standards. We helped develop the AudioCopy standard with Sonoma Wire Works. We also worked with Korg on the WiST standard. Our goal is to make music creation great on the iPad. Instruments are ment to be played together! However software and collaborations take real time. AudioBus is relatively new to us, and we have a very focused team with limited resources. I hope we can address these requests as we learn more about it."
