If it is only in CB3 that you are seeing the issue with recording Polybeat output then it could be related to this:
https://forums.steinberg.net/t/3rd-party-issue-notes-dropped-when-generated-by-midi-plugins
Interesting. Thank you. DrumComputer dumps its midi notes reliably into Cubasis piano roll.
Now this. Why does the kick drum on 14 only sound on every other sweep through? If I move it to 15 it plays every time! I don't understand. Am I missing something basic? Chance is on 100%
@FPC Probably the SKIP parameter of that kick drum note is set to two.
No unfortunately. Skip is 0. Thanks for the suggestion though. Refund beckons![:( :(](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/frowning.png)
Edit: something is definitely broken. For simplicity I removed the clap and all the kicks. Placed a kick back on 14 - same result: plays alternate sweeps.
Next move the solitary kick throughout positions 1-16. Result? Plays absolutely fine on every position except 14 and 16 where it sounds on alternate sweeps!
All the lower screen parameters were set the same.
@FPC Hmm, mysterious.
I just check tried in AUM and Cubasis 3, but on my iPad Pro 10.5/IOS 14.8.1 polybeat didn‘t auto-skip beat 14 or 16.
Like in your video, I used the FAC Drumkit mapping and the given BD/CP pattern and also tried single BDs on all 16 positions played by FAC Drumkit
.
Did you check if the bug/behaviour also happens in a different host or with a new project/session ?
I only use Cubasis but will try hosting in something else... BUT I just checked back on Cubasis and I had a 2 bar loop set up for some reason. When I looped it at just one bar it played it back fine: all positions (1-16) sounded every time.
This shouldn't make any difference should it? Surely Polybeat's 16 steps equal 1 bar on Cubasis so setting the loop to 2 bars should just play Polybeat's 16 step twice. Identically.
There's no pattern changing or anything going on here - all other patterns are blank anyway.
This could be a Cubasis issue TBH.
good suggestion, it didn't occur to me that you might accidentally tap the wrong button and mess up your pattern. undo/redo isn't implemented yet but it's on my list.
I checked and I'm able to reproduce the issue. Only happens in Cubasis, though. I'm aware that Cubasis sends some unusual sequencer information compared to other hosts, I will look into it.
Thank you I’d really appreciate that. Have a look at this video too. Really strange but there’s extra claps on the 2nd play through only of a 1 bar loop!
When I took out the hihat on step 3 (where the extra clap seems to be triggered) it all went crazy for one play through but then wouldn’t repeat it’s histrionics!
Air 3, latest OS, all apps up-to-date
I’m trying to find out if there is a way to minimize the bar at the bottom… does anyone know of a way to minimize that accent velocity etc panel and see more of the sequencer?
If not @cp3 that would be a really great addition to this great app. Especially for smaller devices. I just tried to use on iPhone and could only see a couple lines of the sequence without scrolling. I like to punch a sequence in, then adjust parameters so it be way cool if you could minimize that panel and then maximize it to open it up. This would really help my work flow with the app. Also if people like it up permanently they wouldn’t have to minimize it. Maybe Still leave the minimized bar on screen but a small line across the bottom that you can tap and it goes back up. That be dope. Cheers!
@cp3 - Still love this app, but as others have said, minimizing the parameter bar would be so helpful. Not being able to see each track of the step editor is a huge bummer, especially with a map like FACDrumkit where I have to keep scrolling up and down to match BD/SD hits across the different lanes.
Also, I've noticed issues with "Skip" acting differently on different tracks. For example: I had an open hat, and two snare hits on the last 3 beats of a sequence (14, 15, 16 respectively), all set to "1" on Skip. The snare hits play on the first loop, but the open hat skips it, so they were alternating and never played into each other like I wanted them to. (This happened while hosted in AUM, sequencing FAC)
Finally, any chance we could get a non-Dark mode? The bright colors on black are tough to look at for more than a few minutes at a time (especially when head scratching/trouble shooting).
(Also hoping cykle is still on track to get the same pattern switching capabilities as polybeat)
I love polybeat @cp3 but I’m dying to minimize that “parameter bar” at the bottom... lots of the time I want to see the whole sequencer, with the ability to open and close the parameter section. Any chance for adding that feature? It would really improve/speed up my workflow with the app.
Yea, totally agreed.
it's coming in the next update!
I made Polybeat the focus of last nights livestream.
Really appreciate that you address so many user requests!
Yay! Great! Will be MUCH more usable in iPhone's landscape mode now. As to Polybeat itself being such a great controller it
would be also nice if there was a way to continuously 'paint in' steps and events similar to Octachron.
More importantly, @cp3 doesn't blindly create a feature-creep 'Franken-App' by being responsive to user feedback. The features he adds feel like a natural extension of the app's DNA.
Great news and Thanks!
@cp3 I might have mentioned this already, but it’d be great if you could trigger patterns to play instantly unquantised (rather than switching instantly) - this way the quantising can be handled by a daw or something like loopy pro.
not sure what you mean here? what's the difference between switching instantly and 'play instantly unquantized'?
Basically if you send the ‘switch instantly’ message on the first beat of the bar, it doesn’t play the first beat in the sequence. It’s a problem with a lot of sequencers. I think it’s because you’re switching patterns at the exact time that the first beat would play so it just misses it by a tiny amount of time.
This doesn’t happen with hammerhead. It ‘triggers’ the pattern rather than ‘switching’ to it, therefore you hear the first beat.
Does that make sense?
I love polybeat, it’s everything I need in a drum sequencer, apart from this one issue. I’ll use it to sequence all my drum apps if this is implemented.
Version 1.2 is out:
I missed this thread. I was so excited about the update I resurrected a different one. My bad.
Excellent update. Tip jar activated! I use Polybeat all the time and this update is only going to make the experience even more smooth and enjoyable.
FAB UPDATE!:) thnx !!!!
I have a problem when using the copy paste function. When I copy a pattern (e.g. pattern C) the paste function only works on that same pattern where I originally copied it from. I am not sure if I am looking at this the wrong way, to me it sounds rather redundant to only be able to copy and paste at the same exact place. So if I want to copy pattern C into pattern E for example, I cannot do that. Is that right? Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a quick search and could not find it.
2) Is there a way to input midi notes into polybeat (e.g. from Atom Piano Roll 2)?
3) Is there any way to change the pitch of whatever sound we are triggering from inside polybeat? I know I have notes to control a synth, but I was talking about doing this when triggering a hi hat for example in FAC or Digistix. I love the app as it is, but I think that something like that would be pretty sweet
@cfour the copy/paste function is to copy entire patterns between different instances of the AUv3. you can duplicate a snapshot (e.g. C) by long pressing the cell and tapping ‘duplicate’.
nope
this depends on the sound source you’re using. if it’s a sampler, and the sample pitch is controllable via MIDI CC (e.g., FAC Drumkit cc @FredAntonCorvest), then yes, you can control the pitch by setting up a CC modulation lane in polybeat. I’m planning to add pre-mapped/labeled CC lanes along with the preset MIDI mappings in the future to make this easier.
Thanks for the reply.
I did know about the duplicate option, but perhaps for a future update the possibility of dragging a pattern to a different place could be implemented? What I mean is that if I have different patterns (e.g. A,B,C,D,E,F) and I want to have a slightly modified B after G, I do not see a fast way to achieve that. Sure I can duplicate B, but now it is a "C" pattern and not a "G" pattern like I wanted. I think this is an (small) issue when trying to sequence patterns. If I have a 2nd app setup to trigger these patterns (be it atom piano roll or stepbud or any other one) this complicates things a bit, as duplicating B would mess up with how the 2nd app triggers the sequence: I have to change all the notes of the triggering app to accommodate that Bcopy placed after B, instead of just adding a new note at the end with whatever length I want. It can certainly be done, but it adds a number of steps that could be solved by being able to drag patterns to wherever we need them (the other option of course would be being able to paste to whichever pattern we want).
Anyway, it is not a big deal at all; it is just a suggestion. I love the app and it is exactly what I wanted / needed
