I had second thoughts about "Mother!". I will watch it in some distant future when
I need to renew my faith in Jennifer Lawrence as a actor.
So, my sanity is still hanging by a slender thread.
Speaking of slender threads... let's feed this one: has anyone created a project on SoundCloud that benefits from Cubasis 3.3 Side-chaining?
I think that‘s not true. I just tried it. Not every kind of edit but I normalized, trimmed, stretched and transposed. When after all these edits I add the file again to the audio track then it is still the original version without the edits, completely unchanged. To store the edits to disk I need to use the To Media function in the editor. Anyway the edited parts are made persistent as you can quit Cubasis and when you start it again the situation is unchanged and the edits are still there and also the file in the media bay is still unchanged. I think this persistence is happening somewhere under the hood in the project but does not modify the files in the media bay unless you explicitly store them.
When you do destructive edits Cubasis (Trim & Normalize or Fade In/Out in the audio editor) Cubasis creates a new file.
You can see this with the added (x) added to the event names after the destructive edit is done.
Cubasis always creates a backup-copy of the file when a destructive edit is done.
This is used by for example the undo function.
The point is not about 'editing' but about the actual 'selection' in the Audio Editor.
I'll attach a few pictures to illustrate...
In this example the Audio Event is split in 3 parts...

...when I open the audio event in the middle in the editor the whole file is selected.
The desired behaviour would be that the audio-editor would have the area used by the Audio Event selected like this.

Hopefully this makes it a bit more clear.
Cheers!
It’s a big upgrade and getting progressively bigger!
I’ll call out a few improvements I think are important:
Higher resolution in the timeline - with 3 I have no problem time aligning imported audio and trimming.
Groups, instrument multiple outputs and side-chaining.
MIDI routing to effects (harmonisers, vocoders, etc)
Multi-core audio engine (if you have a monster iPad)
Hopefully no one gets me wrong, I love Cubasis for what it is but 'the small things' trigger my OCD in a not so pleasant way...
...I want as much as everyone else for Cubasis to be the best it can be!!!
Sorry in advance to @LFS who does an admirable job keeping in touch with the community.
(The above two pictures are the best way I can describe the issue with the audio-event not being 'selected' when opening the audio-editor).
Cheers!
/Samuel
YES +YES
With the natural addition that 'Save To Media' could optionally save the selection.
So when tapping a 'Save To Media' we would get the option to select between 'selection' and 'all'.
I'm too used to working with region makers in Logic and re-using different regions from an audio file by a simple drag'n'drop from the projects Media Pool to the arranger.
(This is another 'thing' that could be in Cubasis Media Bay, ie. 'Project Assets' allowing easy re-use of stuff already in the project without needing to duplicate files when dragging them in from the other areas of the Media Bay).
Need to calm down now...
Sidechaining implementation is fantastic and transparent. Such a huge feature.
I don’t agree with @McD regarding Zenbeats, it’s not only the clip launching (which is exceptional) but also things like the drum sequencer that Cubasis lacks. That said, this update has improved Cubasis dramatically. Sidechaining, group tracks and far better UI than Zenbeats (long pressing depressing) has done it. So if it wasn’t for clip mode Cubasis 3 is way ahead now IMO.
@krassmann can you comment or point me to info on the Multicore processing and what it means?. Does it allow more tracks and instruments compared to daws that don’t implement it?. It’d be curious to see a comparison.
@LFS will the classic machines get multi output soonish ?
An amoeba (/əˈmiːbə/; less commonly spelt ameba or amœba; plural am(o)ebas or am(o)ebae /əˈmiːbi/), often called an amoeboid, is a type of cell or unicellular organism which has the ability to alter its shape, primarily by extending and retracting pseudopods.
That would be a fantastic addition together with an option to tune the samples(pitch-bend kinda works but still...).
Icing on the cake would be an 'empty machine' that allowed loading samples from the Media Bay.
Many want to coach 'Baby Cubasis' but it's Daddy Lars who's in charge
@Samu Can you achieve your timeline trimming by selecting the region and performing an Audio Freeze between locators ?
I get what you would like to happen, but in the absence on that, wouldn't it give you a trimmed file that was selected in the way you want when you go into the editor ?
I do not know if they are, but if the Cubasis team are working to ITIL practices, then they will be prioritising bugfixes based on the severity of the bug, and how many users it is affecting. This 'bug' is not very severe, it does not cause damage to projects, files or devices, although it could be argued that is affecting your health
. It is also probably only seen as an issue by a low percentage of users.
I am sure that if more users saw this as an issue, or if the Cubasis team were doing work on the Audio Editor for other reasons then they would assess what effort is involved in satisfying your request.
@Lars and the team are doing huge amounts of work on Cubasis, still delivering features that have been on the list since I first started using Cubasis back with version 1, MIDI control of the mixer for example. This shows how long the list of requests must be.
@tahiche there is this old thread where Lars explained some details from CB multi-core rendering and settings best practices
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/42746
Yes, the multi-core rendering should result in a better performance, more tracks and synths at once. Don't you have an iPad Pro? Then this feature should be available. Can it be that it is just turned off? As Lars explained:
In the Setup under Audio, “Audio Engine Latency” must be enabled in order for Cubasis to perform multi-core rendering.
User @Paa89 made some interesting tests with the multi-core rendering and he was able to do 70 audio tracks with some FX on an iPad Pro 2018. I don't know how much this test setup could handle with the multi-core feature turned off.
Relying on spell-check is risky... That should be "its pitfalls", not "it's pitfalls". I LOVE your writing style, btw. It's (see what I did there?) always a pleasure to read your posts.
I worry that seeing something too many times in print (like the dread "its" vs "it's") eventually pollutes our eye-brain filter.
and brilliantly, this could only come from someone whose nick contains the word plankton!
Oh didn't know about the multi core audio engine. That's a biggy as I have the pro.
Thanks
Well, for starters 'Freeze' creates a stereo file from a mono recording and also applies the track effects to it.
Most of the time it's just a matter of normalizing or reversing a portion of a recording and having to 're-do' the selection is just...
...I mean it's better to tackle the issue at the source rather than create a massive list of 'work arounds'.
If Cubasis had 'non-destructive' audio-event based normalize and reverse things would be a LOT easier!
Non-Destructive normalize would need a 'Clip Volume' that goes past 100% (Both Cubase and Logic do this).
For Non-Destructive Reverse it's a matter of playing the region backwards, like a sampler that has a 'reverse' option.
I've used the work-arounds for too long and start to get tired of them when it should 'just work' like in just about any other 'normal' DAW.
To me personally the somewhat lackluster audio-editing as as 'annoying' as the lack of 'tempo/signature/chord track' is to those who scream for it, not to mention Link Support which I do get can be tricky to add. Cubasis tempo caps at 240 Link at 999 and I don't know how well the time-stretch is implemented for 'realtime adjustment', I know it can be done with the Elastique SDK.
I want it all too and I do get that with limited development resource the prioritization can sometimes be tricky
We'll have to wait and see where things go!
Take Care,
Yes those would be great too!
I do have a Pro, but I can’t see the setting. Maybe it’s enabled and hidden on the pro?. I don’t have the setting regarding multi core that was mentioned somewhere.

I’ll check the video and link, thanks!.

@LinearLineman generally corrects my entries with class and tact.
He and I just did a jig on the "waiting on tenterhooks" idiomatic expression since we are experiencing heightened anxiety waiting for Loopy Pro and Cubasis 4.0 and Logic Pro and our new M1 devices.

I know @jakoB_haQ appreciates the extra time on the front page as we fall into the weekend when the gainfully employed fall into the forum to catch up. We really should give @jakoB_haQ some Patreon or BandCamp input, right? He's a true video star, that continues to kill radio stars as a given.

I thought I’d give it another go based on this thread but damn I don’t know how anyone can put up with this app. Started a new project, added one lane with the built in 808 on it and tried to play in a basic Miami bass beat but the lag was so bad I could see it let alone hear it. Opened the piano roll editor to try to put the notes where they should be and holy cow hand editing note positions is such an awful, slow drag as I wait for that damn bounding box every time. Three minutes in and I wanted to cry and pour one out to the memory of Cubasis 2 on iOS 12, when the app worked and didn’t sap all the creative juice out of your soul with bouncing boxes.
Excellent video JakoB...thanks..
As is one done by Steinberg.
Just need tempo track and we’re talking!
IOSSOS.
The DAW defines the workflow by design.
Force your workflow into some DAW's and expect little resulting work and very little flow.
I have only produced a few things with Cubasis 2 or 3... mostly collaborations with artists that will use nothing else so I had to find a way to finish my contribution. There was no way out.
Resign yourself to a DAW and there will, with time and effort become a flow that produces works.
Meanwhile, I'll probably being cranking out crap at a rapid pace in AUM. Missing elements are being added as AUv3 functions at an alarming rate.
LK and Koala are extremely useful with scenes, pitch controls, loop triggering and more.
Inspired by the music of the Spotify "Sleep" channel I'm digging into 4Pockets MIDI Mixer to
make sounds that have no attacks... just overlapping swells of pure pitch. I find the "Sleep" music to be too distracting but I think I can make tracks that have to discernible "events" just slowly shifting textures. AUM with Automation recording should do that... or just very slow out-of-phase LFO's on the Volume sliders for that matter.
I have a desperate need for sleep tools due to some events beyond my control.
Spanking the Monkey. It starts out as a light-hearted coming of age romantic comedy, then gradually gets darker and darker at every beat until the end.

TV BINGERS: Run. Do not walk to stream "Gangs of London". You will need AMC+ access at this point. It's like a John Wick serial made by a genius: a martial arts Scorcese masterpiece with heavy overtones of Shakespeare for motivations. It comes from the mind of Gareth Evans, director of "The Raid" and it's sequel, "The Raid - Redemption". Seriously, good film making and story telling in a serialized form. Not for the faint hearted.
