Thanks for letting me know! That's really strange... but also super cool! I feel like I don't understand these algorithms at all lol
In top 200? That would be really great! It's not in my App Store, but US market is the one I aim, so that really really good I guess Thanks!
@AntoninCharvat I've just won a copy of this app (thanks @MobileMusicPro) and a few questions popped up.
Would it be possible to add an option to show what key was used for the randomized pattern?
Being able to select between Minor/Major key could also be pretty handy? (Sad/Happy Mood?)
When using the record function being able to synchronies the start & stop to bar boundaries for 'perfect loops' would be nice
Cheers & Thanks for creating the app!
/Samuel
This is something I’ve long wanted. What key the beat is in… Vital to the taking the clip and adding/expanding on it.
Well in the early stages of development I’ve made some design decisions which disallowed to set key at all. During the development I’ve realized it will be needed so right now I’m redesigning the entire algorithm of that part of app which is responsible for keys/chords and progressions. Soon everything will be customizable and I believe the generated output will be overall better and more consistent
New demo and Giveaway
Awesome! I was wondering if it would be too much trouble to have a way to start and stop playback while editing in the piano roll. It’s a bit cumbersome to have the thing going non stop and having to wait for the playhead to come back around just to hear changes
Also when I export the beats as midi, the files show up as “exportedbeat-5, etc” rather than what I named the beat. Sorry if this has been addressed or mentioned before
Well in the latest version you can set the currently edited bar in the piano roll to repeat (there is a button right next to the zoom button) so you don't need to wait for the whole track to return to this bar. There is also a small play button to start or stop the playback. This should help you while editing, I believe! If you need to edit a different bar, you might swipe up the current bar to switch it and navigate to the desired bar while staying in the current position (not sure if I'm expressing myself correctly, let me know if you need more help).
Yep, in the next version the file naming conventions are completely revamped. There is a name of the beat, BPM and a key of the current track.
Awesome, thank you!
Cool cool
Great.. looking forward…Thanks ..
@AntoninCharvat You da MAN! Da beats Slam all day long. Thanks for hooking us iPad Midi Warriors UP!
Before I start to dig deeper…
…does this app have a built-in sondfont that can be ‘extracted’ for accurate midi playback using a sound font player like BS-16i in say Cubasis?
(Extracted all the samples, so after midi-import I can roughly re-create it in 'destination daw' such as BM3, sweet!)
Awesomeness.
Looking forward to the updates, especially the key customisation and naming convention.
Nope, there is no such thing as soundfont in Beatly, sorry. All samples are separately and independently hardcoded
Btw how have you extracted all the samples?
It's pretty easy actually and no jail-breaks are needed...
Download the Apple Configurator 2 app from the AppStore.
Download & Install an app to your device, if it's already installed you can either replace it or...
Navigate to...
~/Library/Group Containers/K36BKF7T3D.group.com.apple.configurator/Library/Caches/Downloads/ACUDownloadFileOperation/
...and make a copy as the *.ipa file will only stay there as long as the dialogue is open, once it's closed the file is deleted.
(As for dealing with the *.ipa file, it's just a *.zip file with a payload folder with the app-bundle in it, the rest is easy to figure out).
As a developer one way to protect the content is to store it in an encrypted file and extract it on first launch.
Sure there's no straight forward way to know which samples were used but at least it's easy to pick a few favorites and map the to BM3 pads after the midi-file is imported
I have to say it's a very nice app. I can't 'rate it' since I won it and apps downloaded with pro-codes can't be rated
But it's a solid 4 starts when my brain gets beat-blocked
Cheers!
@AntoninCharvat I guess you're aware that when exporting stems the files have no file extensions and it has to manually added in order to be able to preview them, also there's a bit of empty space in the beginning?!
Suggestion here would be to add an option to save the stems, loops or midi directly on device to a folder that can be accessed using Files.app. This would also make it easier to back & share up saved creations among other things and could even include a folder for user samples
Looking forward to where this app goes, it definitely has potential!
Cheers!
@Samu, wow, that's pretty cool way to have even more fun with the app! I think I'm not going to encrypt the content so it's available to anyone interested. Btw thanks for the virtual decent 4 stars!
And yes, I'm aware of this bug and it's already addressed in the next release I am preparing right now. Empty space at the beginning of the stems is on purpose. There is no such silence when the "loop" mode is used.
I'm pretty sure this is possible now, isn't it? I'm using a native UIActivityViewController which provides a standard interface for users to share or save the files literally anywhere. Am I missing something?
Yepp that works, but I feel it would be a bit faster to directly save to a 'Beatly Pro' folder without extra sharesheet roundtrips (Ie. one new folder per export with the 'beat/saved name').
Think, create a few random beat/beats, export stems, loop & midi with one tap them pop into Cubasis or another DAW import the needed files (audio or midi) making it easy to mix and match content from multiple beats.
The filenames could include the 'beat name'-'track-type'(drums/bass/keys/lead)-key & bpm making it a breeze.
I'll explore the export options a bit more, loop stems could be an option, I suspect a 'loop' is one of the 8 bars?
(but it could also be the entire 8 bar chunk as a loop?).
Considering the included sounds they would be quite suitable for other styles as well?
(Sorry for my brain-farts but that usually happens when an app 'clicks' with me).
Cheers!
Haha, no problem, keep it coming! Feedback is what I need to make Beatly the best app on the App Store lol
@eylvy
Awesome session, thank you! Lots of great tunes you got there!
Beatly Pro 1.11 is OUT!
Chiptune for everyone!
Now you can change the generator style to Chiptune and have fun with a cool retro 8-bit-like sounds.
Also key is visible right on the main screen!

Thank you.. Thank you.. Digging in.. The Key Scale thing looks great…
Really appreciate the update, this app is just a bucket load of fun! I’d say for what it’s worth, if you really wanna go for the gold, live midi out would pretty cool. But yeah, I can tell the new algorithm is definitely spitting out more harmonious stuff, good job.
So happy to see key and scale, cheers mate.
Chiptune! Very cool!
Thanks for the update ❤️
@AntoninCharvat You keep beefing up the algorithms, adding more sounds, I’ll pay for that stuff as IAP. Would be nice to select major or minor. Anything to make it more fun making beats within the app, cranked out two last night, tons of fun.
Thank you guys.
Thank you! Personally I am not a fan of IAP. Never have, never will. I believe that if you buy something, you should get everything that's part of it, including upgrades. Maybe I am a bit of old-fashioned, but I will develop Beatly until I (and you of course) will be fully satisfied with the final product (and that's in very distant future so far lol). There will always be a one-time payment for my apps. If you really want to help me and support me, spread the word about Beatly, tell your friends, record a video for your Youtube subscribers, tag Beatly Instagram in your stories etc... For me, right now, the most valuable thing is to get to as many interested people, as possible
Hey I’m all for that
