Maybe in a few years all the latest 7finger gestures will get in the way of using your iPad to its full potential... worry not, Apple will sell you a home button and you’ll find the perfect reason why that is in your best interest...
I wish Apple made a headphone adapter that supported charging and had the same sound quality as their own DAC. Can you recommend one?
Same as 1 I suppose. Are there any that sound as good as the Apple DAC and are just as small and surprisingly durable (for such a thin thing).
Still using 3.5mm... they are just plugged into extraneous stuff.
The Phone doesn't have many apps I use. Also the Phone is too small for me, especially while I walk. I need to hold it to close to my face which kills periphery and is (more) dangerous. With the iPad I could easily hold it down around waist height with both hands and look like a total dork boppin down the street (ps. I don't care). But yah number 4 is 75% of my bitching. Points 1-3 are backup/support gripes. #appledontcareaboutmyboppindownthestreetlikeatotaldork
FWIW, I know that I am just stating the obvious, but we now live in an age where it has never been easier to create music, art, animation and so much more in the human creative expression space.
The only true limit is our time and focus and dedication to the craft.
We should all be thankful for this.
I know I am...3 albums and an EP in my journey into this space.
Right, nothing I know of.
Only option is this Apple USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter https://store.apple.com/xc/product/MU7E2AM/A
…Which has to be plugged into another dongle (presumably anything with 2 usb-c ports, one of which supports charging)
But I guess two small dongles is not so bad when you are stuck to the wall charging anyway.
The best design possible is something close to this : https://www.amazon.com/Docking-Baseus-Aluminum-Charging-Headphone/dp/B07TWG4F56 that stays tucked behind the iPad. If they built it right you could even get a 3.5mm port at the corner where we like it.
[disclaimer: I have no experience with that hub, I just like the physical form factor and would like to see other options like this where the hub is less dongley]
Damn straight! I’m still gob smacked by what I can do with iOS devices!
I do have this, sounds purdy good.
I did look for this before but didn’t find anything that clearly fit the bill.
I was looking at that one but decided against it as I couldn’t use it with a case and that is a must for walkabouts. Ahh well, hopefully the base iPad keeps the headphone jack a few more years at which time it will have an M1.
I bought the new M1 iPad thinking this very thing. A pro version of GB would be da schnitzel
I just want the current one to multitrack bounce.
PS. Haven’t checked recently, can it multitrack bounce yet?
No small developer likely has incentive to invest in a mobile daw, but desktop daws do. Likely as subscription models, but as entry level versions And companions to their desktop versions.
I think in reality this looks like cubasis but with more features that utilize the new hardware and OS improvements. I also wouldn't be surprised if the next gen IPad Pro (only) take from the new mac books with a headphone jack aimed at pro audio.
Whatever happens the experience for users will improve but it will be incredibly hard on smaller third party developers unless they use the tools to have their plugins work universally on iOS, padOS and MacOS.
I got this one, recommended by @krassmann. I’m recommending it back so you can, in turn recommend to someone else and keep going until we reach world domination.

Sounds good, and it’s smaller than it looks. Very handy.
@tahiche yeah, let’s spread the word. I’m also very happy with this device. I think it’s actually better than the apple dongle as it gives you some control over the digitizer, up to 96kHz/24 bit. Some guys measured it and the frequency response is excellent. I’m actually using it together with a mic/headphone splitter as a single channel audio interface.
I just bought the Apple headphone dongle but I may buy this as well. Thanks
I’m also using both. I use the Apple dongle on the go. One drawback of the Sharkoon device is that with a power cable connected it can apply much more physical force to the iPad USB port. So I’m using this only when seated at a table. It works also well with USB-C PD powerbanks.
That’s a good idea!. What splitter are you using?.
I’d be nice with a male mini-jack (3.5mm) and 6.3 mm female (for guitar)
There are countless TRRS splitters out there. I bought the one from Sharkoon because I thought it would be a good match but there is one weakness. This splitter is designed to adapt to classic headsets with a separate microphone and headphone jack. It is not compatible with TRRS headphones like the apple EarPods. It only works well with pure headphones with TRS stereo jack. But I also don’t know if there are splitters out there that do that different. I tried it with my Uno Synth and the line level signal was totally fine and sounds good.
Nice, much thanks!
