Maybe they should just force users to leave a comment if they press the Dislike button.

Make Disliking something a three step process.

    USE CASE
    User Presses Dislike
Prompt user for feedback on what they didn’t like and how it might be improved.
Wait for User to submit feedback.

    Entry or Cancel
User enters feedback and presses Submit button. (minimum of 64 characters or something).
    Boom.
Validation of the Dislike and useful info for the creator.

    Win win.

This 3 Step Process will discourage ass hats from pressing the Dislike button as a knee jerk reaction and force them to truly consider their intentions.

It’s like an Art Director once told me, “Criticism is great. But you need to make sure it’s constructive criticism which moves the conversation forward. If you are just going to blast something because you don’t like it and don’t have anything to offer or think about…please…please…STFU. We can talk about it offline.”

    🤪

Bahhh…looks like they’re keeping the dislike button but not showing the number of Dislikes on the video to the general public.

I guess some of those horrible influencers who deserve to be held accountable will be safe amongst their non fans now. 😭😭🤔 they’ll just feel the Shame inside where they deserve to feel it. 🤨

“Coordinated Dislike Attacks….jeez…really? Military terms for Dislike behaviorism? WTF?”

This is some Huxleyian new speak sheeeet…wow.

I really think YouTube should spend more time cleaning up their Porn Bot Promoters in their ecosystem and stop worrying about this type of $ house cleaning.

What’s next. No 1 Star reviews on Amazon or the Google Play Store for product Ratings? 😜

  • I dislike this attempt to only coax positive reactions from YouTube viewers.

Well. I don’t think that will happen. I think Trolls will be trolls will be trolls. They just won’t have the Dopamine satisfaction of seeing their trolly work being public with the Number Count of Dislikes on the page. So they’ll have to spend more time perfecting their trolly antics.

Not showing the number of Dislikes on a video is like a Comedian ignoring a drunk heckler in the audience. They’ll only comment on it after their gig…so it will still get under their skin if it’s valid…and yes i am talking about the Paul brothers 🤪

But for normal people who criticize and make suggestions, nothing will change.

I can’t believe I’ve wasted time writing about this stupidity. I need to go and make some music 🥰🥰🥰

  • I used the dislike button as a signal to the recommendation engine. It definitely helped.

  • Now disliking is two steps: clicking Dislike, and commenting “#dislike” for others to like. 😂

Why show either? My son is obsessed with how many likes and whatever a particular video has. If you watch a video and you like it, then press like. If you don’t like it then click dislike. Do I need to know that 158,357 other people also liked this video??

It’s definitely important for content creators to know, though feedback about WHY something isn’t liked would be way more valuable to help people change things to make their content better.

I’m asking too much now though lol. Feel free to smash dislike on this :D

EDIT: Also I suspect comments will still be swamp of crap so I guess you could gauge “dislike” by quantity of negative comments? Anywho..

Exactly. Why would a person want to keep receiving recommendations for content they clearly have no interest in?

ah so it is there you just don't see number of dislikes ... first class world problem :-D

i absolutely don't care about how much dislikes or likes has some video.. if i want express my opinion but i don't give shit about other people's opinion, it's just my message to video creator so i'm completely OK even if they remove number also for like button as soon as they leave both buttons there ... It's for expressing my opinion to video creator, so he knows if i like or dislike his content..

people.. you really don't have more serious troubles in your life than this ? lol .. this is really ridiculous to me :-D

really hate when somebody uses communistic analogy for things like that .. people you have fucking no idea what it was to live on communistic regime .. i'm from country where communists were in charge for like 40 years until we finally kicked them out in '89 (i was like 14yo back then but i was VERY aware what is happening) and all of you who were born and grow in free western countries have no idea how bad it really was ..

hiding number of dislike button ? Fuck me ... let's talk about people not allowed to cross border or being shot at borders when they tried to escape from country .. let's talk about people who were not allowed to study on highscool or get serious job just because somebody from their far related family managed to escape from country or just told somewhere something loudly what was not allowed to be told loudly..

    end of rant.

It's great for how to videos. If I'm looking up how to install a new toilet seat cover and I see a video has vastly more likes than dislikes, I'm probably going to try that one first. If I see the opposite that it's mostly dislikes, then I can take a reasonable guess that the videos author didn't really set out to do what their title said.

Oh man like the thumbnail shows it's how to replace a toilet seat cover but when you watch the video they are showing you how to care for a cactus DANG IT!!!

lol fair point though. I guess like with anything there's good and bad overall

If I don't like what I'm watching I move on and it also annoys me that I'm watching a very well presented video of say a vintage Memorymoog demo which is clearly positive and some dumb fucks have pressed the dislike button but I do think it's a odd choice for Youtube to remove it.

    What are your thoughts.

Good way of checking if a jailbreak video or something technical is kosher

I imagine it will just shift so that the top liked comments will be "This is bunk". I guess this just means people will not be able to tell as easily at a quick glance.

  • One of the characteristics of (neo)communism is stopping people from being vocal about politically incorrect subjects, barring those who are calling a spade a spade, cancelling words and culture. I can see that communism is reborn. It is not so obvious, because it is clad differently, and it’s coming in different shapes and colors. I was raised in communism, so I know- it is like a disease.

When it comes to yt, maybe you're partially right. It may be mostly about money, but I don't think it is only $ that giants such as Google or Facebook are after.

If removing dislike button is a good thing, because we protect sensitive folks, then why don’t we remove comments too?

One of the appealing things about the left during the 1960s and 70s was the freedom of expression. Back then it was the right wingers who were into censorship. Some on the far left are as savage (or worse) than the old right ever were.

Times have changed. Tolerence (on both sides) seems to be a thing of the past.

  • I’m struggling to believe that Google and Facebook have a neo communist agenda. They’re all about ad revenue.

Yes, they lean toward the right

    Yes, toward the right

    Interesting view.

I get the impression they are towards the left. Google's recent YouTube purge of right wing videos comes to mind. I don't think there was any purge of left wing videos (I could be wrong there though).

I'm not a FaceBook person so I can't give any examples there.

And Twitter banned Trump. Probably best not to go into that one - might start another war here on AB Forum

But I agree - they are totally about the money. Economic communism is not their goal.

  • Fuck Alphabet.
    Fuck Google.
    Fuck YouTube.
    Play stupid games,
    Win stupid prizes.

  • Probably a good move, I've always thought it was easily abused and not accurate, but in some cases it's valid. I don't think I ever used the dislike button even if I disliked a video though, I just stopped watching.

I've not been following all cases but the way I've seen it is that the policy is trying to remove incitements of violence and hate speech, it's irrelevant which side of the political spectrum, it's just that this tends to come from the right more.
..and it's also interesting to note that in it's own research Twitter found that it's algorithm favoured right leaning views over left.

    Just an idea...

Give each user 1 like and 1 dislike credit to use per month (like an Audible subscription). You can use your likes/dislikes for a particular video, or to promote/demote a particular channel or creator generally.

That way people will really have to use them wisely. It also makes trolling/bombing a lot harder to do.

My view on the YT's recommendations/AI is that it should be based on what you actually watch, not what you thumbs up/thumbs down.
