    Funky! Thank you Jon.

  • Thanks! Lots of new features coming soon!

  • @jon_bell not sure if its been brought up, but anyway to lock functions? A way to set key and tempo and then change through presets without adjusting key and tempo?

  • You can lock which parameters are randomly generated when pressing the "Random" button but you can't do the same thing with presets unfortunately. It would be quite easy to add though, I'll put it on the to-do list!

  • @jon_bell oh great, i didnt realize, will check it out. And thanks for considering adding my request, and all you have done with the app already. one of my most used apps now, truly fun and inspiring, awesome job!

  • Hey @jon_bell how’s the latest update coming on? Any news on what new treats we have in store?!

  • A big update is nearly ready. It's almost finished, I'm just fixing a few bugs now. Hopefully will have it uploaded by the weekend.

The main new feature is that you can use multiple scales, arpeggios and key changes throughout a riff. So for example you might have one measure of Em minor pentatonic then two and half beats of a C major arpeggio then one and a half beats of a D major arpeggio.

Here's a quick demo of using chord progressions and key changes in riffs:

There are two new sliders: palm muting and motif. Motif is used to determine how much repetition there is with the rhythm and melody motifs. The range and run sliders have been rebalanced to be more effective too.

There are loads of new presets and I've also added a feature suggested by @shinyisshiny that lets you lock any parameters when you scroll through presets. For example you could lock the tuning and that won't change as you move through different presets.

    Sounds and looks really good.

Is the harmony guitars feature also gonna be exportable?

I’d definitely recommend putting a “tip” option in the app. You deserve extra payment for all your hard work!

  • Thanks! The harmony guitars can now be exported in audio but not yet as midi (will be in the next update hopefully).

Now all I need is tremolo picking then I’ll never need a real guitarist again!

  • awesome, thanks again for all the effort you have put into this app, as others have mentioned, please do consider adding a tip jar!

  • Great update. Loads of fun and I’ve barely even dug my nails in!

    Thanks @jon_bell

  • Awesome update cheers @jon_bell

  • @jon_bell The palm mute slider is pretty buggy. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t. What’s more, the powerchord slider often adds palm mutes too.

Also, any chance of adding an “add rest” option in the chord progression editor?

  • I'll take a look at the palm muting and make sure it's working correctly, thanks for letting me know.

Adding rests is a great idea and should be easy to add. I'll put it on the to-do list!

I’ve had a further play around and it seems to me that all powerchords are subjected to palm muting regardless of slider position. Is this a big or am I doing something wrong?

  • The slider works only on normal notes, not powerchords. Whether a powerchord is palm muted is actually based on the length of the note. If the powerchord rings out for longer than 428ms the note is played without palm muting, faster powerchords are always played palm muted. After lots of tweaking in choose that number to give the most realistic sound to the powerchords, slow palm muted powerchords and fast non-palm muted powerchords can both sound a bit strange.

The way the slider works on single notes is when it's 0 there is no palm muting. When it's 10 every note is palm muted. The other slider values set the point that the palm muting comes in. Lower values means palm muting just on the low notes, higher values will means palm muting cut off is higher so higher notes will be palm muted too.

Hopefully that makes sense, it's not the most intuitive system!

Country, Reggae? Bit of an ask really! As a guitar player, I must say this is a ridiculously good app. Bought today after new update, thanks🎲

Definitely will be adding country in future. Reggae is a bit harder as it uses a lot of strummed chords (something I've deliberately left out of Riffler). Are there are any examples of single note reggae riffs you can suggest?

Not sure if this helps, but I was thinking maybe focusing on the melodic basslines might make it more possible? Some examples:

Just throwing it out there! :)

  • Thanks for the tracks, I'll take a listen!

Nice! I had no idea. That's exactly what I need.

@jon_bell Hello! I am so impressed and excited by Riffler. Nice work! It sounds fantastic. I'm having a lot of fun with it but am experiencing two frustrating situations.

First, the menu doesn't seem to want to come up consistently. Many times I will tap on the menu icon after first launching it and nothing will happen. Also the bottom menu won't respond when that happens. This is on an iPad Air 3 running iOS 14.7.1.

Second, it is quite challenging to sync this up with other things right now. Any tips? I know I saw you mention AUv3 may be coming eventually which would be very cool but any plans for Ableton Link? That would save so much time and frustration for me. Also, please add support for fractional tempos to 2 decimal places.

    Thanks again!

  • @jon_bell how do locks work with random? Hitting Create or Random again with only one half bar unlocked seems to change locked parts as well?

  • Hi,

It's great to hear you like the app but I'm sorry to hear you're having problems. I'll try and get a fix sorted ASAP.

Does the menu come up eventually if you keep tapping or does the whole app freeze and need restarting? Are you using a mouse?

It terms of syncing the best option right now would be to export the audio file then import it into your DAW of choice. I'm actually working on Ableton Link at the moment so I'm hoping it will be available soon. Once that is completed I'll be focusing on getting the AUv3 finished.

I'll add the decimal tempo to my to-do list, it shouldn't be a big job.

  • Tapping random will turn off all the locks but it probably makes more sense to keep them now that I think about it.

I'll include that in the next update as it is literally one line of code that needs changing!
