  • To Arturia, a plea: Please, pretty please, not only AudioBus but a good and complete Virtual MIDI implementation? Without which it is a stand-alone App, one that requires unloading other Apps to use. (not really considering TableTop for solving this. I've tried that and it does not do Virtual MIDI, only CoreMIDI to Network or CCK external devices). Currently although it sees something, the iMini MIDI Connect dialog shows Virtual MIDI ports as "Unknown Device, Unknown Endpoint". MB also does not see any ports at all published by iMini.

  • The iMini would be even more incredible with Audiobus - that is a no brainer for everybody in terms of integrating it into your iPad workflow but just as a standalone app this has to be the 'best' sounding synth on iOS to date - seriously.. hook up a hardware midi controller (or not) and just play this thing. It sounds amazing. Personally I don't think you can even compare this to Animoog - to me it is utterly different in every sense - I love Animoog too but I find it often sounds thin and very digital compared to iMini.
The iMini is currently monophonic in Tabletop which was an initial disappointment for me but then I thought to myself.. 'wasn't this synth originally monophonic anyway?'
We all agree that Audiobus is like a dream come true for iOS music production and workflow but please don't let a lack of Audiobus support cloud your judgment when buying apps. You will be missing out on quite a lot.

  • Have to agree.to date and sound wise, this is the best ios synth.
Does need to implement midi tho...and free itself from tabletop and if it doesn't make it on the bus,at least add copy/paste.

  • This is my next track working on "work in progress" that I use iMini & iMPC in Tabletop and exported in Auria:

I like very much iMPC & iMini sounds but I think that if Retronyms make AudioBus compatibility do something against their own interests, because I think don't use anymore Tabletop but working directly in Auria....
I think his goal is to make AB compatibly in Tabletop for force me & other to use it, and for me is same cool thing :-)

  • So last night I spent an hour dialling in a nice phat bass patch. Wanted to record it so I moved over to TableTop and loaded up iMini there. No user patches present. Back to stand-alone - there is my patch. quit and restart everything, still patch present stand-alone and not present in Tabletop. Bummer. Only solution would have been for iMini to have AudioBus.

I coud live with mono for each iMini instance in Tabletop. But not without my patches.

  • @dwarman, you have to thank Apple for that :) that's the downside of Sandboxing App's like Apple does from a user perspective. Your User directory Patch lies within the folder structure of iMini on your iPad. Due to sandboxing Tabletop does not have access to this, so when Starting iMini from within Tabletop your able to use it in that context because of the coding but the user directories will never be open from one app to another.

  • That would not be a problem with an Audiobus compatible version. :)

  • Guyz, back in the days when I started to make music this synthesizer did cost a fortune to get a hold of and there was no Preset Memory or the like, you simply dialed in the patch you wanted then recorded it.
So plug in your ipad out into your DAW and just record it, for 9.99 Dollars this is a gift. Too much flexibility destroys creativitiy.

  • And I am quite young, music historically speaking..this is a new age, just enjoy it.

  • I am not assuming anything :-) just saying that we are spoilt with possibilities. When i started making music you did not get anything done with 1300 USD. So sit back an relax, Audiobus will come for sure :)

  • I agree that we are spoilt with possibilities. If an app doesn't have the features you want then just move on. There are plenty of great synths already available for use on the bus. There is no use in getting upset about how App X doesn't do such and such; especially with synths. I can see why people might want a MiniMoog app, but personally I'll be passing on it even if it gets on the bus. I have iMS20 and iPolysix on the pad (and miniMonsta on my laptop), but I am much more interested in seeing what new things can be done with the touch screen/iPad. Wavemapper and Animoog are awesome. And no one can say that they don't sound like the "real" Wavemapper or Animoog because there aren't any such things.

Well, I for one am not complaining. If iMini gets on the bus, I may get it, or not. I was just observing that Audiobus seems like a better methodology than TableTop, as it is not limited by Apple's sandboxing architecture.

@OliverImseng Way back in the days when I started to make music, there were no synthesizers. I had to blow down a wooden tube that had no line out socket and required using a microphone if you wanted to record it. So get your mic out and start blowing... :)

  • @PaulB i kind of saw that coming :) can't blame you though :)

Lol. Thinking about it, my oboe cost more than my iPad.

  • Yes, but it never needed re-charging.

  • True, but I did. :)

  • I'm simply voting with my wallet - I've decided not to get it until it plays nice with my other apps.
